Four Columbia County residents were on trial accused of sexually abusing four children under the age of 11.
Goliath Van Alphen, Jeanine Van Alphen-Moot, William Wendover III and Eugene Shackleton are being tried on a total of 58 felony charges. Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka is prosecuting the case. Czajka told the jury the investigation into the sex abuse allegations began in late 2012. “I ask you to keep in mind that there are four victims in this case, every one of whom was at all relevant times under the age of 11,” Mr. Czajka said.
The defendants were arrested in December 2014, following a two-year investigation. The 58-count indictment was handed down in July 2015.
Why did it take two years to investigate? Were the children being sexually abused during these two years?
