Rotherham paedo gets three more years for trolling child victim from prison on social media
By Henry Clare
Daily Record

A child abuser already serving a 10-year jail sentence has been handed more than three extra years after a "vindictive campaign of social media trolling" against one of his victims.

Waseem Khaliq, who was convicted at Sheffield Crown Court last month of indecent assault and child abduction, also phoned the National Crime Agency (NCA) from prison to threaten two of their investigating officers, the agency said.

The 35-year-old - who was originally prosecuted as part of the Operation Stovewood investigation into child exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2003 - claimed he knew where one of them lived, and said he hoped they died of cancer or Aids.

Appearing again at Sheffield Crown Court on Monday, he was given a 45-month top-up to his 10-year sentence after admitting three counts of witness intimidation, the NCA said.

Using the false name "Andros Simpson" on Facebook, he pretended to be an investigative journalist looking into what was happening in Rotherham, the NCA said.

A spokesman added that Khaliq used the profile to claim his victim was lying and had only agreed to give evidence as she had been offered money and a new house.

Although the account was shut down, similar posts continued to appear on social media websites and only stopped once he was remanded into custody in March.

Despite the online abuse, the victim eventually gave evidence against Khaliq in the latest Operation Stovewood trial, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

A very heroic girl. God bless you.

NCA senior investigating officer Phillip Marshall said: "Through his vindictive campaign of social media trolling, Khaliq only compounded the suffering his victims had already gone through.

"They showed extreme bravery in coming forward and continuing to give evidence despite this, and I once again pay tribute to them.

"Our investigation has been victim-focused throughout, and this conviction demonstrates that we will not tolerate attempts to intimidate victims or our officers who work with them."

Kate Hurst, from the CPS, said: "Engaging in acts of any kind which are intended to intimidate victims and witnesses in a criminal trial is an offence which strikes at the heart of the criminal justice system."

Indeed, and a good sentence that will give this lunatic time to think about that.

But, why do violent prisoners have access to social media from prison? How absurd is that?

UK nudist paedophile tried to have sex with undercover cop’s disabled daughter, 8
Emma Brazell
Metro News

A paedophile has been jailed for 26 years after he asked an undercover police officer if he could have sex with her disabled daughter, eight.

Gerald Hedges, 61, targeted the girl – who had a mental age of five – after the officer posed online as a mother, telling him her child had a condition known as Type 21 Down.

He also raped two adult women almost three decades ago and sexually abused two other women when they were children, Portsmouth Crown Court heard.

A jury heard how Hedges started talking to the officer in an online chatroom called Disabled Chat UK.

When she told him she had two daughters – the eight-year-old and a baby girl – he asked if he could move in as a lodger to help pay her bills.

In messages sent in May and June 2017, Hedges told the officer they could ‘share both girls’ and he would be her ‘kids’ lover’.

After the defendant was arrested, two women came forward revealing Hedges had raped them around 30 years ago and two further women claimed they had been sexually abused by him when they were children.

Prosecutor Jodie Mittell said: ‘Hedges was particularly interested in young girls in school uniform, because he would slow down [as he was driving] in the car if they were walking past.’

Mittell also read statements from his victims, with one saying she had battled severe anxiety issues, triggered by Hedges’ favourite drink whiskey and the sight of ‘overweight older men’.

In her statement, one victim said: ‘I just feel sick all the time and totally anxious. I just need closure and to feel safe again.’ Another wrote: ‘I feel alone, I always have, and I have never felt like I fitted anywhere.

I still feel ashamed and dirty.’ Hedges denied the charges, insisting he had been joking in the online chat room, had never abused any young girls and the sex with the two adults was consensual. But a jury convicted him of seven charges of indecent assault, two child sex offence, and five rape charges after a trial in July.

Judge Timothy Mousley QC said Hedges ‘lacked the courage to admit what he did’ and jailed him for 26 years.

Ordering Hedges’ laptop, mobile phone and tablet – which were all used for grooming – to be destroyed, he said: ‘I dare say your victims will never fully recover or reach a stage when they feel safe.

One can only hope now we have come to the stage you have been sentenced there will be some degree of closure.’ Speaking after the case, Hampshire police constable Deborah Symes, part of the team who caught Hedges, said his victims had finally got the ‘justice they deserve’.

She said: ‘Hedges is a dangerous man capable of online child abuse, as well as contact sex offences involving both adults and children.

‘No doubt it has been especially difficult for his victims, having to revisit and disclose the most distressing time of their life, stand up in court to give evidence, and tell their story in front of a jury of strangers ‘They had lived with this and bottled it up for nearly 20 years while Hedges walked free.’

PSNI confirms it’s receiving reports of child sexual abuse in Fermanagh, N.I., ‘on a daily basis’
By Rodney Edwards
Impartial Reporter

Six months on and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has refused yet again to provide details about its investigation into historical child sexual abuse in Fermanagh.

After allegations of abuse first emerged in The Impartial Reporter a special taskforce was set up by the PSNI to review every single case in the county.

It’s understood specialist officers are now interviewing alleged victims every week and are still receiving new information, even after all these months.

Despite being asked questions on sexual abuse claims by this newspaper, the PSNI will not reveal:
• How many alleged victims in Fermanagh have been interviewed by detectives
• How many alleged abusers in Fermanagh have been questioned by detectives
• How many alleged abusers in Fermanagh have been arrested by detectives
• How confident it is that links to alleged abuse in Fermanagh are being established
• How close it is to passing information on Fermanagh sexual abuse claims to the Public Prosecution Service

Instead in a statement yesterday (Wednesday) a PSNI spokeswoman said: “Investigations into historical child sexual abuse in County Fermanagh are actively ongoing and therefore police are limited in the information they can provide at this time”.

“Working with and supporting victims to provide their evidence is central to this work and specialist Public Protection Branch detectives are working at gathering and reviewing evidence,” she said.

The spokeswoman confirmed that the PSNI receive and investigate reports of historical child sexual abuse, both recent and historical, in Fermanagh and right across Northern Ireland “on a daily basis” and said officers “remain absolutely dedicated to gathering all relevant information and evidence in relation to all reports made to us in the Fermanagh area and signposting victims to one of the many dedicated support services as the wellbeing of victims is first and foremost our priority”.

“We would encourage anyone who has been a victim to please come forward and speak to us or one of partner organisations trained to support victims. Every report of historical child sexual abuse is taken seriously.

“You do not need to come into a police station to make a report.

“You can report  directly to us via 101 or through a dedicated email address at historicalabuse@psni.pnn.police.uk and detectives will arrange to meet you at a time and place that best suits you,” she said.

30-year mystery solved as South Korea’s worst serial rapist/killer likely identified

Sketch of the suspect in the Hwaseong murders. © Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency

South Korea’s worst serial killer looks like he has finally been identified after his violent crimes inspired a hit movie and confounded investigators for more than 30 years.

After decades of unsuccessful searching, police believe they have finally made a breakthrough in the infamous “Hwaseong murders” case, announcing that the prime suspect is a man in his 50s who is currently serving a prison sentence for another rape and murder, the Yonhap news agency reports.

The killer carried out a series of rapes and murders that shocked South Korea in the 1980s and early 1990s, when at least 10 women between the ages of 14 and 71 were raped and murdered in Hwaseong, a city southwest of the capital Seoul.

Officials said on Wednesday that the prime suspect was identified after the state forensic agency discovered that DNA collected from two of the victims matched with his.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said it will reveal more information about the killer, whose name has not yet been released, at a press conference on Thursday.

Unfortunately for the victim’s families, the killer cannot be prosecuted for the grisly murders as the statute of limitations for the crimes has elapsed.

Stupid Statute of Limitations. They shouldn't exist for either rape or murder.

The notorious case was the main inspiration for the hit film ‘Memories of Murder,’ which is one of the most successful films in the history of South Korean cinema.

Lovely! I'm sure the murderer enjoyed watching it over and over.

UK paedophile who injected boy, 12, with steroids
while grooming him for sex -  jailed

By Pat Hurst Kelly - Ann Mills, The Mirror

A paedophile, who injected a teenage boy with steroids while grooming him for sex, has been jailed for 10 years.

John Andrew Carter first preyed on the child, then aged 12, at a gym, befriending the youngster and his family by pretending to help him weight train.

Carter, 39, would secretly inject testosterone into the youth's shoulders and bottom, while sexually abusing the child over a two-year period, Manchester Crown Court heard.

After the youth suddenly developed "the body of a man", teachers and family became suspicious, but he "flipped" when his mother confronted him, accusing him of taking steroids.

Carter then paid another youth £50 to take a blood test, clear of steroids, in his victim's name, to allay parental fears.

The defendant, a former fruit and veg seller of Bolton Road, Aspull, Greater Manchester, was convicted last month of six counts of sexual activity with a child following a week-long trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Jailing him for 10 years, Judge Michael Leeming told the defendant: "Your behaviour was progressive and it was persistent."

Carter, who made no reaction as he was jailed, was also given an extended licence for six years after his release and will be on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

He is assessed as being a "high risk" to male children.

He was also convicted of supplying Diazepam, a muscle relaxant, to his victim who, as a victim of sexual offences, cannot be identified.

Neil Bisarya, prosecuting, told the court Carter met the child, then aged 12, in 2014, befriending his unsuspecting family and grooming the youngster.

The boy began sleeping over at Carter's home, which he shared with his partner, and the victim "felt compelled" to allow the defendant to inject him with testosterone, such was the hold he had over him.

Carter would molest the child during "play fights" and also shave the youngster's body, with the sexual assaults becoming progressively more serious.

But the victim's family became increasingly uncomfortable with the relationship and the time he spent with Carter away from his family.

He eventually confessed to them about the steroids and police were called in.

He also then admitted to his mother, "He touched me".

Carter was arrested in September 2016 but continues to deny any wrongdoing.

In victim impact statements the youngster said he "wasn't supposed to be the person I am now", that the abuse had left him feeling worthless, he has no happy memories of his teenage years and he is now receiving medication and counselling.

A statement from his mother said she had a "gut feeling something was not right", but did not suspect Carter had a "hidden, disgusting agenda". "It has broken us, nothing is ever going to be the same. The defendant took the life we had as a family," she added.

The mother and other family members wept and hugged each other in the public gallery as Carter was sent down.

'Raped' girl found with head bashed in after being killed with concrete block in Cape Town

WARNING DISTURBING GRAPHIC DETAILS

By Amber Hicks, The Mirror

The half-naked body of a 14-year-old girl was found with her "brain leaking" from her skull after she was beaten to death with a concrete block.

Janika Mallo was discovered in her grandmother's garden on Sunday morning by horrified family members who believe she was raped as her dungarees had been pulled down.

The teenager's skull had been so badly bashed, relatives said they saw "her brain leaking” from the left side of her face, according to IOL News.

The friendly schoolgirl lived in Heinz Park in Cape Town, South Africa, with her mother Janine Mallo, 31.

Distraught Janine sobbed as she recalled their last interaction on Saturday about 6pm when they had had an argument.

She said: “I smacked her in her face and told her she cannot go to the soccer club’s event in Portland, and that was the last I saw her alive. The last thing I gave my child was a smack across her face. She was on her way home as far as I know when last I heard from her and her friends.”

Police are investigating a group of young men “known for their mischief” in the area of the city.

Two teenagers have been arrested.

Janika's grandmother Pauline Butler told IOL: “At the scene, the 18-year-old was acting suspicious and had fresh scratch marks on his neck. So the arrest didn’t surprise me. He was arrested on Monday and on Tuesday the other one was arrested.

“They both allegedly belong to the Hard Livings gang and we know there are more.”

Janika's father Marlon Koopman, 38, who last saw his daughter a week ago, added: “Her face was beaten in with a big brick. I think she was made unconscious and then they raped her. Her dungarees were around her ankles. Her chest was covered, but she was naked otherwise."

Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, confirmed they were investigating the murder.

He said: “The circumstances surrounding the death of a 14-year-old girl whose body was found on Sunday at 8.17am, lying in the backyard of a premises in Chapini Street, Heinz Park, Samora Machel is under investigation.

“A murder case was registered for investigation. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Crime scene experts are on the scene combing the scene for clues. Detectives are following all leads to solve this case.”

Yesterday, residents protested outside the local court demanding justice for Janika. They stood bearing signs as they turned out to support the teen's family.

It comes as police also revealed a total of 179 683 crimes against women and 45,229 against children were reported in the 2018-19 financial year.

I'm presuming this is for all of South Africa, not just Cape Town. Cyril Ramaphosa declared violence against women a crisis in the country

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Johannesburg to demonstrate against what they called a scourge of femicide in South Africa.

Boy had knife to confront ‘renowned paedophile’,
Irish court hears

Judge dismisses charge against 17-y/o victim of paed-ring
caught on way to home of would-be abuser
Gordon Deegan, Irish Times

A victim of a child sex ring, now aged 17, “flipped” and packed a knife with the intention of confronting “a renowned paedophile”, a court has been told.

The teenager was before the Children’s Court in Ennis where he pleaded guilty to the illegal possession of a knife in a Co Clare town on April 17th last.

The incident occurred after the sex offender had made unwanted advances on the boy, the court was told.

Judge Patricia Harney heard the teenager has been through “torture”. She heard he was the primary victim of a paedophile ring in Cork city that the State broke up a number of years ago.

The court heard the teenager suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and he has been in State care since the age of 10. The sexual abuse occurred before he went into State care .

Explaining the background to the incident, solicitor for the teenager, Daragh Hassett told the court: “This young man was the victim of systematic sexual and physical abuse for many years in Cork city. “There was a paedophile ring there broken up by the State some years ago and this young man was the primary victim of that. It was an appalling case.”

Mr Hassett said that this is relevant as the teenager is currently living in State care in a Co Clare town where “a well-known and renowned paedophile befriended my client”.

Advances

Mr Hassett said: “This man was an elderly man and on the night in question, this man telephoned my client and was making certain advances to him and my client got into a taxi to make his way towards where this man lives.”

Mr Hassett said “you have a young man who was a victim of sexual abuse from a very young age and you have this paedophile who was trying to seek him out for the purpose of more abuse and my client reacted and he flipped”.

Sgt Aiden Lonergan said that when the teenager was intercepted by social workers and gardaĆ, a rucksack containing a knife was recovered from the boot of the taxi.

Mr Hassett said the knife was not used on the night and was not taken from the ruck sack. He said the older man is currently the subject of a Garda ‘grooming’ investigation.

Mr Hassett said his client “is doing very, very well” in State care. “I have met the young man. He is a very erudite, bright, well spoken young man who has been through torture since a very young age.

“The State in this case has looked after him very well. In many cases the State is criticised about the way it has handles victim but by the boy’s own admissions, the State has been very good to him,” Mr Hassett said.

“It is a particularly unusual case with unusual facts — he is a particularly impressive young man.

Asked about the background to the incident by Judge Harney as outlined by Mr Hassett, Sgt Aiden Lonergan said the facts are accepted by the State.

Judge Harney said the possession of a knife by a youth is “very concerning and very worrying for the Garda”.

However, Judge Harney said the case was unlike the normal run of cases that come before the district court. She said she would disregard the guilty plea and dismiss the case against the teen. “I have no hesitation in recording a dismissal.”

UK paedophile Steven Thomas jailed
for campaign of sexual abuse
By Katie Feehan, Echo

A SICK predatory paedophile who subjected a teenage girl to a prolonged campaign of sex abuse has been jailed for 14-and-a-half years.

Steven Thomas of Czarina Rise, Laindon, was already a registered sex offender when he targeted his latest victim in 2016.

The 51-year-old carried out horrific attacks on the child, who was 14 when it began, starting with sexual assault moving onto rape.

At a sentencing hearing at Basildon Crown Court today, the court heard how Thomas promised rewards of DVDs, computer games, money and chocolate to coerce his victim into sex.

In what she described as one of the saddest aspects of the case, Judge Samantha Leigh said the victim, who was present at court behind screens, waited until her GCSEs had finished before she reported it because she knew she faced a very disruptive and stressful process.

She added: “That shows the insight and inner strength this young lady has.”

In June this year, the victim walked into a police station after being assaulted by Thomas earlier that day and reported her ordeal to officers.

Thomas was arrested and his home was searched where they recovered a mobile phone which contained indecent images of his victim. In interview, Thomas insisted his “sexual relationship” with the child was consensual.

Judge Leigh said: “Throughout, you sought to justify your actions by blaming your child victim.

“You said she was a willing participant and later said it hadn’t happened until she was 16.

“In my view, this is a sick justification for you to be able to live with what you have done.”

Thomas was charged with four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, one count of assault by penetration, one count of taking indecent images of a child and one count of failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements.

The court heard Thomas was on the sex offenders’ register after he was jailed for four years in 2006 for sexually assaulting a child and taking indecent images of a child.

Judge Leigh added: “I have no difficulty in finding that this defendant does pose a significant risk to the public which is clear to me when I look at your previous offending.”

Thomas admitted all counts and was jailed for 14-and-a-half years and due to the fact he is deemed dangerous must serve an additional five years on extended licence.

#Europol – 11 arrested in child abuse network crackdown
in Georgia including an American and an Aussie
EUReporter

Law enforcement and judicial authorities from Australia, Georgia and the USA, supported by Europol, dismantled an organized criminal network involved in the production and distribution of child sexual exploitation material.

Tbilisi, Georgia

Over the course of the past month, the Georgian Police arrested 11 alleged members of the group including the owners and employees of the photographic studio producing the child sexual exploitation material. American and Australian citizens were also among the arrested suspects. Assisted by Georgian accomplices, they arranged the production of sexual exploitation images of children in rented apartments located in Tbilisi, Georgia. The produced child abuse material was further disseminated by the same criminal group.

The Georgian law enforcement authorities identified up to 10 girls aged from 8 to 14 years old who were victims of the network. Some of the girls were victimized with the consent of their parents in exchange for payments between 500 and 3,000 GEL (approximately €150 to €900).

The Georgian police, supported by Europol, carried out searches in the illegal photo salons and seized computer hardware, disks and memory cards containing child sexual abuse images and videos. Expensive cameras, lighting and computer equipment were also seized.

Europol supported the investigation by facilitating the secure information exchange, providing operational analytical and intelligence support and deploying two experts to support the operational actions on the spot.

Study finds 1300 child sexual abuse cases reported
in last 6 months in Pakistan

Of course, these are just the reported cases and certainly make up a small percentage of the real extent of child sex abuse in the country

More details have begun to emerge about the scale of child sexual abuse in Pakistan as the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Sahil shares its findings with the media.

The reports state as many as 1300 children have had to face sexual abuse of some kind in the last six months in Pakistan.

The report by the NGO specifically took into consideration the incidents of sexual violence against children between January and June this year and concluded that the alarmingly high 1,304 cases had been reported during the mentioned period.

It went on to add that as many as 729 girls and 575 boys suffered sexual abuse of some kind between Jan-Jun 2019.

652 of the cases reported were from within Punjab, 458 in Sindh, 32 in Balochistan, and 51 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Meanwhile, reports of sexual abuse pertaining to underage children amounted to 90 in Islamabad, 18 in Azad Kashmir and 3 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The report further mentioned that as many as 50 children became victims of sexual abuse in Lahore alone. It was also revealed that as many as 12 minor girls and boys suffered sexual abuse in Madrassahs.

The report does not claim to have a comprehensive number for the time-period it covers, and has only been able to compile and add up cases that were reported. This means that the real incidence of child sexual abuse is potentially much higher, and the over-representation of Punjab and Islamabad a sign of better reporting strategies.

It is nonetheless a damning report for the state, as it suggests that the incidents in Kasur are part of a much wider problem.

Sahil has been in operation since 1996, and has sought to introduce protective measures for children since it first started operating.

Imran removes top Punjab police officers after sexual assault, murder of three minor boys
By M Zulqernain, Outlook

Lahore, (PTI) Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered the removal of four top Punjab provincial police officers for failing to arrest the culprits who allegedly sexually assaulted and killed three minor boys.

Police recovered the bodies of the three boys on Tuesday in Kasur district, some 50 kms from Lahore. The incident enraged the residents, who blocked roads in Chunian and burned tyres.

They also surrounded the Chunian police station and pelted stones.

Some of the protesters also tried to burn the police station to vent their anger. The protesters dispersed when a senior police officer told them that some 12 suspects have been taken into custody and police will soon arrest the main culprits.

The minors went missing last month. Local people claim a racket is behind the killing of minor boys after rape.

The outcry caused by the incident compelled Prime Minister Khan to order the removal of all top police officers of Kasur and arrest of the culprits. “The District Police Officer, Kasur Abdul Ghafaar Qaisrani, and SHO in Kasur had been removed and that a major change in the local police ranks was on the cards," the Geo News reported. Police have arrested 12 suspects and sent their DNA samples for forensic examination.

According to Sahil, an NGO working on child abuse cases, in the first six months of current year some 1,300 cases of sexual abuse of children have been reported in the country.

"Seven children are abused daily," it says.

The data from January to June in 2019 reveals that 729 girls and 575 boys became victims of sexual exploitation. The cases under major categories included 378 of abduction, 139 of rape, 153 of sodomy, 46 of gang rape, 88 of gang sodomy whereas 12 boys and four girls have been murdered after sexual abuse.

In 2018, there were 3,307 such incidents reported to police, 39 cases were not reported and 56 cases were not registered.

In Lahore, there were 50 incidents reported last year while nine children had been abducted and 12 reported missing from January to June 2019.

January to June data gave grim numbers as it included five incidents of rape, seven of sodomy, three of gang rape and five of gang sodomy.

"There were other incidents in which three boys and as many girls were murdered after gang rape, sodomy and rape, 186 children were found missing from their homes while there were 40 cases of early child marriage and one case of Vani," Ansar Sajjad Bhatti, the senior regional coordinator of Sahil, said.

Vani is a form of arranged or forced child marriage, and the result of punishment decided by a council of tribal elders named jirga. It is tied to blood feuds among the different tribes and clans and is most common among Pashtuns. - Wikipedia

The most common perpetrator of the child sex abuse was an acquaintance with the victim and the victim’s family. Out of a total of 1,300 cases, 614 cases were such where the abusers had acquaintance with victims or victim’s family.

In all, 142 cases were reported in which strangers were involved in abusing children, the report said.

In the last few years, Kasur has been rocked by multiple incidents of abuse, rape and the murder of children.

In January 2018, a six-year-old girl was found dead in a trash heap near Shahbaz Khan Road, five days after she went missing. Her death had sparked nationwide protests and outrage.

In 2015, a child pornography ring was busted in Kasur’s Hussain Khanwala village PTI MZ RUP
