Spanish police arrest bogus Interpol agent who conned & blackmailed women into sending him intimate pics
16 Feb, 2021 14:18
The 33-year-old was arrested in the coastal Spanish region of Alicante, local media reported on Sunday. He was busted after a sting operation, during which the police placed a surveillance device at a site where the man was supposed to meet his latest victim.
The Spaniard used a multistage con to get leverage against his female marks, according to the police. First, he collected photos and personal data that the women left on various dating websites and used those to fabricate their profiles on an adult site. The women were made to look like prostitutes – an occupation that is not illegal in Spain, but exists in a legal gray area and carries social stigma.
He would then contact them and pose as an Interpol agent investigating prostitution. He promised to help remove the fake profiles and protect women from foreign organized crime gangs, who supposedly took an interest in the ‘sex workers’, to coerce them into meeting him in person.
The encounters happened at a secluded wooded area, the police said. There the suspect pressured his victims into allowing him to take naked pictures of them, supposedly to document scars and other distinctive features of their bodies to confirm that their images were used in the prostitution profiles. Later, he threatened to send those photos to family and workmates unless more intimate images were sent to him.
The police noticed a pattern of similar complaints filed by victims of the con artist, but they couldn’t pinpoint the perpetrator until one woman became suspicious of his fake Interpol credentials and turned to Spanish law enforcement.
The sting operation gave the police probable cause to arrest the man and search his home. There they found almost 1,200 photos and videos of more than 700 women, some of them of a sexual nature, as well as other evidence of his alleged crimes.
The police are in the process of identifying and contacting the presumed victims of the suspect, who now faces a slate of charges, including violation of privacy, blackmail, and impersonating an officer of the law.
Australian PM pledges major investigation in apology over woman’s parliament rape claim
16 Feb, 2021 09:29
Australia’s prime minister has pledged to investigate workplace culture and conduct within the country’s parliament after a woman claimed she was raped in the office of then-Defense Industry Minister Linda Reynolds in 2019.
Staffer Brittany Higgins alleged that, after a night of drinking, the unidentified man, who worked for Reynolds, took her to the minister’s office in Parliament House, where she claims he raped her.
The woman told staff who worked for Reynolds about the alleged attack, and she was asked to attend a meeting in the office where she was assaulted to discuss the incident.
While Higgins spoke to police in April 2019, she didn’t press charges, as she was concerned about the impact that would have on her career. Reynolds denied any accusation that the woman was pressured to not make a formal complaint to authorities.
Addressing the initial reports about the incident, the prime minister’s Office released a statement calling the claims “deeply distressing” and arguing that “throughout the entire process the overriding concern for government was to support Ms Higgins’ welfare.”
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison apologized to Higgins on Tuesday, declaring that it “should not have happened,” and pledging to hold an investigation “to make sure any young woman working in [Parliament House] is as safe as possible."
Reynolds joined Morrison in issuing an apology, telling the country’s parliament that “saying sorry is often the hardest thing for those of us who work in this place to say, but can I say today, sorry is the easiest word for me to say.”
Cabinet official Stephanie Foster has been appointed to conduct the investigation into how complaints made within Parliament House are handled, and a lawmaker will be picked to look into the issue of workplace culture within the building.
And the rapist? What happened to the rapist? Is he still working for Linda?
Modelling agency linked to child exploitation after Australian police tip-off
A tip-off from Australian police has led to the arrest of an alleged child sex offender in Thailand accused of using a modelling agency as a front.

A tip-off from South Australian police has led to an alleged child sex offender being arrested in Thailand after the children’s modelling agency he owns was linked to a global child exploitation ring.
The Nene Modeling Agency
The 28-year-old Thai national has been charged by the nation’s Department of Special Investigations with a range of offences, including sexually assaulting children aged under 13 and taking away children aged under 15 for indecent purposes.
The Australian Federal Police said Thai authorities alleged he was using the modelling agency as a “front” to access and abuse children to then record and distribute footage and images of the crimes.
Thai investigators on February 11 searched the man’s home, which is also used as the offices of the modelling agency, and charged him with the offences.
The 28-year-old was first arrested in May 2020 after police again searched the modelling agency’s headquarters while investigating the alleged activities of another man identified as part of the probe by the South Australia Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team.
The AFP said police in Thailand seized several electronic devices allegedly containing more than 500,000 files of child abuse material and charged him with possessing the illegal content.
The international investigation has already led to the jailing of nine offenders in Thailand and Australia since May 2018.

It has also resulted in the identification of more than 100 child victims, including the removal of numerous children from immediate harm in Australia and overseas.
AFP Asia Commander Peter Sykora said the operation showed the impact of law enforcement agencies working together and sharing intelligence.
“The AFP and our partners in Australia and overseas have the same determination to protect and remove children from abuse and bring their perpetrators to justice,” he said. “There are no borders when it comes to protecting children, and investigations are ongoing to identify and rescue victims wherever they are located.”
An administrator of the website, a Thai national, was found to live in Adelaide and was arrested in January 2018.
South Australian investigators reviewed more than 850,000 video and image files seized from the Adelaide-based site administrator that showed him sexually abusing multiple children, including babies.
In May 2019, he was sentenced to 40 years and three months jail in Adelaide – the longest sentence imposed for child sexual offences in Australia at the time.
Northern Ontario teachers among 28 whose licences have been
revoked for sexual misconduct
28 members had their licences revoked on Dec. 8 2020, following a new law mandating any educator disciplined for sexually abusive conduct or child pornography receive a lifetime ban from teaching

Sexually charged text messages, viewing child pornography and touching female students during gym class — in years gone by these resulted in a suspension by Ontario’s teacher regulator and an order that the teacher take boundary counselling. Sometimes, the teacher was transferred to another school.
But following a retroactive look through hundreds of discipline cases, the Ontario College of Teachers has officially revoked the licences of 28 teachers, some from the past few years, others from cases 10 or 20 years ago. Many were no longer practising teachers, according to the college. At least five were.
Below, using information from discipline hearings of the Ontario College of Teachers, are the names and a summary of the findings for the 28 members whose licences were revoked on Dec. 8, 2020 following a new Ontario law which mandates that any educator disciplined for sexually abusive conduct or child pornography receive a lifetime ban from teaching. Sexual contact was not necessary for a finding of sexual abuse.
In each case presented here, the Star has provided a link to the college’s discipline finding. Click on the last name to be taken to the OCT discipline document.
The information below is drawn from the Ontario College of Teachers discipline decisions, which are available to the public on the college’s website. In the information released by the college Tuesday, they have noted “non practising” beside 23 of the 28 revocations, meaning that to the best of the Ontario College’s knowledge and as of 2020, the teacher was no longer teaching. The Star has placed “NP” as a notation beside those teachers. In some cases, particularly the older ones, it appears they resigned years ago — but the college is now adopting a zero tolerance stance and officially revoking their licence.

A paedophile who sexually abused two children has been jailed.
Jeffery Hawksworth was sentenced to 16 years in prison after a jury unanimously found him guilty of 17 counts of indecently assaulting a child.
The 68-year-old was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.
All of the abuse occurred in the Cheshire East area in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Hawksworth, of Lansing Gardens in Derby, was convicted following a seven day trial at Chester Crown Court which concluded on Tuesday, February 9.
Detectives from Cheshire Police thanked the victims for their bravery and determination in coming forward.
He added that Hawksworth "systematically abused" the children over a number of years for his own sexual gratification.
Paedophile police officer jailed for raping teenage Cheshire girl
A former Cheshire police officer has been jailed after being convicted of a string of sexual offences, including the rape of a teenage girl.
Ian Naude, 30, of Market Drayton in Shropshire, was today (Thursday) handed a 30 year jail sentence (25 years custodial and five years on licence) for a number of sexual offences after being found guilty after a trial at Liverpool Crown Court in November.
Naude was found guilty by a jury of rape and sexual assault, as well as four charges of attempting to arrange commission of a child sex offence and one charge of arranging commission of a child sex offence.
He pleaded guilty to a further 30 offences, including inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, making indecent photos of children and misconduct in a public office.
Judge Clement Goldstone QC told Naude that he was a cold, uncaring paedophile and a very dangerous man.
Following sentencing, Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson, the Senior Investigating Officer for this case, said: “Ian Naude is a sexual predator of the most evil kind. He joined Cheshire police with the sole purpose of gaining a position of trust so he could prey on young, vulnerable girls. His behaviour and actions were truly appalling and the sentence handed down to him today reflects that.
“I have worked on this investigation for the past 12 months alongside a dedicated team of officers and staff. It has been a long, complex and very challenging investigation. Never would I have imagined that I would be investigating a police officer and for such horrendous crimes.
“It was Ian Naude’s job to enforce the law and protect people from harm. Instead he became the most dangerous of predators and betrayed the very people he swore to protect.
“The details of this case are hard enough for someone like me - a police officer with 24 years’ service - to hear. For the victims who had to go through it – it has left them completely traumatised.
