16 animal abuse suspects linked to Schagen
babysitter convicted of child sex abuse
Criminal investigations into the physical and sexual abuse of animals are currently underway throughout the Netherlands. All of them are linked to Julian F., a 25-year-old man from Tuitjenhorn convicted last year of sexually abusing one child and two animals after offering his services as a babysitter on Marktplaats. The Public Prosecution Service (OM) is conducting at least 16 investigations into people in F.’s contact list, NH reported after surveying the OM offices throughout the Netherlands.
The suspects include farmers, professional breeders, and pet owners throughout the Netherlands. According to NH, they face suspicions of sexually abusing animals, making their own animals available for sexual abuse, or possession of animal pornography. It is not yet clear whether they form a network of animal abusers. The authorities are still investigating this.
In July, the Noord-Holland court convicted F. of sexually abusing a 1-year-old boy he was babysitting and of bestiality with a dog and a pig. He was sentenced to three years in prison, along with treatment in a closed psychiatric facility.
After F.’s arrest in May 2023, the police found video footage of indecent acts with animals, committed by himself and others, on his phone. He had also 566 numbers on his contact list under names like “farmer,” “pig,” “cow,” “horse,” “dog,” or “male.” The Dutch authorities are currently looking into these contacts and, so far, that has led to at least 16 criminal investigations, NH found.
The OM Oost-Nederland is currently conducting nine investigations into people who may have made their animals available for sex, according to the broadcaster. One suspect is a pig farmer from Overijssel. F.’s phone contained multiple videos of him sexually abusing one of this farmer’s pigs. In a chat conversation with F., the farmer said that he “could deck the sow in heat,” among other things.
The OM Midden-Nederland is already prosecuting a 53-year-old man from Zegveld who allegedly offered his dog, a Shar-pei, to F. for sex. There is video footage of the indecent acts. The Zegveld man is also suspected of beastiality himself. The case will appear in the court in Utrecht on February 6.
The OM in the Amsterdam region is investigating two suspects linked to F. The OM in The Hague has three ongoing investigations. Investigations are also underway at the OM Noord-Nederland, though a spokesperson did not tell NH how many. The OM Zeeland-West-Brabant is investigating one suspect. In Limburg, the police recently had a cease-and-desist talk with a person found on F.’s phone.
