A 16-year-old was arrested Thursday in connection with multiple sexual offences against three minors at a day camp in Montreal's Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough, where he was an employee.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) says the teenager turned himself in at the request of investigators from its sexual assault unit.

He appeared in Quebec Court's youth division Thursday afternoon and faces charges of sexual assault, sexual contact, voyeurism, and the production, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

In a news release, police said that a criminal investigation was launched on July 31 after officers were informed of alleged sexual acts committed against a child attending the camp.

Police said the teen was "quickly removed from his duties" at the camp and interviewed by investigators.

A criminal investigation revealed that the teenager had allegedly victimized two other minors during the same period.

According to the SPVM, the day camp sent a letter to parents of children enrolled in the camp last week, telling them to contact the camp directly with questions or concerns related to the incidents...

Daniel Rochefort, a prominent civil lawyer accused of sex crimes involving children, is seeking a second bail hearing after being denied release in late May.

The request was filed in Quebec Superior Court on Friday.

Rochefort, 72, faces 11 charges involving two alleged victims who were minors. He was caught in a sting operation involving a female police officer posing online as a 12-year-old girl and was arrested by Montreal police on May 7.

The proceedings are subject to a publication ban, but the Crown is opposing the current application for a review of his detention. A hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 21.

Rochefort was initially charged with producing child sexual abuse material and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

The authorities brought additional charges against him on May 11, alleging sexual interference, sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching, all involving a minor.

The alleged offences took place between January 2007 and January 2012. Rochefort has contested the allegations.

Montreal police later said investigators had reason to believe Rochefort may have had other victims between 2007 and 2026. The investigation is ongoing and more people have come forward to the authorities as potential victims.

Rochefort founded Rochefort & Associates in 1996, a firm specializing in labour and administrative law.

He has represented several police officers, including former Montreal police chief Philippe Pichet. Rochefort is also known for his work at the Gomery and Charbonneau commissions and was formerly a lecturer at Université de Montréal.

In 2022, Rochefort was fired from a teaching position following complaints of sexual harassment from at least three female students.
