NORWALK — The owner of a Westport Avenue beauty salon sexually assaulted a teenage boy who was dropped off for a haircut last August, according to an arrest warrant.

Karoll Angelina Jurado-Hernandez, 46, was arrested Tuesday at her salon, Khronos Beauty Salon at 250 Westport Ave., and was charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

The salon was open on Wednesday and an employee hung up when a reporter called for comment.

According to the warrant, Jurado-Hernandez had been left alone with the victim and his older brother for haircuts on Aug. 24.

During the appointment, Jurado-Hernandez brought the teenager into a private room to wax his eyebrows, and asked him personal questions once they were alone, the warrant said.

Jurado-Hernandez asked the boy if he had ever waxed his chest or anywhere else and then asked if she could see, the warrant said. Jurado-Hernandez then performed an unwanted sexual act on the child, the warrant said.

The boy told his father later that night about the incident and they reported it to police, the warrant said. The investigation was later assumed by the Norwalk Police Department’s Special Victims Unit.

When detectives asked Jurado-Hernandez if she ever performed sexual acts on a client, she responded, “that was personal.”

“Angelina stated that in Colombia, there is a saying that she knows if you have sex inside your car or your business of employment that it’s bad energy. Angelina stated there is different places to engage in sex and your business isn’t one of them,” Detective Kristina La Pak wrote in the warrant.

Jurado-Hernandez later told La Pak that “everyone makes mistakes” when the detective served a search-and-seizure warrant to obtain the salon owner’s DNA. That DNA was later found to match remnants of saliva found in the victim’s underwear, the warrant said.

Jurado-Hernandez was initially held on a $250,000 bond, but Judge William Wenzel lowered the amount to $20,000 at her arraignment in Norwalk on Wednesday.

If Jurado-Hernandez posts bail, she is prohibited from having any contact with the victim and his family, she will have to forfeit any passports and will be placed on house arrest.

She is also court-ordered to undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations.

Jurado-Hernandez is next scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk on Feb. 26.

Son uncovers child porn on dad’s tablet,
leads to 10 sexual assault charges in Michigan

Oakland County, MI (WNEM) A Michigan man has been charged with multiple sexual assault crimes after police say his son found child porn on his tablet.

On January 31 around 7 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers were sent to a home in northwestern Oakland County for a report of a runaway.

When troopers contacted the boy, he told them he had found child porn on his dad’s tablet.

Troopers notified child protective services and the boy was put in the care of other family members.

Unspeakable atrocities

Troopers went back to the home of the boy and met with the father. After getting a warrant, troopers searched the home and “large amounts of evidence” of child porn was found, MSP said.

Troopers said the Groveland Township home was extremely cluttered and a full search will take a long time. An MSP cyber dog was called in to help with the search.

According to MSP, the evidence found spans many years. "These are recordings of him with young, very young children, doing unspeakable things to those children."

Leyton says, it's one of the worst sex crimes he's seen.

The father, Jeremy David McCallum, 43, was arrested at the time.

On Monday, McCallum was arraigned in Genesee County on 10 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of felony firearm, one count of child sexual abuse, one count of extortion and one count assault with a dangerous weapon.

While McCallum lives in Oakland County, Genesee County Assistant Prosecutor John Potbury said, “the allegations are that these crimes occurred in Grand Blanc Township.”

McCallum is being held in the Genesee County Jail without bond. Troopers are continuing to investigate items found in McCallum’s home.

Police ‘concerned there may be more victims’ after Alaska motivational speaker arrested on child sex abuse charges
(From APD)
By Beth Verge

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - An Alaskan and ex-convict-turned-motivational-speaker who used to speak at schools across the state about how he made life changes for the better following his stint in prison is once again behind bars, accused of sexually abusing a minor.

Donteh Devoe, 40, was considered by many to be a source of inspiration for young people across Alaska after he was released from federal prison and seemingly turned his life around.

"I was a formidable drug dealer and street soldier, so to speak," Devoe told Channel 2 in 2017, "and that was my lifestyle, you know?"

But on Thursday morning, the Anchorage man was back in jail, this time facing multiple felony charges, including but not limited to the sexual abuse of a minor and possession of child pornography.

Renee Oistand of the Anchorage Police Department said Devoe was taken into custody within an hour of officers receiving a warrant for his arrest on Thursday. He's been incarcerated at the Anchorage Jail, she said.

"For many years now, Devoe has been working as a contract motivational speaker," she said, "and a mentor for youth, statewide."

On January 29 of this year, police said, law enforcement was informed that Devoe was apparently in a sexual relationship with a minor. The teen is someone whom Devoe did not meet through his work, according to court documents provided to Channel 2 on Thursday.

Those papers also detail explicit exchanges between Devoe and the minor, many of them on record and discovered in text messages. The charging documents also include other specific information about what police believe Devoe did, but Channel 2 is not disclosing that info in order to protect the identity of the minor police say was the victim.

However, with so many presentations given to kids and teenagers, many of whom were and are local school students, law enforcement officials said they believe there may be other victims.

"If there are other victims, there could potentially be more charges," Oistad added. "(Devoe) has had access to many juveniles, and we are concerned there may be more victims."

Channel 2 reached out Thursday to multiple school districts about the incident. Officials with the Anchorage School District, one for which Devoe has worked on multiple occasions, declined to go on camera but said in an emailed statement that, "Mr. Devoe is not an ASD employee but has spoken to multiple groups of students, faculty, and administrators at ASD as a motivational speaker."

Anyone with any information is encouraged to please contact police. You can call the Special Victims Unit at (907) 729-7680, and cite APD Case No. 20-3534.

Charges dropped in N.M. couple's child rape case
By Danielle Prokop
Santa Fe New Mexican

A state district judge dismissed all charges against a mother and her boyfriend accused of raping her child after the young accuser denied during court testimony Tuesday in Tierra Amarilla that any sexual abuse had occurred.

The woman — who The New Mexican is not naming to protect the identity of her children — and Ezekiel Maestas, both 32, were charged with one count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor under 13. Maestas faced a drug charge after police accused him of possessing heroin.

According to arrest warrant affidavits, police accused the woman of holding down her then-8-year-old son while Maestas raped the boy.

Both the boy and his younger brother told workers with the state Children, Youth and Families Department in 2018 they had been molested by Maestas. Court documents said both boys had injuries consistent with sexual assault.

First Judicial District Attorney's Office spokesman Henry Varela said in an email the charges cannot be refiled.

“The child victim testified and denied sexual abuse and did not disclose any sexual abuse to the jury,” Varela said. “As a result, the judge issued a directed verdict and the defendants were acquitted of all charges.”

In an interview, the woman’s father said to “stay tuned,” regarding litigation against CYFD. The boys’ father could not be reached for comment.

A 2018 letter from CYFD to the mother recommended the father file for sole custody of the children after they said they were kicked and slapped by Maestas.

The letter said she “continuously minimized the disclosures of the children, and insisted Mr. Maestas did not harm [her] children in any way despite being shown photographs of [her] children’s injuries.”

Judge Jason Lidyard ordered Maestas’ release immediately, according to court documents. Maestas was in custody after violating his conditions of release, documents said.

The mother was not in custody before the trial. She has no criminal history in New Mexico.

Was this a case of children trying to get away from someone they didn't like? Was it a case of a very poorly handled case? Were the children intimidated into recanting? Who knows, but someone was mistreated here. Perhaps a lawsuit will sort that out.
