Brave Teri Hatcher has opened up about being sexually molested as a child by an uncle.
The 49-year-old Desperate Housewives actress gave an emotional and powerful address during a United Nations event commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Hatcher was not her uncle Richard Hayes Stone’s only victim.
Despite blaming herself and keeping quiet about the abuse for years, she decided to finally come forward after another victim took her own life and implicated him in her suicide note.
Her testimony helped see Stone convicted and sentenced to 14-years imprisonment. He died while serving that sentence.
I'm sure it took a lot of courage to 'come out' about the ordeal because you relive it every time you do, and the first time is far and away the most difficult. Teri is a real hero even though she says she is not. God bless her.
This is not the first time that Hatcher has spoken about her ordeal. She spoke openly about the incident in a 2006 interview with Vanity Fair and is an active speaker against abuse.
