DISGRACED Melbourne actor Jeremy Kewley has been jailed for almost two years over multiple child sex offences against children as young as nine.

The 55-year-old was sentenced in the Victorian County Court on Tuesday to 23 months imprisonment and given a three-year community corrections order.

The former McLeod’s Daughters and Neighbours actor had pleaded guilty to 19 charges, including indecent acts with a child under 16, indecent assaults and making and possessing child pornography.

Most of his 16 victims were assaulted in 2011 at Kewley’s Brighton home, after they arrived for what they believed was a screen test for a low-budget film about a father who kills his sons.

“The film was called Malevolence, ironically,” Judge Duncan Allen said on Tuesday.

Kewley asked the boys’ parents to wait downstairs and got the boys to change into Lycra costumes.

He then touched his victims inappropriately over their costumes while pretending to wrestle and strangle them in front of a camera he had set up.

Kewley also kissed the boys as they lay in various positions, and left his camera rolling as they changed in and out of their costumes.

“These are shocking breaches of trust,” Judge Allen said.

“Several of these mothers ... carry the knowledge they were innocently involved in your offending.

“It is a shocking burden for them to carry, and they shouldn’t have to carry it.”

Kewley’s abuses took place between 1989 and 2011 and involved boys aged between nine and 14.

Judge Allen described Kewley’s offending as “abhorrent, disgusting and repulsive”.

He said Kewley’s actions had left his child victims psychologically traumatised.

“Many of your victims also had ambitions to act — their ambitions were dashed as a result of your horrible conduct,” the judge said.

“Children are vulnerable and dependent upon adults. They are particularly dependent upon the adults into whose trust they have been placed.”

So, Jeremy, was it worth it?
