Kitchener, Ont. woman gets four years for role in kidnap, torture and prostitution of teen girl

KITCHENER -- A Kitchener, Ont. woman was sentenced Thursday morning to four years in prison for kidnapping, torturing and prostituting a teenage girl.
Lindsay Rye, 20, pleaded guilty at the end of the January to several charges, including assault and making child pornography as she took part in a prostitution ring.
"The facts are so bad. It's basically denunciation, you can't get around the facts in a case like this," her defence lawyer, Hal Mattson, told CTV Kitchener after the sentencing. "No matter how much the person is a good person, she made a huge mistake that resulted in very serious matters happening. You can't get around that."
During the submissions, the Crown noted that Rye was cold and calculating in her acts.
The agreed statement of facts from January stated that Rye kidnapped a 15-year-old, who Rye accused of stealing money. Rye, two men and another teen tortured the victim, who was also raped.
Court had heard that Rye schemed to enslave the victim to get the money back. She advertised the victim's sexual services and drove the teen to meet with men.
It was during a last visit to a London hotel, court heard, that the 15-year-old victim escaped to call her mother.
Mattson said that the Rye was a victim herself as a teenager caught up in the sex trade; the incident with the 15-year-old had happened right after Rye turned 18.
"They get into this lifestyle and they're making thousands of dollars a week, and they're going to parties and people are taking them in limos places and they're showing them respect actually. Because they're young, they think these people love them. They don't love them, they're using them," he said.
"So it's difficult to get out of when you go home and your parents tell you to wash the dishes or be in bed by 9 o' clock. Like the judge said, when you're young like that, the lifestyle can seem like a lot of fun and it's really hard to get out of unless you have unbelievable support at home."
Rye apologized in court on Thursday. Because of public health measures put in place in the courtrooms due to COVID-19, including several pieces of Plexiglas between her and the judge, Mattson had to repeat Rye's apology so the judge could hear it.
Originally set to be sentenced in April, Rye's sentencing was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sentencing on Thursday came as part of a joint submission by the defense and the Crown.
4 years! What a horrible joke Canada's Justice System is. Good grief! She will probably be out next week when the girl is still a teen. No indication of her being labelled a sex offender.
London monster raped schoolgirl weekly for five years
and she had to have abortion twice
A monstrous child abuser admitted to raping a schoolgirl over a five year period and getting her pregnant twice.
Adrian Donaldson, 37, was jailed for 20 years after he repeatedly raped the young girl, who was known to him, from the age of 12.
She fell pregnant with his child twice during 2017 and 2018 but had an abortion both times and told her mum she fell pregnant by her boyfriend at school.
Donaldson, from Tottenham, was jailed for 20 years at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday.
He admitted seven counts of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
DS Gill Cousins, of the North Area Basic Command Unit, said: “This is a horrific crime and the victim was subjected to a horrendous ordeal. The effects of these crimes on the victim will undoubtedly remain with her forever. I commend the bravery the victim has shown to help us bring this man to justice."
The horrific assaults took place between January 2015 and January 2020 at an address in Tottenham. Donaldson would rape the girl two to three times a week after he had been drinking alcohol and taking drugs.
He would also call the victim, ask her to send nude photos and ask her to visit him before he would make her strip naked and rape her.
The abuser told the girl not to tell anyone about the rapes of he would accuse her of coming onto him which led her to feel suicidal and unable to come forward.
On January 25, police were called by the girl's mother after she found out about the rapes and pregnancies.
Officers went to Donaldson's address and found him drunk and trying to engage in sexual activity with the victim.
He was arrested for sexual assault by touching a female under 18.
In interview, Donaldson denied all allegations and stated that it was fabricated.
The victim was also interviewed and supported by specialist officers.
Donaldson was then arrested further for multiple counts of rape and causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent.
DS Cousins said: “I urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault either recently or historically to come forward and speak with police."
In the thousands of stories I have done on this blog over many years, threats are almost never carried out. They are just a means of controlling you. Your predator is more scared of you telling someone than you are of the predator. You have power; but you must use it or continue to be under his/her control.

Man who raped boy in toilets at shopping centre in Cheltenham, UK, is jailed
A 49-year-old man who raped a boy in the public toilets of a shopping arcade in Cheltenham last November was jailed for 14 years today.
Andrew Roberts of Bath Road, Cheltenham, had denied raping the 13 year old but was found guilty by a jury at Bristol Crown Court last month.
He did admit engaging in sexual activity with the boy.
At sentencing, Judge Euan Ambrose told Roberts: “The jury panel rejected your version of events and your submission that you had misread the situation. You still maintain this position - a highly implausible account of what happened, in which you state that you were not the instigator of the sexual activity but the victim."
The judge said Roberts had since showed some remorse and pointed out the incident has had a lasting effect on the boy and his family.
The court was told that Roberts had been at the Regent Arcade shopping centre in Cheltenham when he picked on the young teenager in the gents' toilets. He assaulted the boy in a cubicle and only allowed him to leave when other people had left the toilets.
The boy rang his mother straight away. Roberts was subsequently arrested by police after they carried out their enquiries.
Judge Ambrose told Roberts: “In my mind you are dangerous and an extended sentence is necessary. You will serve a custodial sentence of 14 years and be imprisoned for at least nine years before you are considered for parole."
The judge also imposed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order on Roberts and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge.
Turkish Muslim preacher accused of child sexual abuse
facing 55 years in prison
Ahval
Duplicated on my other blog (2nd story).
Turkish prosecutors are demanding up to 55-years in prison for the leader of a religious order accused of sexually abusing a child, Birgün newspaper reported on Saturday.
Prosecutors in the country’s northwestern province of Sakarya are calling for the sentence against Fatih Nurullah (né Eyüp Fatih Şağban), the leader of the Uşşaki Islamic order, who is accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in the Akyazı district.
Nurullah was arrested on Wednesday following a complaint filed by the child’s family with authorities, which sparked a gendarmerie led raid on the group’s premises in Sakarya on Aug. 27.
Opposition news outlet Oda TV, in a report following his arrest which has since been banned by court order, published voice recordings of the cleric allegedly admitting to sexually abusing the child.
The four-page indictment submitted to Sakarya Chief Public Prosecutor’s office accuses the 58-year-old cleric of crimes, including successive sexual abuse of a child and denying an individual their freedom for the purpose of sexual abuse.
The ban on OdaTV’s report on the matter was extended to cover all news stories mentioning Nurullah and the case.
Of course, such things never happen in Islam. Pfft!
The Uşşaki group is a branch of the Khalwatiyya Sufi order founded by 15th century Islamic scholar Sayyid Hasan Husameddin.

The NSPCC says online sex crime has doubled in the past year
The internet groomers and online sex offenders brought to justice in Devon
By Paul Greaves
Devon Live
Online sex offences against children have doubled in Devon and Cornwall in the past 12 months, latest figures show.
Police logged 52 crimes during 2019/20 - a massive rise on the previous year’s figure of 26.
Remember, in the UK only 15% of violent sexual assault is reported to police.
Data obtained by the NSPCC includes crimes that had a cyber element such as grooming, sexual assault and rape. It takes the total number of recorded offences in the five years to 1,575 offences in the wider South West region.
The NSPCC says this figure is likely to significantly understate the true extent of the problem due to potential under-recording by police forces.
The charity says there is an urgent need for the Government to push forward with the Online Harms Bill, which would place a legal Duty of Care on tech firms to protect children, enforced by an independent regulator.
Exeter Crown Court regularly deals with offenders convicted of possessing online child abuse images. These offenders commit crimes against children - even though they have no direct physical contact with them.
As resident judge Peter Johnson told a recent offender: "These are not victimless crimes. These are real human beings who are being subjected to the most appalling abuse." Downloading images of child abuse fuels the underground market for the sick crimes.
Other cyber offenders use the internet to try and meet children. Often they attempt to form relationships in chatrooms and groom their potential victims.
Here DevonLive looks at some of the most recent cases involving cyber child abuse.
Egypt: Psychiatrist remanded for attempts to kiss, hug
female patients as remedy
Also: Egypt appears to be addressing some serious child sexual abuse cases

Cairo: Prosecutors in an Egyptian Delta city ordered a psychiatrist remanded over alleged physical and verbal abuses of female patients, legal sources said Sunday, amid a heightened crackdown in the country on sex assaults.
The psychiatrist, whose name was not disclosed, was arrested and interrogated after several women had filed legal complaints, accusing him of abusing them during treatment sessions inside his clinic in the city of Tanta.
The prosecutors ordered his remand for four days pending further questioning, the sources added.
Local media reported that the man had repeatedly attempted to kiss and hug the women during the sessions, claiming that his approach was part of an innovative remedy method.
Remedy for what?
He had allegedly asked them to give him their personal photos and attempted to convince them of involvement in immoral acts as part of treatment.
In investigations, the psychiatrist denied the accusations, claiming he is the victim of a systematic distortion campaign and blackmailing from rivals.
The case comes as Egyptian authorities are investigating another high-profile case related to an alleged gang rape of a girl inside a luxury hotel in Cairo more than six years ago.
In a separate case, a young Egyptian is set to stand a criminal trial on charges of sexually assaulting and blackmailing three underage girls. The defendant has recently been at the centre of online accusations of alleged mass sex assaults.
Notorious N.Z. art-dealing paedophile released from jail
while still a high risk to re-offend
Tom Hunt, Stuff
A notorious lower North Island paedophile, whose offending included depraved acts on boys as young as 8 years old and is deemed at high risk of reoffending, has been released from jail.
The Parole Board has confirmed Aaron Paul Laurence, 46, was released from prison on September 1 with a long list of conditions he must adhere to.
According to the decision, he attended a child sex offender course in 2019 but was still deemed by a psychologist as being at “high risk” of reoffending. By the time he appeared before the board on August 18, his risk was deemed on the “high side”.
However, in its decision the board said it was satisfied his release conditions would be adequate.
Because paedophiles are so good at adhering to legal expectations!!!
Laurence, who once owned an art gallery on Wellington's Lambton Quay called the Aaron Laurence Gallery, pleaded guilty in 2012 to 65 charges of abuse, including the rape of young boys and the production and distribution of footage of their ordeals.
The Parole decision noted he would befriend victims and lure them to his home for video games and give rewards such as cigarettes and cannabis.
“They were then abused and the results recorded on video and promulgated.”
During his trial, Stuff reported police found his stash of child pornography hidden in a mire of computer encryptions and passwords. More than 31,000 images and videos were found.
Laurence was jailed for 12 years and nine months in 2012.
A local artist, who asked not to be named, in 2012 told Stuff that Laurence was "always talking about his sexual prowess. He was always a dodgy geezer. He seemed pretty immoral every time you hung out with him. He wasn't exactly someone you wanted to spend extended lengths of time with."
Laurence's prolific offending finally ended when he was caught by police in an online sting in July 2011. A detective was able to monitor an internet chat involving Laurence. The next day, police observed Laurence making statements that he had abused boys and had images available to download.
The police summary of facts said Laurence sexually abused eight victims, electronically recording his exploits. "In many instances these boys did not know they were being filmed as the camera was hidden, or they were filmed and abused when they were asleep."
Laurence would target vulnerable children and groom victims, the summary said.
The list of parole conditions includes that he not enter Taranaki or Nelson without permission, that he lived in an approved home, and that he agreed to electronic monitoring. He could leave his approved accommodation between 6am and 1pm.
Paedophile sexually abused children - using the promise of a games console to lure one and TV shows to distract another
Manchester Evening News
A paedophile who sexually abused two children used the offer of a dart board and a games console to lure one - and children's TV shows to distract another.
Years after the abuse, John Nardai, now 55, has faced justice. He has been jailed for nine years.
A boy in the recent case was under 13 when the abuse happened in the 1990s.
Nardai told the boy he could use his dart board or games console if he pulled his trousers and underwear down. He would then smack the boy on the bottom.
When he reported the incidents to the police as an adult, the victim said Nardai did this on more than 30 occasions. In a statement read by prosecutor David Bentley, the man said the abuse has left him with low confidence.
Nardai's second victim was a girl. She was under the age of seven when Nardai abused her.
Nardai told her they were 'going to play a game' before he assaulted her. He told her to 'keep quiet'. Nardai would put on children's TV shows, including Sooty and Sweep, to 'distract' her, the court was told.
The girl told a teacher about the abuse, but she felt she wouldn't be believed. Nardai was charged when the girl grew up.
Describing the abuse, she said: "I just thought it was normal by that point. As a child I just thought it was normal."
Addressing Nardai in a statement read to the court, she said: "You haven't beaten us - and you never will. I hope one day you feel remorse for your actions."
Interviewed by police, Nardai claimed he couldn't remember what happened.
In 2017, Nardai was jailed for nine years for sexual abuse of a girl, which happened after the abuse he subjected the two other children to.
Defending, Mark Friend said Nardai had pleaded guilty and shown remorse. He said there had been a gap in Nardai's offending, until he was prosecuted for the historic offences.
Telling Nardai he is a 'paedophile', Judge Bernadette Baxter handed down another nine year sentence.
"There were elements of grooming behaviour," the judge said. "You wouldn't let him play with the dart board or your games console until he co-operated with your perversions". The judge said Nardai had also used children's TV to 'distract' the girl.
"It must be obvious to you and to anybody else listening, these are extremely serious offences for which only immediate imprisonment is the appropriate sanction," the judge continued.
Nardai admitted 10 counts of indecent assault. He will only be released when the Parole Board deem it is safe to do so, and he will be subject to an additional year of licence conditions.
