Anthony Harris, 60, of Northfork,, an educator for decades in middle schools across McDowell County, is charged with 17 counts of second-degree sexual abuse, six counts of second-degree sexual assault and 17 counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian.

WELCH — The case against a former McDowell County teacher charged with 40 counts of child sexual abuse related crimes has been bound over to the grand jury.

Anthony Harris, 60, of Northfork, a long-time educator in middle schools across McDowell County, was arrested Jan. 24 on 17 counts of second-degree sexual abuse, six counts of second-degree sexual assault and 17 counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian, Trooper M.D. Brooks, with the Welch Department of the West Virginian State Police, said.

During a preliminary hearing Tuesday, probable cause was found and the case will now be presented to the McDowell County Grand Jury, Brooks said. During the hearing a motion was made to release Harris on a personal recognizance bond, however this was denied.

Brooks said Harris was remanded back to the regional jail on the same $200,000, cash-only bond that was set during his arraignment.

The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred in 1985 and 2006 with two victims ages 12 to 15 during the time of the abuse. Brooks said the incidents occurred on school grounds.

During his career, Harris taught at Bartley Elementary, War annex, Switchback Elementary and, most recently, at Mount View Middle School, Brooks said. He may also have taught at other schools.

Harris has retired from teaching, but he was working as a substitute in the McDowell County school system. We had him removed from teaching,” Brooks said. “The McDowell County Board of Education is cooperating fully with my investigation.”

Brooks believes there may be more victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone who has been a victim of abuse is asked to call Brooks at the West Virginia State Police Welch detachment at 304-436-2101.

Sodomizer gets sweet plea deal

FLORENCE, AL — Reports indicate a Florence man accused of sexually molesting a young girl has pleaded guilty before the start of his trial.

Courthouse officials said Lorenzo Dawayne Reeder, 38, 2250 Hough Road, Florence, has pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual abuse of a child.

Reeder was arrested in September 2015 and indicted in January 2016 on charges of first-degree sodomy, second-degree sodomy, first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree sexual abuse.

And they accepted a plea deal for 2 counts of 2nd degree abuse? That is a deal!

Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said as a part of the agreement, the other charges were dismissed.

Connolly pointed out that as part of the plea agreement, it was stipulated that Reeder sexually abused the child “twice” within a year. Connolly said that makes the charge a felony.

He said Reeder will also be a registered sex offender for life.

Connolly said the case was set to be tried by Lauderdale County Circuit Judge Ben Graves beginning Monday.

Graves set Reeder’s sentencing hearing for May 1.

Ex-NYC Tutor Gets Probation In Child Sex Abuse Case
By Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — A Brooklyn man has been sentenced in a child sex abuse case.

The New York Daily News (http://nydn.us/2jEcHOW ) reports that 31-year-old Moshe Friedman was sentenced to three years’ probation in court Wednesday. The ex-tutor previously pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child. Friedman admitted to abusing a six-year-old boy when he was supposed to be tutoring him several times between 2014 and 2015.

The former educator was originally charged with first-degree felony sexual conduct against a child. Friedman’s plea agreement also calls for the surrender of his teaching license along with other stipulations. He will not have to register as a sex offender.

Wow! And I thought Reeder got a sweet deal! He got fleeced compared to this! Good grief!

Pinellas child sex abuse suspect extradited from Mexico
10News Staff , WTSP

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. -- A man who fled to Mexico when he was accused of sexually battering a 5-year-old girl in 2015 is behind bars after he surrendered to FBI agents in Mexico City and extradited to Pinellas County on Wednesday.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said that Domingo Maye, 42, reportedly confessed to the allegations that he had sex with the victim at a private residence within the county in November 2015.

Detectives from PSCO's Crimes Against Children Unit began their investigation into the crime after the victim was taken to the hospital "with injuries consistent with a sexual battery." She told her mother that Maye, who was known to her, was responsible.

Before PSCO detectives were able to locate Maye, they found that he had left Florida and returned to his hometown.

The FBI office in Tampa was brought into the case and found Maye in Mexico. PSCO detectives were then successful in convincing Maye to surrender to agents.

Maye was brought back to Florida and interviewed at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Administration Building where he admitted to his crime. He faces two felony counts of capital sexual battery on a child under the age of 12.

Man Charged With Child Sex Abuse
I think

A Lillington area man now faces seven charges in a child sex abuse case dating back nearly seven years.

Harnett County Sheriff’s Maj. Jeff Huber said Bryan Robert Cummins, 33, of Lillington is charged with all other sex offenses and nonassaultive child abuse in the case involving two victims. Both victims were younger than the age of 15 at the time.

I have no idea what that means. In this very brief article I fixed several spelling mistakes including the accused's name being spelled two different ways. The page is labelled the Daily Record, whether that is the Lillington Daily Record or not is anybody's guess. Reporting this bad is very distracting from the real story.

Maj. Huber said the abuse occurred in separate incidents from 2010 to 2016. It was reported to the sheriff’s office after an anonymous report was provided to the Harnett County Department of Social Services.

His bond was set at $15,000.

Severna Park High band volunteer charged
with child sex abuse

Wilbur Jesse Hildebrand, a former volunteer with the Severna Park High School marching band, was charged Thursday with the sexual abuse of a former student
E.B. Furgurson III  Contact Reporter

Wilbur Jesse Hildebrand, 56, of Solomons Ridge Court in Millersville, was arrested at home without incident and charged with sex abuse of a minor, perverted practice, fourth-degree sexual offense and second-degree assault, court documents show.

Police said that in October, a former Severna Park High student came forward after her mother found social media messages between the victim and Hildebrand, some of which were sexual in nature, on an iPad.

During an interview with police the young woman, now 18, told police she had engaged in a sexual relationship with Hildebrand while she was a student at the school.

The victim told police the relationship occurred over her junior and senior years and included fondling and oral sex, according to charging documents obtained from the county prosecutor's office..

The court documents said Hildebrand had been a band volunteer for over 10 years and directed the jazz band. Hildebrand would sometimes hold meetings and practices at his home.

Court documents allege the sexual contact occurred at the victim's home after Hildebrand gave her a ride home, or at her home when her parents weren't there, or even in Hildebrand's car.

Police executed a search warrant Oct. 24 at Hildebrand's home and seized several electronic devices. Police recovered evidence of nude images Hildebrand had asked the victim to send him from one of those devices, police said.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mossier said Hildebrand was always a volunteer and never an employee of the school system. He passed two background checks, valid for two years each, in the last four school years.

Hildebrand has not been involved in any activity at the school since the end of last school year, Mossier added. When the school system learned of the allegations in October, they sent Hildebrand a letter ordering him to stay away from school property.

Police are seeking the community's assistance to identify any other possible victims of abuse that might have happened while participating in the Severna Park High marching band. Police urge anyone with information on Hildebrand to contact Detective Eric Paterson at 410-222-4716. Citizens can do that anonymously by calling the county police tip line at 410-222-4700 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP or online at www.metrocrimestoppers.org.

Babysitter sentenced to Life in prison for
sexual abuse of 2 children

A 55-year-old man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for sexually molesting two young children.

Louis Henry West was convicted of two counts of indecency with a child, a first degree felony.

West, a close friend to both families, would watch the children, then ages 7 and 10 years old, during the day as their parents worked.

During the course of the investigation, the second child came forward and told investigators of sexual abuse by West.
