Rio Dell, Cal Man Pleads Not Guilty to Child Sex Abuse Charges
A Rio Dell man pleaded not guilty today to the sexual abuse of two children, with one of the alleged victims 10 years old or younger when they were molested.
Judge Larry Killoran advised Jorge Alcazar Vasquez, 41, that he has been charged with the felonies of oral copulation or sexual penetration of a child 10 or younger and sexual intercourse or sodomy of a child 10 or younger. The alleged abuse took place between August 2017 and June 2018.
Additionally, Vasquez is accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child from July 2018 to October 2019.
Eureka police arrested Vasquez after an extensive investigation, and he remains in Humboldt County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1,705,000. Today he appeared via video from the jail, speaking through Spanish interpreter Carlos Benemann.
Asked whether he wanted to hire an attorney or have one appointed, Vasquez said “I don’t have money for this.”
Killoran appointed the Conflict Counsel’s Office to represent Vasquez, with Deputy Conflict Counsel R.J. Loehner entering not guilty pleas on his behalf. Loehner warned Vasquez sharply not to speak to anyone about his case.
“Do not discuss the allegations with anybody,” the attorney said. “Phone calls are recorded; letters are copied and will be used against you.”
At Loehner’s request, a bail hearing was scheduled for Tuesday. A probation officer will interview Vasquez and then make a recommendation on whether he is a good candidate for supervised release. His bail amount will also be discussed then.
The judge told Vasquez he is to have no contact whatsoever with the victims. “I have a protective order that’s going to be served on you by the end of the day,” Killoran said.
In the EPD news release issued after Vasquez’s arrest, just one victim was mentioned. Loehner said today that he understood “a statement was taken yesterday,” and he asked for a copy of the statement.
As of now, the preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 14.

NH police executed a search warrant and several items were seized, leading to charges in a child sex abuse images case

BARRINGTON — After nearly a year of investigating, police arrested an area man and charged him with five felony counts of possession of child sex abuse images.
Michael E. Caron, 43, of Ramsdell Lane, Barrington, was arrested Wednesday, according to a statement released by the Barrington Police Department. The investigation began in April 2020 after police were notified a resident in town was engaged in downloading child sexual abuse images.
On March 11, in cooperation with the New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Barrington police executed a search warrant on the Ramsdell Lane apartment and several items were seized. Police said those items were further searched by members of the NHICAC task force. As a result, the arrest warrant was issued.
Police said at no time during the lengthy investigation was any member of the public or the owner of the property on Ramsdell Lane in any danger.
That's not actually true. If he was downloading child sex abuse images, then children were in danger. It's disappointing that the police would not realize that. It's disappointing that it took them a year to investigate this case. Children were abused in that time period and possibly because of him.

AVON, N.Y. (WHEC)— The Livingston County Sheriffs Office Thursday announced the arrest of a man on numerous child sex abuse charges, with accused offenses dating back to the 1980s.
In a release, deputies say they arrested and charged Frank Wright, 75 of Allegany County last Thursday.
INITIAL CALL REVEALS SURVIVORS
On October 5, 2020, deputies went to a home in the Village of Avon for the report of sexual abuse that occurred when the caller was a young child. The caller told deputies she was sexually abused in the late 1990s by an individual who was known to her.
This sparked an investigation of the allegations by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. Through its work, the division learned of additional survivors who say they were sexually abused and raped by Wright dating back over 60 years.
Deputies report the victims were all children at the time of the alleged crimes. During the course of the investigation, Investigators interviewed survivors in New York State and also traveled to meet with other people outside of the state.
That's when police were eventually led to and arrested Wright.
A HISTORY OF ALLEGED ABUSE LEADS TO CHARGES
On March 25, Wright was arrested and charged with five counts of felony Rape in the First Degree for crimes deputies say he committed in the Town of Avon between 1987 and 1988. It is alleged that the crimes began when the victim was 12 years old.
On March 26, Wright was charged with an additional five counts of felony Sodomy in the First Degree for crimes he committed in the Town of Springwater between 1992 and 1996. Deputies say these crimes were committed against a separate survivor and that the crimes began when this person was just five years old.
Later that day, Wright was charged with two counts of felony Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and one count of felony Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child in the Second Degree for crimes deputies say he committed in the Town of Avon in 1998. Deputies say Wright sexually abused a third survivor, beginning when she was four.
"Sometimes as young as 4 years old all the way up to about the age of 13, and he would select his victims," Capt. Mike Williams said. "They were victims that were known to him without getting too much details they were known to him, and he would go through the typical grooming process."
Wright was arraigned several times at the Livingston County Jail.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Wright is currently being housed at the Livingston County Jail, he's being held on bail as he awaits his next court appearance.
Deputies say the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are expected. Any additional victims are asked to contact the Sheriff’s office at 585-243-7100 or 844.LCSO.TIP
