Child sexual exploitation investigation leads to arrest in Columbia County, Ga
APPLING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A Columbia County man has been arrested in a state investigation pertaining to the online sexual exploitation of children.
On Friday, agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, assisted by other departments, executed multiple search warrants in Columbia and Richmond counties, including one at the home of Mark Christopher Greene in Appling, according to authorities.
The search warrants were related to an investigation pertaining to the online sexual exploitation of children. The investigation began after receiving multiple cybertips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children related to child sexual abuse images.
As a result of the investigation, Greene was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of child pornography and three counts of distribution of child pornography, according to authorities. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
Greene was booked into Columbia County jail. This investigation is part of the ongoing effort to identify those involved in the child pornography trade.
The ICAC Program, created by the U. S. Department of Justice, was developed in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet, the increase of child pornography, and the heightened online activity by predators searching for unsupervised contact with underage victims.

Fruitland, Ore, man changes plea for child sex abuse charge
The Argus Observer BOISE — Following a change of plea, a Fruitland man will avoid a court date for a felony charge of enticing minors through the Internet.
Shawn Reber, born in 1992 and from Fruitland, entered a guilty plea on Wednesday for one charge of enticing a minor through the Internet, video image or other communication device in front of Ada County District Judge James S. Cawthon.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.
Reber had originally pleaded not guilty on Jan. 2.
He, along with eight other Idaho men, was arrested on Nov. 25, 2019 as part of a joint operation that targeted child sexual abuse in the Treasure Valley.
Okaloosa Co., Fla, woman fails to report child sex abuse because of drug use
by WEAROKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR-TV) — An Okaloosa County woman is arrested after she failed to report sexual abuse of a child back while she was living in Tennessee, deputies report.
Samantha Leigh Cockrell, 32, is charged with failure to report suspected child abuse.
The report states sometime between 2017 and 2019, while riding in the backseat of Cockrell’s car, a male friend of Cockrell moved the victim’s clothing to the side and took photos of her genitals on his cell phone.
The victim told Cockrell of the incident soon after it happened, the report states. Cockrell says she confronted the male friend and saw the photos on his phone but did not report the incident to law enforcement because she was using drugs at the time and did not want to lose her children.
Cockrell was arrested Saturday and taken to Okaloosa County Jail.

Casper, Wyo, man pleads not guilty to child sexual abuse
A Casper man pleaded not guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a minor during his arraignment in Natrona County District Court on Wednesday.
Austin Barba, born in 1997, entered the pleas to one count each of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor during his court appearance before Judge Catherine Wilking, District Attorney Dan Itzen said.
Barba appeared for the arraignment after being bound over from circuit court, which did not happen until after he had a mental evaluation.
If convicted, first-degree sexual abuse of a minor is punishable by up to 50 years in prison and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, Itzen said.
The case started in December 2017 when a Casper police officer received a report from the Wyoming Department of Family Services and by a therapist with the Central Wyoming Counseling Center about a girl born in 2009 had been molested by a man who had put his penis in her mouth.
The officer interviewed the girl at the Children's Advocacy Project in Casper and she described the alleged abuse.
The officer interviewed Barba in January 2018 who said he believed he was asleep at the time the event could have occurred. The officer also noted Barba "was nervous and sweating profusely."
However, circumstances prevented the officer could not collect any photographic or biological evidence. The affidavit of probable cause did not state why the warrant for Barba's arrest was requested in June 2018, but was not executed until February.
Sandown, NH, man charged with having
child sex abuse images

DERRY — A Sandown man, 46, is facing 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse images, according to an announcement Thursday from Derry police.
Raymond Ouellette, of 30 Compromise Lane, surrendered to police June 5 after learning of a warrant for his arrest, police said.
Detectives said they began to investigate Ouellette after a cyber-tip to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, of which the Derry department is affiliated.
Derry credits Sandown police and several other Task Force members with aiding in the investigation.
Additional charges against Ouellette may be forthcoming, according to Derry police.
Ouellette was released on a $5,000 bond and given court date of Aug. 6.
Police did not release details of Ouellette's alleged crimes.
Williamston, SC, man arrested for four counts of child sexual abuse material charges
Jennifer LindmanSOUTH CAROLINA (FOX Carolina) -- South Carolina Attorney General Wilson has announced the arrest of a Williamston area man for child sex abuse material charges.
Michael Wayne Quick, 35, of Williamston has been arrested on four charges of sexual exploitation of a minor.
Several departments assisted in the arrest including Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, Attorney General's Office, Homeland Security and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
Upon investigation, officials say that Quick distributed multiple files of child sex abuse material. He was taken into custody on June 11. This case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.
Dryden, NY, man arrested on more child sexual
abuse charges in Cortland County
A Dryden man was charged Friday with new sex crimes against a child in Cortland County, just one day after he was jailed on similar accusations.
The Cortland County Sheriff's Office said Anthony C. Woods, 41, is accused of sexual acts against a victim — the two are not strangers — on several occasions during the summer of 2019.
Woods was charged Friday with felony counts of predatory sexual assault against a child and first-degree criminal sexual act. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
At the time of Friday's arrest, Woods was already in Cortland County's jail after police in the City of Cortland had arrested him on similar charges. He has listed residency on Game Farm Road in Dryden, Tompkins County, as well as on Route 13 in Cortland County.
The City of Cortland Police Department said Thursday that Woods also allegedly sexually assaulted a victim at a Pendleton Street location in Cortland. Further details of the investigation were not released.
Woods was awaiting arraignment Friday on the latest set of charges. If convicted of the most serious count, predatory sexual assault, he could face 10 years to life in prison.
Grand Island, Neb, man sentenced for receipt of child pornography
By KSNBLINCOLN, Neb. - A Grand Island man will spend time in prison after being convicted of receipt of child pornography.
U.S. Attorney Joe Kelly announced that Steven G. Peterson, 41, was sentenced to 90 months (7.5 years) in prison and 5 years of supervised release with special conditions, to be concurrent with the undischarged term imposed in Count I of the Superseding Indictment.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender and pay $4,000 in restitution. There is no parole in the federal system.
On April 24, 2018, a search and seizure warrant was executed at Peterson's home in Grand Island for any electronic devices that may contain child pornography.
Numerous devices were seized. A forensic examination of the devices were performed and three devices belonging to Peterson were found to contain child exploitive material. Those devices were a laptop computer, a tablet and a phone.
More than 591 image files and six videos containing child pornography were found on the computer. Those files included content portraying the sexual abuse and exploitation of infants and toddlers.
The U.S. Attorney's office said around 328 child exploitive material were found on the tablet. The material on the tablet included videos portraying sadistic sexually explicit acts involving teenagers as well as photos of children as young as three engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The items on the phone portrayed children as young as infants engaged in sexually explicit conduct. There were approximately 53 images and six videos on the phone.
This case was investigated by Grand Island Police.
It was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice.
