Outrage As Saudi Arabia Executes Indonesian Maid For Killing Boss While He Was Raping Her

An Indonesian maid identified as Tuti Tursilawati has been executed in Saudi Arabia
for killing her boss while he was raping her.

By Ngere Ify Davies

Mum-of-one, Tuti Tursilawati was executed after she killed her boss who was raping her, and this sparked outrage in Jakarta.

Tuti Tursilawati was killed on Monday in the city of Ta’if, a city in Saudi Arabia’s Mecca Province. The Saudi government failed to warn the maid’s family or consular staff before she was killed, said officials. Her execution has prompted protests from Indonesia.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo called Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Adel al-Jubeir, demanding to know why Jakarta had not been informed about Monday’s execution of Tuti Tursilawati.

It was the fourth time in three years that Saudi Arabia had failed to notify Jakarta before executing an Indonesian migrant worker.

Mr Widodo was quoted as saying by the office of his cabinet secretary:

We have called Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister and conveyed our protest.

The Saudi ambassador to Indonesia had been summoned to discuss the matter, the president added.

Indonesian advocacy group Migrant Care said in September that Ms Tuti Tursilawati had been defending herself from being raped.

Abidin Fikri, a member of Indonesia’s parliament, criticized the killing, saying:

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia has ignored principles of human rights,
including a right for everyone to live.

Ms Tursilawati was executed just a week after Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister al-Jubeir, met his Indonesian counterpart, Retno Marsudi, and Mr Widodo in Jakarta to discuss migrant workers’ rights. During the meeting, Mr Marsudi emphasised the importance of having a mandatory consular notification before carrying out death penalties.

Amnesty International Indonesia said that Saudi Arabia had damaged diplomatic ties and had behaved unethically following the execution of the mother-of-one.

Pedophile Given Harsher Sentence Because
Victims Were ‘Asian,’ Not White
Lionel Du Cane

A judge ruled that a West Yorkshire pedophile deserved a tougher sentence due to his victims being Asian–not white.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Jamal Muhammed Raheem Ul Nasir was convicted of two counts of sexual assault on a child under 13 and four counts of sexual activity with a child, which saw him jailed for four years by Leeds Crown Court.

Ul Nasir, 32, was found guilty of sex attacks on two young girls, committed in December 2014.

The Daily Telegraph reported that the “judge who jailed him, Sally Cahill QC, specifically said that the fact the victims were Asian had been factored in as an “aggravating feature” when passing sentence.”

The rationale behind the tougher sentencing was the particular “shame” suffered by the families of the victims with the Asian communities, due to the nature of the crimes committed against them.

Judge Cahill went onto say that there may be cultural concerns as their chances of a successful arranged marriage may be dampened as their image of being a “good catch” made be damaged.

However, due to the tougher sentencing, Ul Nasir, of Liversedge, West Yorkshire, had his lawyers argue at London’s Criminal Appeal Court against his lengthier prison sentence.

Mr Justice Walker, rejected the complaints, saying: “The victims’ fathers were concerned about the future marriage prospects for their daughters.

“Judge Cahill was having particular regard to the harm cause to the victims by this offending. That harm was aggravated by the impact on the victims and their families within this particular community.”

Two issues I would like to raise: 1) 4 years is a pathetic penalty for sexually assaulting 4 children, especially when the judge considered them as aggravated. 2) does this ruling not now encourage pedophiles to rape British girls as opposed to ethnic Asian children? Is there something slightly insane about that?

After the case, an NSPCC spokesman said: “British justice should operate on a level playing field and children need to be protected irrespective of cultural differences.

“Regardless of race, religion, or gender, every child deserves the right to be safe and protected from sexual abuse, and the courts must reflect this. It is vital that those who commit these hideous crimes are punished to the full limit of the law.”

Following from the ongoing grooming gang scandals, which have spanned several decades, rocking many UK towns, the bulk of the victims have been predominantly white British girls.

The authorities have been exposed in turning a blind eye to the industrial scale of the abuse across several councils.

The ethnic component (Pakistani Muslim) in the grooming gang scandal has been a feature which the authorities and press have desperately attempted to neglect or downplay.

But it appears that some victims are more equal than others.

'They will be believed': Victoria, BC PD asks
victims of sex trafficking ring to come forward
..
Officers suspect there are still victims who have not come forward

Bridgette Watson · CBC News

"People are living in fear, they are living in isolation, they are living in dependency and often shame
and guilt is involved," says VicPD Const. Cameron McIntyre. (Shutterstock / Yupa Watchanakit)

You will be heard and you will be helped.

That is the message the Victoria Police Department wants to share with anyone in their region who has been trafficked for sex work.

The department suspects there are victims in the region who have not come forward after Shawn Alexander Kelly, 23, Seyed Kourosh Miralinaghi, 19, Seyed Kamran Miralinaghi, 19, from Victoria and Shermineh Sheri Ziaee, 36, from Langford were charged with numerous human trafficking-related crimes in January.

VicPD spokesperson Const. Cameron McIntyre said the force's number one priority is to connect victims with support services and not to involve them in criminal investigations.

"These people will be heard. They will be listened to. They will be believed and there is no judgment on our end. We are just looking to help them and ensure their safety," said McIntyre Thursday on On The Island.

He said there is sometimes a misunderstanding that people think if they come to the police, they are automatically going to be involved in some criminal matter. McIntyre says victims will not need to press charges, or provide evidence in court, unless they want to.

"Our mentality is victim first. Arrests and charges and things like that come later, certainly with the help of the victim," he said.

Online luring on the rise

Ashley Franssen-Tingley, a spokesperson for the Canadian Centre to End Human Trafficking, said the largest at-risk age group is 18 to 25 but can be much younger and the majority of victims are female.

She said victims usually live in fear of their trafficker and without identification, money, or access to a phone, and while they can be recruited in person, traffickers are finding more and more of their targets through social media.

"We're definitely seeing a rise in grooming and luring online," said Franssen-Tingley.

According to Statistics Canada's latest figures, reports of the "most serious violation" of laws around human trafficking soared from a couple of dozen across the country in 2010 to 340 in 2016.

McIntyre said the crime is often unreported and undetected and for that reason it is difficult to know exactly how prevalent it is in particular regions.

Signs of a trafficked victim can include: isolation, secretive behaviour, unexplained clothing, jewellery or cash, always being accompanied by a controlling partner or having a new partner they will not introduce to people.

In a Feb. 20 media release, non-profit civic engagement organization CivicAction revealed findings from a survey of 1,500 randomly-selected Canadians about trafficking awareness.

The survey found 73 per cent of respondents believe sex trafficking starts with an abduction on the street and 47 per cent of those surveyed equate it with being kidnapped and forced to trade sex for money.

According to CivicAction, these are both common misconceptions and victims are often actually recruited by someone they know.

"Sex trafficking is hiding in plain sight and we need to better educate people on how to spot and stop it," said Tamara Balan, Interim CEO at CivicAction in a news release.

Anyone who has been a victim in the Victoria region can call the non-emergency line at the Victoria Police Department at (250) 995-7654. If people want to remain anonymous. McIntyre said they can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

McIntyre suggested if victims do not want to deal with police at all, they reach out to the Victoria Sexual Assault Centre or the Peers Victoria Resources Society.

The Salvation Army also runs a program called Deborah's Gate which includes a high-security safe house in a confidential B.C. location. The number for the program is 1-855-332-4283.

The Canadian Human Trafficking Hotline is 1-833-900-1010 nationwide and 24/7 confidential help is available in more than 200 languages.

'Depraved' murderer of British backpacker
jailed for life in N.Z.

The murderer of young British backpacker Grace Millane has been sentenced to life in prison and must serve a minimum of  17 years.

The young woman from Wickford, Essex had just started to travel the world after recently graduating from university when she was killed.

She went on a date with a 28-year-old man on December 1, 2018 while in New Zealand, and was killed either that night or in the early hours of the next morning - the date of her 22nd birthday.

Her body was later found buried in a shallow grave in a forested area outside Auckland.

CCTV shows Ms Millane and the defendant entering the hotel on December 1

Today Gillian Millane, her mother, directly addressed the killer in emotional court scenes.

"I want you to know I do not think of you, because if I did, that means I care about you and I simply don't," she told him, the BBC reported.

"The tears I shed are never-ending at the thought of never having the chance to kiss my Grace goodbye."

The mum said she needs weekly guidance counselling to deal with her daughter's death and sprayed her Grace's perfume to be reminded of her.

"Grace was never just a daughter, she was my friend, my very best friend," the New Zealand Herald reported. I will miss my darling Grace until my last breath."

The killer claimed Grace died accidentally during rough sex.

However, a jury of seven women and five men returned a unanimous verdict after just five hours deliberation at Auckland High Court.

Prosecutors said he strangled her and shoved her body inside a suitcase before burying her.

Today Crown prosecutor Brian Dickey said the killer "eroticised" the murder and took photos of her dead, naked body.

Grace was assumed missing and her father, David Millane, flew to New Zealand as local authorities spent a week searching until her body was found by police.

The man was first interviewed by police because he left a comment on one of Miss Millane's Facebook photos.

He claimed they went their separate ways after their date, but later admitted she was dead and denied murdering her.

He led police to the spot where he buried the British woman's body.

The man had used his mobile phone to search for "flesh-eating birds" and "are there vultures in New Zealand?".

He used Google to browse websites for large duffel bags, suitcases and car hire after Ms Millane died.

The killer buried Grace in a suitcase.

He had also searched online for "the hottest fire", "large bags near me" and "Waitakere Ranges".

Brisbane man charged after sex dolls with
child-like features found in his home

Two child-like sex dolls imported from China are among a collection of child-sex abuse material allegedly unearthed in a 44-year-old Brisbane man’s home.

The dolls, described by law enforcement agencies as “anatomically correct”, were part of a cache of shocking material allegedly found in the Riverhills man’s possession on January 25.

Australian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Lesa Gale said possession of such dolls became a criminal offence last September.

That’s after research by the Australian Institute of Criminology found the use of child-like sex dolls could lead to an escalation in child-sex offences – from viewing child abuse material online to “contact sexual offending”.

“These dolls are not harmless and do not prevent people from offending in the future,” Gale said.

“The Australian Federal Police will pursue any form of child exploitation or activity that reinforces the sexualisation of children. This includes sexual acts using items depicting children such as these dolls, which – are legally considered child exploitation material.”

The Brisbane man is the first person in Queensland to be charged under the new Commonwealth legislation, following an investigation launched by Queensland Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (JACET).

The investigation began after a child-like sex doll was detected in a shipment from China by Australian Border Force (ABF) on January 20. A search warrant was carried out in the Riverhills house where police allege a further two such dolls were found, along with a laptop and tablet containing child abuse material.

“This arrest should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can import this kind of abhorrent material, that the ABF and its partner agencies will stop you and bring you to justice,” said ABF Regional Commander for Queensland, Chris Waters.

The Brisbane man is due to face Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday. He is charged with two counts of possessing a child-like sex doll or other object that resembles a child (or part of a child) under 18, that a reasonable person would consider it likely that the doll was intended to be used to simulate sexual intercourse.

He has also been charged with one count of attempting to possess a child-like sex doll and one count of possessing child exploitation material.

The maximum penalty for the sex-doll offences is 15 years jail.
