Pennsylvania Scout Leader charged with
child sex abuse
Bob BrooksPARKESBURG, Pa. (WPVI) -- A man who police say has ties to scouting groups, emergency medical providers and volunteer fire companies in Chester County has been charged with child sexual abuse.
Thirty-eight-year-old Michael Kellon of Parkesburg was arrested Wednesday and charged with involuntary deviant sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault of a minor and related offenses.
Police say the arrest followed an investigation into alleged child sex abuse dating back to 2011.
Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan says it was the bravery of his victim who helped put a stop to him.
"This victim is very strong. He actually realized, after some time had gone by, that he needed to report this," said Hogan.
Kellon is now accused of some of the worst crimes against kids including sexual assault and indecent assault of a minor under 13 years old.
Even worse, the police report states, "The victim advised that he met the defendant while the defendant was an assistant Boy Scout leader." Hogan says the Boy Scouts are handling the situation accordingly.
"Chester County Boy Scouts are a remarkably strong organization. They have responded just as they should here, which is they are notifying all of the members, all of the kids involved, all of the parents, stepping up and doing all the right things," said Hogan.
But he's not surprised to hear Kellon used the Scouts to do this. "That's typical for someone who is a child predator. They are going to go and put themselves into situations where they have access to children," said Hogan.
On Wednesday, Kellon was interviewed and, according to the report, admitted to everything.
It states, "After waving his Miranda rights the defendant did admit to all of the allegations made against him."
District Attorney Hogan is asking that if Kellon has harmed anyone else that they contact the police immediately at 610-857-3535.
Kellon is behind bars in lieu of $300,000 bail.
