One of Britain's most prolific paedophiles is jailed for 25 years
amid warning encryption poses 'threat to child protection'

David Wilson, pictured, has been described as one of Britain's most prolific abusers after he admitted 96 sex abuse offences against 52 boys
One of Britain's most prolific paedophiles, who posed as teenage girls on social media to get dozens of young boys to send explicit images of themselves and other children, has been jailed for 25 years.
Former youth football team coach David Wilson, 36, tricked victims aged between four and 14 to send him explicit selfies before blackmailing them into making more extreme videos.
He is thought to have approached more than 5,000 children globally before being arrested by investigators, who had been sent information by Facebook.
Today police chiefs warned the social media giant's plan to introduce end-to-end encryption - a system where only the communicating users can read the messages - could hinder similar investigations in the future.
Appearing at Ipswich Crown Court, Wilson of King's Lynn, Norfolk, was today jailed for 25 years after admitting 96 child sex abuse offences against 52 victims.
The court heard Wilson used unregistered phones to approach his victims through social media sites, including Facebook and Instagram.
Pretending to be young girls, Wilson built up trust with his victims before blackmailing them into sending him explicit images.
In some cases, Wilson blackmailed his victims into abusing younger siblings or friends. Some boys were left suicidal by the abuse. (See link below).
The National Crime Agency, which had investigated Wilson for two years, described him as one of the most prolific child sexual abuse offenders they had come across.
In sentencing, Judge Rupert Overbury described Wilson as a 'serial paedophile' and an 'extremely dangerous individual'.
He told him: 'You carried out a lengthy and premeditated campaign of sadistic and manipulative abuse of young boys using social media.
And it took how many years for FB to notice him? With new encryption plans, they will never find such sick people leaving the potential victims limitless. Social media platforms must be held much more accountable.
There is much more on this story in the Daily Mail, including the suicidal thoughts of one survivor.
Third attempt to keep South Australia paedophile in prison
after another breach of release conditions
By court reporter Meagan Dillon
Posted Yesterday at 6:18pm
The South Australian Attorney-General will make a third application to the Supreme Court to keep a serial paedophile locked up indefinitely after he again breached the conditions of his release.
Gary John Tipping, 35, was released last year after the court rejected the Attorney-General's second bid to have him detained indefinitely. He was released last year before being rearrested.
The nature of the new breach was not aired in court.
Supreme Court Justice Sophie David today ordered Tipping remain in custody on an interim detention order until at least March 3.
Supreme Court
The Supreme Court has twice rejected applications to keep Tipping in prison indefinitely.
In 2019, the court was told that Tipping was unable to control his sexual urges and would be at significant risk of reoffending if released.
He had been convicted of sexual offences against boys aged between eight and 15. The court heard, at the time, that some of the offending happened shortly after he was released on a court bond and later on parole.
Forensic psychiatrists had told the court they believed Tipping remained at high risk of reoffending, had poor insight into his crimes and had not engaged well in treatment.
Legislation aimed at blocking the release of paedophiles who are unwilling or unable to control their sexual instincts passed South Australia's Parliament in 2018.
SA Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said she supported the Parole Board's decision to keep Tipping in custody. "I have previously applied for Mr Tipping's indefinite detention, but the application was rejected by the Supreme Court," Ms Chapman said.
"I later applied for the continued detention of Mr Tipping, following a previous breach of his Extended Supervision Order, but it too was rejected.
"I therefore support the Parole Board's application for a continued detention order. "No further comment will be made at this stage."
Auckland teacher sentenced for child sex abuse and grooming

NZ Herald, By: Miriam Harris
A South Auckland school teacher who groomed children using the dating app Grindr before sexually abusing them will spend six-and-a-half years behind bars.
Edwin John Downing, 43, was today sentenced at the High Court in Auckland after being found guilty of 11 charges following a two-week trial last November.
The charges included sexual conduct with a young person under 16, meeting a young person following sexual grooming and sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.
The High Court heard how the father-of-one approached two teenagers on Grindr and offered between $40 and $100 for sex in 2018.
On one occasion he met and drove a 15-year-old boy to a road in Drury and sexually assaulted him.
Downing also met with a 13-year-old person four times for sex over a period of nine months, offering cash at a time when the victim's family was in hardship.
'Friend' of the family?
The transactional nature contributed to the victim's vulnerability, Justice Neil Campbell told the courtroom this morning. Neither of the victims were students of Downing.
In one victim impact statement, the survivor said they were "easily overwhelmed and startled by most mundane interaction involving physical contact" after the offending.
Another said they now have a lack of trust in men.
Downing's lawyer, Peter Kaye, said this was a situation "where a married man had clear homosexual tendencies. He went on Grindr, which clearly has one purpose."
Kaye says Downing's victims lied about their ages on Grindr.
And Grindr seems to be entirely OK with that!
Justice Campbell said it was clear Downing has not accepted his offending and the harm caused on victims after continually denying he had sex with anyone underage.

Frédéric Mion quits French university job over handling of the Olivier Duhamel affair

Sciences Po’s (Political Science) director has resigned over his handling of an incest scandal involving professor and political commentator Olivier Duhamel that has shaken French academia and triggered other public accusations against prominent intellectuals.
In an open letter to the teachers and students of France’s most renowned political sciences university, Frédéric Mion said a preliminary report by education inspectors cited “errors of judgment” on his part in the way he dealt with allegations brought to his attention in 2018 and “inconsistencies” in his public statements of recent weeks. The report has exonerated Sciences Po of any complicity.
“I have decided to present my resignation to the members of our boards and the minister of higher education,” he wrote. “I hope that this will allow the return of the calm so necessary for everyone’s work.”
The resignation comes as students of other political sciences schools that are part of the Sciences Po network across France have alleged they have been victims of sexual assaults, and that staff did little to address their complaints. Sciences Po said on Twitter it “fully supports victims of sexist and sexual violence”.
In his letter, Mion said the preliminary inquiry had found that “Sciences Po, under my direction, has resolutely engaged in the struggle against all forms of sexist or sexual violence”.
Duhamel, a prominent constitutional law professor, is being investigated by the state prosecutor although his alleged crimes in the 1980s appear to fall under the statute of limitations in force at the time. He has been accused by his stepdaughter Camille Kouchner of sexually abusing her twin brother when he was 13 or 14.
When Kouchner’s book detailing the allegations (8th story on link) was published at the start of the year, Duhamel resigned as president of the National Foundation of Political Science, which oversees the running of Sciences Po, and from other positions including his presidency of the elite dining club Le Siècle. He did not comment further than citing the fact that he was the target of “personal attacks.”

Mion said then he was “stunned” by the allegations, acknowledging he should have taken what he took to be “a rumour circulating about Olivier Duhamel” more seriously. “I let myself be fooled,” he told Le Monde.
Kouchner’s book, and the various allegations aired since by other victims of incest and sexual abuse, are the latest sign of a shift in French opinion away from what is now viewed as excessive permissiveness in the decades following the 1968 uprising.
In recent weeks, thousands of people have taken to social media, using the hashtag #metooinceste on Twitter, to denounce alleged abusers. The attention paid to incest since Kouchner went public follows similar campaigns against figures from the world of the arts and sports for alleged sexual abuse of teenage girls.
Among those targeted are Jean-Luc Brunel, a former French model agency boss and associate of the late sex offender and financier Jeffrey Epstein, who is being investigated for “rape of a minor over 15 and sexual harassment”, and Gabriel Matzneff (2nd story on link), now 84, the French author who wrote books about his sexual relations with adolescents and children.
Former Terenure College teacher abused boys in office, class, during sport and before plays
Updated / Wednesday, 10 Feb 2021 20:16
By Paul Reynolds, Crime Correspondent, RTÉ
A man who said his life was ruined by the abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of his teacher at school in Dublin 40 years ago, has described him as an "evil" man who "preyed" on him and other children for decades.
John McClean of Casimir Avenue, Harold's Cross has admitted to sexually abusing 23 boys in the 1970s and 1980s at Terenure College.
The 76-year-old is a former rugby coach and English teacher at Terenure College.
One victim said today that the school was "run by priests who failed utterly in their responsibility" to the care of the children there.
Fifteen of John McClean's victims stories of how he sexually abused them between 30 and 48 years ago were told in court today.
The 76-year-old former rugby coach and English teacher has pleaded guilty to 27 charges of indecently assaulting the boys at the school on dates between 1973 and 1990.
He abused nine victims in an office, eight during preparation for the school plays, three during sporting activities and three in the classroom.
The details of what McClean did to six of the boys has so far been outlined in court, they were 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 years of age at the time.
In their victim impact statements the boys, now men in their 50s, spoke of how the abuse damaged their lives.
One told how he left school after the abuse, fell into alcohol and drug abuse, went on to crime and begging on the streets of London before being sent to prison.
He described John McClean as "evil personified" and said when he met him he "crossed paths with the devil".
Another said when he told his brother about the abuse later in life, he found out that he too had been abused while one boy engineered his own expulsion to get away from the constant abuse.
"I will never forgive or forget what he did," he said. "He ruined my life when he was supposed to be protecting me."
When interviewed by gardaí, McClean denied the abuse saying the names of his victims meant nothing to him, he did not remember them.
One told how he was enticed to the office by McClean with bars of chocolate.
Another victim said McClean was "an evil man who should be punished for what he had done".
The victims were also highly critical of the authorities at Terenure College and said their allegations were ignored. It was run by priests, one victim said, whose duty was to care and protect and they failed utterly in their responsibilities. "All those p****s in charge knew and looked away," another victim said.
One man said he made his statement to the gardaí more than 30 years after the abuse after an article about Terenure College appeared in the newspaper.
He said his father phoned him up and told him to read it. "I think they got him," his father said to him.

Nine children rescued and female 'pimp' arrested in Philippines shanty town after police 'found Australian paedophile's rape videos'
By DANIEL PIOTROWSKI FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA
PUBLISHED: 10 February 2021 20:13 EST
Nine children have been rescued in the Philippines following the arrest of an accused paedophile in Australia.
The lives of the kids, aged between two and 16 years, changed forever when the man from small town regional Victoria, 61, was stopped at the Australian border in November 2019.
Authorities suspected the Victorian man of child sex crimes and allegedly found sexual conversations on his phone where he asked about girls' ages.
That sparked a Federal Police raid on his home near the Victorian-New South Wales border. There, officers found videos of the man allegedly raping underage Filipino girls. The Victorian was charged and his case is before the courts.
And this week - some fourteen months since his arrest - authorities reported a major breakthrough overseas.
Filipino authorities walk a child out of the Angeles city home where abuse allegedly took place in her pyjamas and a face shield
Footage shared by the Australian Federal Police shows a grown woman carrying a small child out of the home down a dirt road, washing apparently hung up on the right
Philippines National Police arrested a 42-year-old woman who had allegedly pimped the children out in the city of Angeles.
Philippine police official Brigadier General Alessandro Abella said the investigation was sparked by a tip off from Australian police. 'It highlights the cooperation and commitment we share in protecting children and arresting and prosecuting offenders in the Philippines and abroad,' Mr Abella said.
AFP Detective Superintendent Jayne Crossling said what Federal officers did in pursuing cases such as this was 'heart-breaking work'. 'Whether children are in Australia or overseas, our teams never give up because they know that every day we can't identify a child is another day they are being abused.'
Officials from Australia and the UK set up a 'centre for excellence' in fighting the scourge of child abuse in the Philippines in February 2019.
In 2017 alone, a United States-based organisation dedicated to stopping child exploitation received 45,645 online tips about possible crimes in the Philippines.
Of course, Canada has done nothing in this regard while there can be no doubt that there are Canadian child sex tourists in the Philippines and many more live-streaming it. Trudeau has done absolutely nothing about child sexual abuse in his 5.5 years in office.
Thai Police Seize Largest Ever Cache of Child Sex Abuse Photographs
Bangkok
Nontarat Phaicharoen
Thai police on Thursday said they arrested a 28-year-old Thai man and seized more than half a million photographs of child sex abuse – the largest ever cache – as part of an investigation into an international child-porn ring.
Police charged the suspect, Danudej Saengkaew, who claimed to work as a child model agent, with multiple sexual offenses against minors, said Korawat Panprapakorn, director general, Department of Special Investigation.
“It can be assumed that the archive of more than 500,000 obscene pictures of children are the biggest ever found – they showed sexual harassment of thousands of children,” a police press release said.
DSI officials said Danudej faces charges of uploading obscene materials, attempted rape of a minor/rape of a minor, child molestation, and abduction of a minor. Of these charges, attempted rape of a minor/rape of a minor carries a sentence of life in prison.
Danudei was arrested following a raid at his Nene Modeling home office in Pathum Thani, north of Bangkok, police said, adding Australian Federal Police (AFP) tipped off their Thai counterparts about the suspect’s location.
AFP previously gave Thai police information about an alleged associate of the suspect, Tagorn Attapathomchai, who was arrested in Bangkok last year.
Korawat said the suspect arrested on Thursday had been involved in the illicit business for about eight years.
Danudei initially denied any wrongdoing but officials confiscated evidence on his computers and other equipment, Korawat said.
“He said he just took photos of children for his modelling business, to make them famous. …We will take this evidence for analysis,” Korawat told reporters, adding that there may be other associates who worked with the suspect.
The arrests of Daundei and Tagorn were a result of cooperation among AFP, New Zealand Police and two U.S. agencies, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the police statement said.
International and Thai NGOs including the California-based Operation Underground Railroad, A21 Foundation, Lift International, Alliance Anti Traffic, and the Legal Center for Human Rights will assist victims with rehabilitation, police said. These agencies could help the victims in filing possible lawsuits against Danudei and Tagorn.
‘Tip of an iceberg’
A Thai children’s advocacy group expressed concern about the sexual violations against children, alleging society is ignorant about such exploitation.
All societies are ignorant of such exploitation!
“Thailand sees frequent sexual abuses and sexual exploitation of children, but society is not aware of that,” Macha Porn-in, director of Yawachon Development Project, told BenarNews.
“Today’s news is just the tip of an iceberg. There are more out there.”
Macha said the nation needs to do better job at sex education. “Thailand needs to have sex education that meets international standards so people are aware of the matter. People must learn to respect children’s bodies. Children’s bodies must not be touched,” Macha said.
Since 2018, cooperation among DSI, Interpol, AFP and HSI has led to arrests of at least three Thai operators of separate child sex abuse websites that had a total subscriber base of more than 65,000 worldwide, a DSI report said.
All three were convicted and sentenced to prison terms of between 36 and 50 years, the report said.
Whoa! Well done!
In 2015, Thailand’s National Legislative Assembly amended the criminal code to make the possession, distribution and production of child pornography a crime.
“This amendment to the Criminal Code is a recognition that children and youth need to be protected from exploitation, including on the internet where images are traded and distributed far too easily,” said Jeremy Douglas, regional representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific at the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, in a statement at the time.
UNODC had assisted Thailand in amending its criminal code.
Teen charged with badgering women to sexually abuse their children
by Ciaran Shanks
February 11, 2021, 11:30 am
A teenager allegedly urged a young woman to sexually abuse a child during a string of indecent messages.
Logan Summers, 18, is accused of distributing indecent images of children, as well as sending sexual messages to six different females, one of whom was under the age of 13.
He allegedly used Snapchat to commit the offences at various addresses in Dundee.
The teen denies all nine of the charges he faces on indictment.
It is alleged that on February 10 2019, Summers sent a woman images and messages in relation to child abuse.
Four days later, a second woman was allegedly told by Summers to sexually abuse a child.
Prosecutors allege Summers repeatedly caused a third woman to suffer fear and alarm by making phone calls that contained sexual violence.
Between February 1 and February 28 2019, Summers, of Balerno Place, Douglas, allegedly sent a sexual image to a fourth woman.
A fifth woman was allegedly sent a message by Summers on February 28 2019 in which he said he had sexually abused a child.
Summers is also accused of sending an indecent image to a child under the age of 13 on June 9, 2019.
Dundee Sheriff Court documents allege that between February 10 and February 28 2019, Summers distributed indecent images of children.
He allegedly breached bail conditions on July 4 2019 by contacting a woman and on May 4 last year by being in possession of a mobile phone.
The boy is completely out of control. I'm glad I don't have his future to look forward to.
