San Diego Police officer charged with child sex abuse involving multiple victims

San Diego Police officer Brandon McGibbon has been charged by a federal grand jury with five counts of child sexual abuse offenses involving three minor victims, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California said on Friday.

Between Oct. 25 and Nov. 6, 2025, McGibbon, 33, engaged in the attempted receipt and production of child pornography and the attempted enticement and coercion of the minors to engage in obscene matter and sexual conduct, authorities said.

In an emailed statement to NBC 7, the San Diego Police Department responded by stating that the department suspended McGibbon when they learned of the investigation and stripped him of his police powers.

"We hold our officers to the highest standards, and these allegations do not reflect the great work of the men and women of the San Diego Police Department," Poorsaleh added.

McGibbon has been with the SDPD for six years.

FBI special agents cooperated with the SDPD in leading the investigation into McGibbon. The case is the result of ongoing collaboration between the U.S. Attorney’s Office Special Victims Unit and the San Diego District Attorney’s Office. The SVU leads collaborations between federal and local law enforcement in the investigation and prosecution of cases involving sex trafficking and child exploitation, civil rights, and labor trafficking.

McGibbon is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court on Tuesday.

Former Boy Scout leader sentenced in Houston-area child sex assault case dating back to 2000

Former Boy Scout leader and NASA engineer Robert Griffin Alexander has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for the aggravated sexual assault of a 12-year-old boy.

A Galveston County jury on Friday sentenced Alexander, of League City, for the sexual assault, which prosecutors said began in 2000. The victim later came forward, and prosecutors learned there were additional victims.

Alexander abused the boy for four years, according to a news release from Galveston County Criminal District Attorney Kenneth A. Cusick. The victim came forward to police 17 years later. During that time, the boy's brothers also reported abuse by Alexander, who was one of the brothers' Cub Scout leaders.

In 2017, the report to law enforcement did not lead to prosecution. But after a fourth victim came forward in 2022 and reported that Alexander had sexually abused him in 2010, the case was reopened by the League City Police Department.

Alexander was indicted on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child in the 2000 abuse case and indecency with a child by contact in the 2010 abuse case.

The Chronicle reached out to an attorney representing Alexander but did not get an immediate response.

Former school custodian indicted on child exploitation charges in Butler County

A former school custodian has been indicted on multiple child exploitation charges in Butler County.

76-year-old Dennis Lahr, from Middletown, was indicted by a Butler County Grand Jury on three counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material and three counts of tampering with evidence.

The investigation began on May 4, when a witness told police they saw Lahr viewing child sexual abuse material.

The incident was reported to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, which immediately initiated an investigation that led to the indictment.

According to the sheriff's office, investigators learned the activity had reportedly been occurring since 2023.

“These types of charges are absolutely disgusting and sickening,” said Sheriff Richard Jones said. “Our detectives work tirelessly to protect children and aggressively investigate anyone involved in exploiting minors. We will continue to pursue these predators and hold them accountable for their actions. If you victimize children in Butler County, expect to go to jail.”

Lahr was a custodian at Hopewell Junior School in Butler County.

Lakota Schools says he was placed on paid administrative leave after district administrators learned of complaints against him.

After charges were filed, he was placed on unpaid leave. Prior to the indictment, his retirement was approved at Wednesday's school board meeting.

The district says Lahr did not work during regular school hours and had minimal interaction with students.

The district says it plans to "cooperate fully with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office as they continue their own investigation around this matter."

In 2024, the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office started to investigate allegations that had first began to surface against retired Air Force Brigadier General Mike Houston McClendon in 2018.

McClendon was arrested on May 11, 2024, after a child gave a very detailed report of continuous abuse that was happening at his ranch in Hopkins County, according to Hopkins County District Attorney Will Ramsay’s office.

Investigators were also able to secure search warrants for McClendon’s electronic devices and Ramsay’s office said information found on those devices corroborated the victim’s report.

“As the trial date approached, both parties waived their right to a jury trial and agreed to try the case in front of 8th Judicial District Judge Eddie Northcutt,” a press release from Ramsay’s office described.

On Thursday morning, Norcutt found McClendon guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a young child or children and sentenced him to 40 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
