Quesnel, B.C. man who sexually assaulted a teenager
with a weapon, won’t spend time in jail

George Henderson, My Cariboo Now

Prince George, B.C. courthouse

No jail time for a Quesnel man who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a teenager.

46-year old old George William Alexis was sentenced in provincial court to two years probation and also received a mandatory 10-year firearms prohibition.

Two other charges, sexual interference of a person under 16 and assault with a weapon, were stayed.

The charges are in connection with an incident back on the night of January 10th of this year.

Quesnel RCMP say a female youth was attacked in the alley by Malcolm Drive, but police say the man was interupted by another man who came to the girl’s aid.

A suspect was arrested the following day.

How often must I shake my head in disbelief at the absurd sentences handed down by Canadian judges? Sexual assault with a weapon, that might well have resulted in rape had someone not intervened, and the creep gets no jail time. OMG! The poor girl must feel really safe now walking around Quesnel.

Ex-local Ontario Federal Liberal candidate
facing child porn charges

'It's quite shocking for the community, I'm sure,'
said OPP Sgt. Jason Folz of charges against well-known Orillia man

By: Dave Dawson, Midland Today

Gerry Hawes, a long-time local Liberal Party insider who ran unsuccessfully in Simcoe North for Justin Trudeau's team in the last federal election, is facing child pornography charges.

"It's quite shocking for the community, I'm sure," said Sgt. Jason Folz, who heads up communications for the OPP's Central Region.

He said members of the OPP's Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, Digital Forensic Unit, and Orillia OPP Detachment Crime Unit arrested and charged Hawes following a four-month investigation into possession of child sexual abuse material.

On May 5, 2020 police executed a search warrant at a residence in Orillia. On June 11, Hawes was arrested and charged.

Hawes, 58, is charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

Folz said he could not provide any other information about this incident. Hawes did not return a call seeking comment. The accused is due to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia on Aug. 25, 2020.

The Ontario Provincial Police will continue to aggressively identify and pursue individuals who use technology to exploit children.

Maldives Police Commissioner seeks to detain alleged rapist of 11-year-old until end of trial

Such a request had not been made in five years

Mariyam Malsa, The Edition

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed, on Saturday, requested the Prosecutor General's Office to order that the suspect alleged to have raped an 11-year-old girl be detained until the end of his trial.

The request was lodged under the law concerning Special Procedures Against Child Sexual Offenders (12/2009). The police commissioner stated that such a request had not been made in five years.

The 38-year-old man was arrested on Friday in connection to the sexual abuse of an 11-year-old at a guesthouse located in the capital city of Male'. The case was initially reported on June 10.

Local media outlet Mihaaru reported that the Criminal Court had remanded the suspect for seven days.

According to the police, the victim has now been transferred to a safe environment and efforts to provide additional assistance in collaboration with relevant authorities are underway.

That sounds unfortunately tenuous - 'efforts to provide'. I hope they can do better than that.

Authorities have yet to confirm how the perpetrator was able to take the minor to a guesthouse amid the city-wide lockdown implemented in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

A similar incident was reported on May 28, which involved the sexual abuse of a 16-year-old at a guesthouse in Male'. According to the police, the victim was brought from another island by means of blackmail. A 28-year-old has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation of this case.

'I went to the police over my child abuse hell
but one officer wanted sex with me'

One UK Survivor's Harrowing Story
By Geraldine McKelvie, Mirror

A desperate abuse victim threw her trust into the hands of the police – only for one perverted officer to proposition her himself.

Scarlett Jones was one of the first brave women who told the Sunday Mirror of her hell at the hands of child sex predators in Telford, Shropshire.

Two years ago, she helped us reveal that up to 1,000 girls could have been targeted over four decades in a scandal which was also linked to five deaths.

Our investigation prompted the police probe Operation Vapour, and four men have so far been jailed for a total of 22 years for child sexual exploitation.

Now Scarlett’s heartbreaking story is laid bare in a devastating memoir, published by Mirror Books.

Scarlett – not her real name – reveals years of pain.

First there was relentless abuse from her father. Then, at 14, a sex predator targeted her.

He made her pregnant, paid someone to beat her up in a bid to force a miscarriage, and sold her to other men who raped her.

Scarlett says she tried to tell police 30 times about her ordeal but says her cries for help fell on deaf ears.

She says: “One officer was a total scumbag. He said, ‘You’re very pretty. Why don’t you come round and see me next week?

“I’ll give you my address. If the curtains are open, it’s fine, but if they’re shut, the wife’s there, so don’t bother’.

“I was 17 and he was far older. I was basically a child begging for help. Of course, I never did go to his house, but it reiterated that was all men wanted me for – if even the police saw me as a slag.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God. If I ring the police and that’s how they react, what’s the point?’ Other officers told me they couldn’t do anything because they couldn’t see any bruises on me. I had nowhere to turn.”

Scarlett’s heartbreaking story is laid bare in a devastating memoir

Scarlett, now in her 40s and a mother of five, had a heartbreaking childhood.

She was sexually abused by her dad from the age of eight and got little affection from her mum. Desperate to escape being raped at home, she began wandering the streets with a friend at night – and bumped into the Pakistani man who would wreak havoc on her life.

Scarlett says: “He told me I was pretty. No one had ever said that. He didn’t seem to care that I was just 14. He completely picked up on how vulnerable I was.

“But I think my dad caused the most damage. He primed me for everything that happened. Who knows what would have happened if I’d had a happy home life? When I met this man, I craved love. When he started raping me, I thought it was normal. I thought it was how all girls were treated because that’s what my dad did to me.”

In months, Scarlett was pregnant. She was told to leave school by her headteacher, who said she was setting a bad example. Her furious abuser questioned whether the baby was his and insisted she have an abortion.

He drove her to a Birmingham clinic, but distraught Scarlett could not go through with it and tearfully asked the nurse not to operate.

The abuser then paid a woman in her 20s to batter Scarlett in the hope it would prompt a miscarriage.

Scarlett adds: “I felt a punch to the back of my head, then someone had me on the ground and was beating me. I was kicked and punched on my face, on my back, but mostly on my stomach.

“I tried to protect my belly and was terrified this person had hurt my baby. I was in shock and, to this day, have no idea how I got home. It tells you everything you need to know about my home life that I just went to bed.

“My face was black and blue. My eye was caked with blood. I couldn’t say what happened because I didn’t trust anybody in my family.”

The woman was convicted of assault but told a court she battered Scarlett because she thought she was having an affair with her husband.

Things only got worse after Scarlett, then 15, gave birth to her son. Her abuser began to sell her to other Pakistani men, while continuing his terrifying campaign of violence.

She says: “I lost count of how many men he forced me to have sex with. It was only later I realised he was being paid but I never got a penny.”

The man also unleashed a merciless campaign of physical abuse. But Scarlett says that when she tried to tell the police, little was done.

And when she confided in her GP he suggested she was mentally ill.

Scarlett tried to prevent the abuser seeing his child. But her mum took his side and a judge granted access.

The child was with Scarlett’s mum during the week. Scarlett had the boy at weekends but had to take him to a contact centre – sitting opposite the rapist she was trying to escape.

She recalls: “My abuser said I was a druggie and a prostitute, but he was the one selling me to be raped.

“He said that he was terrified for his son’s welfare. I tried to protest, but I wasn’t allowed to speak. I wanted to scream, ‘They’ve taken my baby, you don’t understand what he’s doing to me’. The judge told me I’d go to prison if I wasn’t quiet.”

The man eventually lost interest in seeing the child – and, slowly, released his grip on Scarlett’s life. It would be many years before she saw any kind of justice.

In 2014, her dad was finally convicted of abusing her and her sister. She had to give evidence against him three times as his first two trials collapsed for legal reasons. He was jailed for 15 years.

Scarlett decided she didn’t want to go through another criminal investigation into the grooming and abuse from her baby’s dad and his friends. But she has given evidence to the public inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Telford – prompted by the Sunday Mirror’s exposé of abuse and trafficking.

Specialist child abuser lawyer Dino Nocivelli, of Bolt Burdon Kemp, said: “Child sexual exploitation is a national issue. We have seen this in towns around the country. Often, survivors are let down by institutions which are supposed to help.”

Scarlett she has at times struggled to show her children the affection she craved as a child. But, incredibly, she has forgiven her mum for siding with her abuser in the custody battle.

She also helped set up The Holly Project – a service for adult survivors of child sexual exploitation in Telford.

Scarlett says: “Life is too short to hold grudges. I just want everyone who has information about abuse to come forward to the inquiry so we stop this happening to other girls.”

Chief Supt Tom Harding, for West Mercia Police, said: “These are incredibly serious allegations that today would amount to a serious criminal offence. We’re committed to ensuring survivors receive justice, regardless of when the offence took place.”

Victim of Malaysian pedophiles describes life as hellish

Another Survivor's Sad Story

KANGAR (Bernama): The emotional pressure that a victim of a pedophile has is akin to living in hell, that is the cry of a private sector worker who wants to be known as 'Man'.

Man, 35, said the dark clouds began to hang over him about 26 years ago when he became a sex object of his female cousin he was living with.

"At the time, I didn't suspect anything when she asked that we slept together," he said awkwardly when met by Bernama recently.

He said episodes of being a victim of a pedophile did not stop there as he was often singled out to become the object of non-consensual sex since his school right to his university days.

Recalling the horrible experiences he went through, the third of five siblings said that when he was in standard three he once again became a victim of adult sexual gratification.

"I decided to keep mum and not share it with my family for fear of my own safety, due to the threats from the perpetrators, ” he said.

Man said at first he thought the dark clouds would pass when he received an offer to enroll in a full boarding school but as it turned out, he ended being his seniors’ object of bullying and sexual gratification.

"The pressure sometimes made me look for the easy way out, by taking my own life, but then I thought about my mother. I couldn’t bear to add sufferings to my mother, who is a single parent, ” he said.

Man said he became a sex victim yet again when he continued his studies at an institute of higher learning. "This time I get paid for fulfilling sexual desires. It was fun at first as I had pocket money, but I realised I couldn’t let myself be a sexual object and must put a stop to it, ” he said.

When Man joined the work force and tied the knot, he was finally free and was able to lead a normal life.

"I am grateful to be able to come out of this depth of humiliation, despite having to go through it alone. My advice to families and victims of pedophiles is to lodge police reports and not be shy, because if they don’t, these child sex offenders will continue to ruin their children’s future, ” said Man who is expecting his first child soon.

Meanwhile, Perlis police chief Datuk Surina Saad advised the family of victims of pedophiles to report to the police immediately and not allow child sexual abuse and crimes to continue.

"This crime (pedophilia) can only be prevented if family members and the community come together and report on incidents happening around them. Making a police report does not mean they are being busybodies instead they will ensure the safety of everyone," she said.

Surina said it was an offence for family members to cover up these abusive activities and to have the perpetrator of the crime free to repeat the act.

She said the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 was there for the public to make a police report on the crime and a victim's confession was sufficient to drag the suspect to court.

"The complainant does not need any witnesses or any supporting documents or videos to charge the offender," she said.

She said the act would allow the victims to tell the incident in a safe manner, either by giving the testimony behind the veil or via video footage because most victims were traumatised and unable to speak.

Surina said police through the Criminal Investigation Department, the Sexual Investigation Division (D11) will assign a psychologist to counsel and help the victim relay the incident.

She said that among the efforts of unit D11 to prevent the crime was to give talks to the public, especially parents so that they would be well-informed about the offence.

"Guardians can also be subject to legal action if they are sexually abusive to children even on the basis of love," she said.

She said among the most common sexual offences committed by pedophiles were sodomy, sex with children under the age of 13 and using children as objects of sexual desire and sexual abuse.

Darwin man, 56, accused of sharing
child abuse material online

This is a joint release between Australian Federal Police and Northern Territory Police

A 56-year-old man is expected to face Darwin Local Court today (Monday, 15 June) over allegations he accessed and shared child abuse material online.

The Australian Federal Police’s Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE) triage unit launched an investigation after a report from the United States’ National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).

It alleged an Australian internet user was transmitting child abuse material via social media. Inquiries identified a 56-year-old Darwin man as the person suspected of transmitting the material.

The matter was referred to the Northern Territory Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team (NT JACET) and on Friday, 12 June, police executed search warrants and seized mobile telephones, an external hard disk drive and laptop computer from the man.

Police will allege a preliminary search of the devices found online communications relating to child abuse material.

The man has been charged with five offences:
One count of possession of child abuse material, contrary to section 125B of the Criminal Code Act 1983 (NT). This carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment;
Four counts of transmitting child abuse material, contrary to section 474.22 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth). This offence carries a maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment.
A detailed digital forensic examination is ongoing.

Australian Federal Police Child Protection Operations Detective Superintendent Paula Hudson said the demand for abhorrent content online drives the exploitation and abuse of real children.

“Alarmingly the appetite for child exploitation material is increasing and somewhere in the world innocent young children are harmed to satisfy those depraved criminal demands,” Detective Superintendent Paula Hudson said.

You would think a 'Darwin' man would have evolved beyond uncontrollable, animalistic instincts. Sorry, I need some humour, as pathetic as it is, occasionally, in order to preserve what is left of my sanity.

“We want to assure that public that the COVID pandemic lockdowns have not stopped our relentless pursuit of anyone involved in the abuse of children, whether online or elsewhere.”

NT Police Detective Sergeant Paul Lawson said the Northern Territory Police and the Australian Federal Police will continue to target those who commit these offences and believe that they can hide behind the anonymity of the internet.

“We will continue to work in partnership to keep all our children safe,” he said.

The AFP-led ACCCE, which is headquartered in Brisbane, is committed to stopping child exploitation and abuse and is at the centre of a collaborative national approach to combatting organised child abuse.

It brings together specialist expertise and skills in a central hub, supporting investigations into child sexual abuse and developing prevention strategies focused on creating a safer online environment.

Members of the public who have any information about people involved in child abuse and exploitation are urged to call Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.

You can also make a report online by alerting the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation via the Report Abuse button at www.accce.gov.au/report.
