Top US university offers courses on sex work and queer studies

Princeton University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the US, is introducing courses on traditionally taboo subjects as part of its spring 2025 semester curriculum, according to its recently published online course listing.

The offerings, part of the school’s gender and sexuality studies program, will cover topics such as queer theory, prostitution, pornography, sex tourism, and architectural histories viewed through feminist and LGBTQ+ perspectives.

The department will offer a total of five classes that include the word ‘queer’ in the course descriptions. A course on ‘Queer Spaces in the World’ will delve into the history of “groups and institutions that have actively resisted dominant regimes of power,” and analyze institutional and historical power dynamics through gender-related theories.

A course called ‘Love: Anthropological Explorations’ is said to explore links between love and technology, gender, race, law, capitalism, colonialism, and religion. The university’s course on prostitution, ‘Power, Profit and Pleasure: Sex Workers and Sex Work’, is pitched as a discussion about sex workers and their clients, and will cover stigmatization and controversies regarding the topic, as well as race, class, and queer dynamics.

Attending Princeton comes with a significant financial commitment. For the 2024-2025 academic year, tuition is set at $59,710, with the total cost of attendance, including room, board, and fees, exceeding $80,000.

Princeton has not yet commented on its new course offerings. However, it is not the first US university to offer classes exploring LGBTQ+ issues.

Stanford University in California, for instance, announced last week a course called ‘Queer Electronic Music Composition’, which will focus on LGBTQ+ contributions to electronic music and creative projects. The University of Chicago’s 2023-2024 program included a religious studies course called ‘Queering God’, which was promoted as applying LGBTQ+ ideology to different religions. Texas Christian University offered a ‘Queer Art of Drag’ class last year that required students to create a “drag persona” and “engage queer theories in relation to performance practice.”

Russia has taken a different position on the issue for over a decade, adopting a number of laws restricting LGBTQ+ propaganda to minors in 2013 and broadening the ban to include adults in 2022. That year, Russia outlawed the “international LGBT public movement,” with the Supreme Court labeling it an extremist organization.

Where did they hire the professors for these courses from?

What were their experience requirements expected?

Yes, Trump won the election. Yes, the great societal pendulum is swinging back toward sanity. But the left hasn’t stopped pushing insanity on the larger society, as a recent case on the Left Coast indicates.

Tremaine “Tremayne” Deon Carroll is 52 years old. He is facing two charges of rape. That might give you the idea that we are talking about a male, but Carroll is accused of committing these crimes while doing time in Central California Women’s Facility in Chowchilla. He was being held there in the first place because he has successfully convinced authorities that he is a woman, despite his mustache and close-cropped goatee. And now, adding an absurd insult to an absurd injury, a judge has ordered Carroll’s victims to refer to him as “she” while they are testifying against him.

It must be his feminine charms! The judge seems to have no problem revictimizing his victims. He needs to be fired.

There is more. Read the rest here.

Family-owned restaurant forced to close after ‘frivolous’ gender discrimination ‘Ladies Night’ suit

A popular restaurant in California’s Bay Area is shutting its doors after settling a costly discrimination lawsuit — over its ‘Ladies Night’ promotion.

Lima Restaurant a family-run Peruvian eatery in Concord, Calif., about 20 miles outside of Oakland — told patrons it will serve its final meal on New Year’s Eve because of the gender discrimination lawsuit.

Chef/owner John Marquez said the lawsuit, filed last year, has cost his restaurant tens of thousands of dollars — putting a major dent in the business’ cash flow.

“We haven’t fully recovered from the recent discrimination lawsuit related to our ladies’ night discount” as well as the escalating operating costs of the business, Marquez told KRON-TV .

The restaurant, which has been open for nearly a decade, held a once-a-week “Ladies Night” promotion — offering drinks and wine at half price for three hours to its female patrons — for the past several years.

Marquez said he believes that the people behind the lawsuit aren’t local residents, but “ambulance-chasing lawyers” looking to cash in the state’s law.

“It’s a frivolous lawsuit that took us down” Marquez told ABC7News.

The news of Lima Restaurant’s impending closure did not go down well with patrons.

“Promoting one gender does not discriminate against one gender,” John Dias, a regular at the restaurant, told KRON-TV.

“Hello, I’m a lady. If I want to go out with the girls, it doesn’t seem like a rude thing to do,” added Mel Ludehese, who was having a last drink at Lima with Dias.

The restaurant’s owners say that a lawsuit has drained it of money it needs to keep operating.

Earlier this year, the Fresno Grizzlies, a minor league baseball team which serves as the Single-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, was hit with a similar discrimination lawsuit after they allowed free admission for women as part of a “ladies night” promotion last year.

The Grizzlies were sued for $5 million, according to The Fresno Bee.

The plaintiffs in the Fresno Grizzlies case are represented by a San Diego-based lawyer who reached an agreement on a $500,000 settlement from the Oakland Athletics in 2016 after he filed a class-action lawsuit against the baseball team over a Mother’s Day giveaway of free plaid reversible bucket hats.

The attorney, Alfred Rava, claimed in the lawsuit that he was the victim of sex discrimination by the A’s because he did not receive a free plaid reversible bucket hat during a promotion at an A’s game on May 8, 2004.

In 1985, the California Supreme Court ruled that similar “ladies’ day” promotions at businesses such as car washes and nightclubs violated the Unruh Civil Rights Act of 1959.

The state law prohibits discrimination based on sex, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, sexual orientation and immigration status.

California isn’t the only state where the courts have ruled that “ladies night” promotions could constitute illegal discrimination.

Courts in New York, New Jersey, Minnesota, Iowa, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin have ruled on cases where gender-based promotions were deemed illegal.

I guess it's time to drop the 'Free' in Free Enterprise. What madness!
