Premier League star arrested at nightclub on suspicion of sexual assault

A Premier League footballer was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman at a nightclub in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as confirmed by local police and his club Brighton and Hove Albion.
The victim is receiving specialist support from officers while two men are being questioned, Sussex Police confirmed.
In a statement, Brighton and Hove Albion FC said they were helping police with the investigation into the conduct of their player in his 20s, which allegedly took place at The Arch nightclub.
"The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment at this time," it stressed.
Representing Sussex police, a spokesperson said: "Two men have been arrested after a woman reported being sexually assaulted at a venue in Brighton, in the early hours of Wednesday.
"A man in his 40s and a man in his 20s, both from Brighton, were arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and remain in police custody at this time."

Powell ran against Ted Heath for the leadership of the Conservative Party in 1966. He left the Tories in 1974 and became the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) MP for South Down. He remained in Westminster as a Unionist MP until 1987.

On his website Donaldson has said that: “My involvement with the Ulster Unionist Party grew as I worked alongside two of the greatest names in Unionism in the 20th century [i.e. Powell and Molyneaux]. Between 1982 and 1984 I worked as Enoch Powell’s constituency agent, successfully spearheading Mr Powell’s election campaigns of 1983 and 1986 when the South Down seat was retained by the fact the constituency contained a natural ‘nationalist’ majority.”
Donaldson, who became a political activist at 18, got to know Powell very well. Powell came over to the North most weekends. He usually returned on Monday mornings. One of Donaldson’s tasks was to drive Powell to the airport. The discussions in the car were “politically orientated,” he has said. “He would talk about Parliament, about the 1974 period leading up to his resignation [from the Conservative Party], about British politics, about American politics. Sometimes, it would be completely different. He was a Greek classical scholar – you would get a lecture on the Elgin marbles. He wanted to help me get a foothold. It was real political apprenticeship”.
Powell once tried to make up for Donaldson’s education deficit by gaining him access to a course in Queen’s University.
Donaldson left the UUP and joined the DUP in January 2004 at the invitation of Peter Robinson.

On Tuesday, a lawyer for Hillsong founder Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston told a Sydney court that he will plead not guilty for concealing crimes of sexual abuse by his late father, Frank Houston.
In August, Houston was formally charged by the New South Wales Police for failing to report his father’s sexual abuse of a boy in the 1970s after a two-year investigation. They claimed that Houston knew about the abuse as early as September 1999 but “failed to bring that information to the attention of police.”
In response, Houston promised to “vehemently” profess his innocence in fighting the charges. “I welcome the opportunity to set the record straight,” he said in a statement in August.
A spokesperson for Hillsong told The Christian Post, that the allegations were “unfounded” as Frank Houston was “never a pastor at Hillsong Church.”
“The incidents involving Frank Houston took place in the 1960s and early 1970s. Hillsong Church was not founded until 1983, and Frank Houston was never a pastor at Hillsong Church,” the spokesperson told the outlet.
A month later, Houston stepped down from his role on various church boards amidst the charges, except for his position as Global Senior Pastor.
Frank Houston, who died in 2004 at the age of 82, was the head of the Assemblies of God in New Zealand until 1971. During his tenure, he was confirmed to have abused multiple young boys in Australia and New Zealand.
In 1983, Brian Houston founded Hillsong with his wife Bobbi in Sydney, which has since grown into a global evangelical megachurch today. According to The Christian Post, he also served as the head of the Australian branch of the Assemblies of God from 1997 to 2009.
Upon becoming aware of the sex crimes, Brian immediately made his father resign from the Sydney Christian Life Centre with a pension.
In 2014, Houston told the Royal Commission Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuses that he did not blame an accuser, who is now 59 years old, for tempting his father when he was a child.
Houston’s case in court will continue on Nov. 23.
The matter also comes in light of several allegations of abuse amongst Hillsong’s leadership, which was recently detailed in the 60 Minutes Australia special, Hillsong Hell.
While Frank was never a pastor at Hillsong, he was still under the authority of Brian, otherwise, Brian could not have forced him to step down from SCLC. I don't think he has a realistic chance of beating this charge and I'm not sure he should even try.
