Eight men are facing charges in Rhode Island for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old unconscious girl at a party — after the girl’s mother found footage of the attack on Facebook and shared it with detectives, according to a report.
The teen told detectives in Providence she awoke in an apartment on Dec. 20 with vaginal pain and cuts on her thighs, police and court records obtained by the Boston Globe show.
She told police she could remember being naked in a bathroom shower, with roughly 15 men laughing at her while possibly taking photos before she recalled being taken into a bedroom. However, she was unconscious during the alleged assault.
The girl went to police later that day, but she was only able to provide the first names of some of the men, including two who brought her to the party, the Globe reports — hampering the investigation.
But a Facebook video surfaced in June showing the girl naked and unconscious on a bed as men victimized her and others looked on, the newspaper reports.
“The video was more than enough to see the crime and identify the culprits,” Providence Police Major David Lapatin told the newspaper. “It is sickening to see it. It was tough on the investigators. They did a really good job.”
The girl’s mother was alerted to the video and was the one who shared it with detectives, Lapatin told The Post early Wednesday.
“It obviously moved our case right along,” Lapatin said. “That’s when it really picked up steam and we were able to identify many suspects from the video and shortly thereafter, arrests were made.”
Detectives got warrants for eight men who were allegedly in the room with the teen and police arrested seven suspects late last week, the Globe reports.
One suspect, Carlos Vasquez, 19, of Providence, is still being sought as of early Wednesday on charges of assault with intent to commit first-degree sexual assault on a person who was mentally incapacitated and conspiracy, Lapatin said.
One of the men arrested, Richard Tarell Chester, 20, of Seekonk, Massachusetts, has been charged with first-degree sexual assault on a person who was mentally incapacitated and conspiracy.
Chester — who reportedly told the girl to leave the apartment when she woke up — was allegedly seen raping the teen on the video, according to an affidavit in support of a search warrant cited by the Globe.
Chester is being held without bail in Rhode Island. The other seven men charged in the attack have been charged with assault with intent to commit first-degree sexual assault on a person who was mentally incapacitated, and conspiracy.
They were identified by the Globe as Luis Cabrera, 19, Jose Vargas, 19, Erving Keith Colon, 25, Malcom Baptista, 19, Luis N. Luna, 19, and Carlos Chicon, 20, all of Providence. They have been arraigned, but no pleas were entered, the Globe reports.
Attorneys for Vargas, Luna and Cabrera could not be reached for comment Tuesday, while no information for lawyers for Colon, Baptista or Chicon was listed. Chester, meanwhile, was referred to a public defender’s office for legal representation, according to the Globe.
As for the teen, Lapatin said she has recovered from the attack.
“She’s in a safe place and she’s doing OK,” Lapatin told The Post.
Zephyrhills, Fla. Man Sentenced To 150 Years For Sexually Exploiting
Multiple Young Children
Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza today sentenced Edgar Johan Diaz-Colon (34, Zephyrhills) to 150 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting children. Diaz-Colon had pleaded guilty on April 22, 2020.
According to court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, in 2018 and 2019, Diaz-Colon sexually abused three young children. Two of the victims (who were then six and seven years old) lived near Diaz-Colon, and he lured them to the studio where he was staying. There, on multiple occasions, he repeatedly raped the children and forced them to perform sex acts on him. Diaz-Colon video-recorded some of those incidents. He also hit at least one of the children with a belt and taped her mouth shut when she cried for help. Diaz-Colon threatened to kill the child if she told her parents about his abuse.
The third victim was three years old when Diaz-Colon had abused her. In at least one instance, he video-recorded himself molesting the child.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Sanford Police Department, and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Emily C. L. Chang.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Elizabeth Smart calls for child sex doll ban after horrified Florida mom finds daughter's pic was used for one
Terri had found out about the horror after she was contacted by her friend the month prior on August 12, who had told her about the Amazon item that looks a lot like Terri's daughter available for $599
By Anoush Gomes
A mother in Florida is in shock and disbelief after she found an image identical to her daughter, a minor at the age of 8, on Amazon for $599. The image that was stolen was turned into a child sex doll. Daily Mail reported that the mom who wishes to be only identified as Terri said, "I saw it and started to cry uncontrollably," asking for child sex dolls to be banned.
Terri had found out about the horror after she was contacted by her friend the month prior (August 12) who had told her about the Amazon item that looks a lot like Terri's daughter. The picture that was turned into the sex doll had been stolen from a Facebook group where it was posted. The listing of the sex doll on Amazon featured an image of the doll that according to Daily Mail, "appeared to recreate the photo of the little girl sitting on the couch with her stuffed animal." It was revealed that the image on the site had socks that resemble that of her daughters, along with sporting the same pose as well. The site listed this item "high-quality sexy dolly live dolls for men."
"'She had that same sweatshirt and facial features as that image, even the same stuffed animal!," said Terri according to the publication. "I asked myself how can this be legal in the United States?" Terri had told Child Rescue Coalition, "I read the message from my friend and saw the image, and I instantly started to cry uncontrollably. I couldn't imagine that some sicko would use my daughter's photo to create something so ugly and evil to be used for abuse by pedophiles."
There is no question that there are numberless perverts who would do things so evil most of us could not imagine. The makers of this doll should be found and put away for a very long time. Unfortunately, I doubt that there are laws in America that deal with this.
An article by the Coalition, which is an organization that works against child sex abuse and predators titled Terri's story, 'A Mother's Story: Daughters' Photo Stolen & Likeness Turned Into Child Sex Doll.' It is written in Terri's words and even has the image and product image in its contents. Terri revealed that she had discovered that the doll has been online since November 2019 and decided to reach out to Amazon. It had taken four days to get the item removed from the site before she was subjected to messages that alerted her that the item was being sold on other internet stores as well.
With the help of the Coalition, and Glen Pounder, it's CEO, a petition was created to encourage the ban of child sex dolls. The petition titled, 'Make The Sale Of Child Sex Dolls In The United States Illegal,' currently has 97,703 signatures. "Let’s demand that this bill be passed or a new legislation be written TODAY to outlaw these types of dolls forever in the United States. Protect ... every child like her in the United States, and please sign and share this petition," urged the causes' supporters. It also explained the consequences of sex dolls especially when it comes to pedophilia asking users if they knew "child predators can go online and purchase life-like child sex dolls to act out their sexual fantasies of raping children?"
"I want a new federal law to charge these buyers as sex offenders. I want the people that create these dolls banned from selling them in the United States, and charged and fined," Terri said.
This traumatizing incident caught the attention of Elizabeth Smart, who took to Instagram asking her followers to sign the petition that called for the ban of sex dolls. Smart is a child abuse survivor turned advocate who had made news in 2002 when she was kidnapped at knifepoint at the age of 14 when in her bedroom in Utah. Smart, who was held captive for nine months was sexually abused by her kidnappers Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Ileen Barzee. In the video, Smart says, "This is not OK!!! Go check out right now, follow the link in their bio and sign the petition today. This is something easy to do, impactful, and immediate. I'm so disgusted right now," Smart said.
