2 School Girls Lead Police To Arrest Perverts and Other Stories

Mental evaluation ordered for Augusta woman charged with child sex abuse

Loni D. Ingalls, 36, is charged in a case involving a boy who was 14 at the time of the alleged abuse

BY BETTY ADAMS KENNEBEC JOURNAL

AUGUSTA — A judge on Tuesday ordered a woman who faces child sex abuse charges to undergo a mental examination by the State Forensic Service.

Loni D. IngallsLoni D. Ingalls, 36, of Augusta is charged with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor – all involving the same boy who was 14 at the time – as well as unlawful furnishing and unlawful possession of hydrocodone.

Ingalls, who is being held at the Cumberland County jail in Portland in lieu of $3,000 bail, was at the Capital Judicial Center on Tuesday with her defense attorney Stephen Bourget.

The psychological examination has been ordered by Justice Michaela Murphy apparently in anticipation of a guilty plea in the case. Results of that exam could help determine conditions of probation.

Ingalls’ next hearing is set for May 19 at the same courthouse.

Ingalls was arrested Feb. 22 following a two-week investigation by police who were tipped off by the boy’s mother.

The affidavit by Augusta Police Detective Tori Tracy said the mother showed police messages she had seen on a cellphone she had taken from her son. The boy later told investigators that Ingalls had supplied him with the phone.

The affidavit also says Ingalls used a pseudonym, Vivian Smith, when contacting the boy and when communicating with him via Facebook.

It says the sexual abuse happened in Ingalls’ apartment between Nov. 1, 2015, and Feb. 11, 2016.

The drug charges say she furnished hydrocodone to the same boy and to his older brother June 1, 2015-Oct. 26, 2015, in Augusta and that she possessed Vicodin on June 1, 2015, also in Augusta.

Santa Fe Springs man convicted of child sex abuse
By Sandra Molina, Whittier Daily News

SANTA FE SPRINGS, California >> A Santa Fe Springs man was convicted Monday of sexually molesting a young girl in 2005 at his mother’s daycare center, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Robert Andres Martinez, 34, pleaded no contest to two felony counts of forcible lewd act upon a child and lewd act upon a child, the D.A. said in a written statement.

Martinez is facing 10 years in state prison, and must register as a lifetime sex offender. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 6.

Martinez’s mother operated a daycare center out of her Santa Fe Springs home, where the children took afternoon naps in the living room, the statement said.

During this time Martinez lured one of the children, a 5-year-old girl, into his bedroom and sexually abused her, Deputy D.A. Brianna Peden said.

For 10 years, the victim kept silent about the abuse, Peden added.

Now in high school, she recently told her mother, who then contacted police about the molestation

Martinez was charged on Jan. 5, 2016.

The case was investigated by the Whittier Police Department.

Girl's tip leads to man's arrest for child sex abuse photos, police say
Nate Hanson , KGW

KEIZER, Oregon – Police said they arrested a man in possession of child sex abuse pictures after they were tipped off of the man’s suspicious behavior by a 13-year-old girl walking to school.

At about 7:50 a.m. Monday, the girl was walking to Claggett Creek Middle School when she saw a man who she believed was following her in a car and taking photos or video of her with his cellphone, according to Deputy Chief Jeffrey Kuhns of Keizer police. The girl gave school staff a description of the man’s car (pictured) and his license plate number and a staff member reported the incident to police.

At about the same time on Tuesday, an officer patrolling around the middle school saw a man, later identified as 22-year-old Trevor Highsmith, in a car that matched the girl’s description. The license plate number had a one-character difference from the number the girl reported the day before, Kuhns said.

The officer followed Highsmith from the area of the middle school to a home in the 3700 block of Pleasant View Drive Northeast, about a half-mile away. After a backup officer arrived, the officers knocked on the door and Highsmith agreed to talk with officers outside the home.

While talking with officers, Highsmith gave written consent for police to search his phone and agreed to be interviewed at the police station.

Investigators found dozens of images of child sexual abuse on Highsmith’s phone for which he was charged on 10 counts of encouraging child sexual abuse, Kuhns said. Investigators also found images of girls who appeared to be walking to or from school on Highsmith’s phone. While those pictures aren’t criminal, investigators are working on identifying the girls.

Highsmith was booked in the Marion County Jail. Anyone with information related to the case should call Officer David Zavala at 503-390-3713, extension 3512.
