Paso Robles man convicted of 52 sex crimes against children
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A Paso Robles man was found guilty of more than 50 child sex crimes including sexual abuse and possession of child pornography.
Jason Robert Porter, 49, of Paso Robles was found guilty of 16 felony counts for crimes committed against four victims and 36 misdemeanor counts for videotaping victims without their knowledge. Porter was 36 when the crimes began.
Porter waived his right to a trial by jury and was found guilty by a San Luis Obispo County Superior Court judge.
During the six-day trial, evidence was presented that showed Porter had sexually abused four young girls between the ages of 1 and 13. The abuse happened over the span of more than eight years, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office said. Additionally, evidence was presented that showed Porter had videotaped 36 victims without their knowledge, leading to 36 misdemeanor charges for invasion of privacy.
San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow said one of Porter's young victims testified in court.
“We sincerely applaud the courage of the young survivor who testified and the tenacity of the law enforcement personnel who gathered and reviewed all of the evidence – including 324 electronic devices and more than 4 terabytes of cyber data to prove these horrible crimes,” Dow said.
This case was investigated by the Paso Robles Police Department with the assistance of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation and Central Coast Cyber Forensic Laboratory.
Porter is due back in court on June 28. He faces a maximum sentence of more than 300 years to life in prison.

MEDFORD, Ore. — A sex offender arrested in the Ruch area in 2019 during a child pornography raid was sentenced on Wednesday to 12 years in prison, according to the Jackson County District Attorney's office.
An investigation into 42-year-old Joaquin Amadeus Cowart began in September of 2019. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children passed on a tip to local law enforcement that Cowart may have been exchanging child pornography via Facebook. Over the following weeks, investigators obtained several search warrants to confirm Cowart's identity and location.
In October, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office raided Cowart's home in Ruch and seized several digital devices. The Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force analyzed the devices and confirmed that Cowart had shared at least one exploitative image and possessed others.
Cowart was already being held in jail on an outstanding warrant. Following the October searches, Cowart was indicted on child pornography charges in December by a grand jury.
After Cowart's arrest on the initial charges, a victim came forward to the Sheriff's Office and revealed that they had been sexually abused by Cowart "some ten years prior," the DA's office said. The victim was a juvenile at the time of the abuse.
Another grand jury met and heard evidence regarding the sex abuse allegations, approving four counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree.
During a settlement conference on May 24, Cowart agreed to plead guilty to Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and four counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree. An additional five counts of Encouraging Child Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree and a pending case in Josephine County were dismissed as part of the agreement.
On Wednesday, Judge Timothy Barnack sentenced Cowart to a total of 144 months in state prison, plus three years of post-prison supervision. Already a convicted sex offender, Cowart will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

McKINNEY, Texas - A 40-year-old Allen man will spend the next five decades behind bars as a convicted child predator.
Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said Alejandro Amoles Jr. was sentenced to 50 years in prison without the possibility of parole for the continuous sexual abuse of a 6-year-old.
Amoles, who had a relationship with the child’s family, began the abuse when the child was 5 years old.
A year later, the child reported the abuse to a family friend who was visiting for the weekend. That family friend got the police involved.
"This child suffered an entire year of unspeakable abuse before bravely reporting this predator to a trusted family friend," DA Willis said in a statement.
Amoles stood trial following an investigation and jurors found him guilty.
He is not eligible for parole because of Texas’ child predator laws.
