Registered sex offender given young girl to care for????!!!
by TTWN Media Networks, LLC
(Portland, OR) -- A Portland man is facing nearly 34-years behind bars for sexually abusing a girl placed in his care by the state.
That sentence was handed down yesterday for 41-year-old Matthew Zamora, who was found guilty last year on several counts, including sexual abuse.
Zamora, who is a registered sex offender, has a history of sex crimes dating back to 1997. In this latest case, the state put the victim into foster care in 2015. She was then placed into Zamora's care in 2018, according to prosecutors.
Shortly after the placement, police received information that Zamora was likely abusing the girl.
OK, so, Zamora is a registered sex offender for more than 20 years, and some idiot places a young girl in his care!!!! How insane is that? Someone needs to be charged or severely sued for this craziness.
Bail set at $25K for Maine inmate whose child sexual assault convictions were overturned by high court

A Superior Court judge on Monday set bail at $25,000 cash for the Carmel man whose convictions on child sexual assault charges were overturned last month (6th story on link) by the state’s highest court, according to the Penobscot County district attorney’s office.
Richard Joseph Watson, 35, was convicted in July 2015 of two counts of gross sexual assault and one count of unlawful sexual contact, all Class A crimes, and one count of visual sexual aggression against a child, a Class C crime. He was serving a 27-year sentence at the Maine State Prison when on April 21 the Maine Supreme Judicial Court unanimously ruled that Watson was entitled to a new trial because of mistakes his lawyer made.
Watson made his first court appearance since that decision was issued on Monday before Justice Ann Murray at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor. She set bail at $25,000 cash with conditions that he have no contact with the victim and abide by a curfew if released, according to R. Christopher Almy, assistant district attorney for Penobscot County.
Watson remained Tuesday at the jail unable to post bail.
Murray also appointed David Bate of Bangor to represent Watson at a new trial. Bate did not immediately return a request for comment on Tuesday.
The judge has not yet set a trial date. No trials are being held in May or June due to the coronavirus outbreak. It could be a year or more before the case is retried.
Prior to his trial, Watson was free on bail without incident. Almy, who prosecuted Watson in 2015, sought the high bail Monday, in part, because on Nov. 27, 2018, two months before his conviction review hearing, Watson called the victim from prison.
The prosecutor gave the judge a transcript of that call in which Watson allegedly confessed to the crimes.
Watson is accused of giving a 10-year-old female relative a cellphone in exchange for sex, watching pornographic videos with her and showing her how to use sex toys. She testified against him in 2015 when she was 10.
In the 2018 phone call, the girl, who is not being identified because she is a minor and the victim of a sex crime, said that she was dealing with substance use issues because of Watson’s abuse, according to the transcript. She also told him that he should not have gone to trial and forced her to testify.
Watson said that he had to go to trial because the prosecutor’s offer, if he’d pleaded guilty, was a sentence of 20 years, according to the transcript. He also told her that he was pursuing the conviction review so that he could get out of prison earlier “within a reasonable amount of time before my life is completely over.”
If he had lost the appeal, Watson was due to be released in 2043, the year he turns 60.
The state’s high court found that Watson’s original trial attorney, Robert Van Horn of Ellsworth, prejudiced jurors by playing the victim’s entire video-taped interview with police at the end of Watson’s jury trial. The girl testified before the video was played but was not recalled to the stand afterwards for cross examination.
“The decision to provide the jury with two opportunities to hear the victim describe the alleged abuse — in a manner so consistent that even trial counsel testified at the [post-conviction] hearing that it was ‘the same’ — unnecessarily bolstered her credibility,” Justice Joseph Jabar wrote for the state’s high court.
Some lawyers do things that make no sense just to appear to be doing something. I know that by experience.

SAN ANGELO — A San Angelo man has been arrested after Child Protective Services received a report of child sexual abuse involving marijuana, according to an arrest affidavit.
On April 16, 2020, Child Protective Services Intake passed a report of sexual abuse of a 15-year-old child to police. The child told officers a man gave her marijuana and sexually assaulted her on at least two occasions, according to the affidavit.
On April 24, officers met with the man, who told officers he gave the child marijuana and sexually assaulted her between September-October 2019, according to the affidavit.
Police arrested Alejandro Elieder Valdez-Mendoza, 29, on suspicion of two counts of sexual assault of a child and one warrant. He remained in Tom Green County Jail in lieu of a $125,000 bond as of noon Tuesday, according to online jail records.
I don't understand... he confessed, so why is there suspicion? Does that make sense to you?

New child sex abuse charges filed against Millville, Ut, creep already convicted of molesting young girl

Cache Valley Daily
LOGAN — A 19-year-old Millville man waiting to be sentenced for molesting a 7-year-old girl is facing more charges. Joshua A. Powell has been arraigned on new allegations that he sexually abused the same girl 10-30 times during the past year.
Powell made his initial appearance in 1st District Court Thursday afternoon, appearing by video from the Cache County Jail. He was charged with 10 counts of sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.
In April, Powell admitted to molesting the 7-year-old girl while at her home during a February party. He walked into the victim’s bedroom while she was in bed, and asked to give her a hug. He then began inappropriately touching her, while kissing and licking her face.
As part of the plea agreement, Powell pleaded guilty to one count of sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony. Prosecutors dropped two remaining charges, and agreed to recommend the court sentence the defendant to jail and probation instead of prison. He was scheduled to be sentenced May 19.
According to Cache County Sheriff’s deputies, in April, the victim told her mother about more allegation of sexual abuse by Powell. She claimed how he had inappropriately touched her and licked her multiple times between Apr. 2019 and Jan. 2020.
Deputies questioned Powell in jail about the new allegations. During the course of the interview, he said he had known the victim for the last two years but didn’t start molesting her until the past year. He stated that he would inappropriately touch her 85 percent of the time that he would hug her. He admitted to seeing her 3-4 times a week and would usually hug her every time he saw her.
During Thursday’s arraignment, Judge Brian Cannell read to Powell the new charges and penalties against him. He also ordered the defendant to appear again in court May 5.
Powell remains in jail. He could face up to 15 years in prison from the new charges.
Hendersonville, NC, man sentenced to 17 years
for child sexual abuse imagery
Elizabeth Anne Brown, Asheville Citizen Times
CHARLOTTE - A Hendersonville man will serve 17.5 years in prison after a conviction in federal court on child pornography charges, according to a release from the Department of Justice.
Law enforcement learned that Brian Scott Harden, 39, was distributing child sexual abuse imagery via Skype in June 2018. A search of his residence revealed more than 600 images of the abuse, the DOJ release said.
The imagery included images of children under 12, the DOJ said. Some of the material showed "violent, sadistic or masochistic sexual abuse of children."
Court documents state Harden admitted to sending and receiving child pornography online for at least two years, the release said, and that Harden admitted he "frequently" visited websites and chat rooms online to locate and download child sexual abuse imagery, as well as to trade images with others.
Harden pleaded guilty to distribution and attempted distribution of child pornography in September 2019. He will serve the full 210 months, or 17.5 years, as federal sentences are served without the possibility of parole.
Harden will also serve a lifetime of supervised release and must register as a sex offender after his sentence is served.
