To those Muslims who follow strict Sharia law, child marriage is permissible, as per Muhammad’s example, delineated in the Hadith:
“The Prophet (peace be upon him) married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old.” (al-Bukhari 67:70)
Egypt decided to act to curb the practice of child marriage last year when it amended its laws to criminalize it. That included “setting a minimum age and extending penalties for child marriage to include fathers or other male guardians.” 18 became the minimum age to marry.

September 21, 2021:
Security forces in Egypt’s Giza have arrested the parents of an 11-year-old bride-to-be and 12-year-old groom-to-be an hour after announcing their engagement in the village of Umm Khenan in the city of Hawamdiya, Al Arabiya reported on Sunday.
The engagement party for the two children took place in the village, just 30 kilometers from Cairo, on Friday.
The celebration held by the two families was cut short after the jewelry shop that the newlywed’s parents bought gold from posted photos on Facebook.
This led to security forces tracking down the details of the event. They then found the parents, arrested them and referred them to prosecution for investigation, according to Egypt’s National Council for Childhood and Motherhood.

Nagpur: In a shocking incident, the Nagpur Police have arrested at least three women pimps who allegedly tried to 'sell the virginity' of a 12-year-old girl to a customer for Rs40,000 ($540), police said here on Saturday.
"We have arrested three accused so far and further investigations in the case are underway," Nagpur Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told IANS.
The Nagpur Crime Branch's Social Service Branch managed to rescue the minor girl safely before she became a victim to the pimps' evil designs to push her into the flesh trade, police said.
The sinister incident happened when one of the accused lured the girl to her home in Omnagar, Koradi locality on the pretext of a birthday party, and the two other accomplices contacted a customer with the Rs 40,000 deal.
Following a timely tip-off by a local NGO, the SSB sleuths sent in a decoy customer who confirmed the goings-on and alerted the police. A crack police team comprising women officials raided the premises to save the girl and nab the three main culprits present there.
The accused have been identified as Archana Vaishampayan, 38, Ranjana Meshram, 45 and Kavita Nikhare, 30 and they have been remanded to police custody.
According to police, the prime accused, Vaishampayan is said to have lured the little girl on the promise of giving her Rs 5000 to help for her mother's cancer treatment. The accused also convinced the girl's mother to send her to work as a caretaker for Vaishampayan's two-year old son, without revealing her actual motives.
After the girl reached the party spot, Nikhare was tasked with finding a customer, and made the promise of the girl's virginity in return for Rs 40,000.
Following the rescue, the minor girl has been shifted to a government shelter home and police are trying to trace the other accomplices of the accused trio to know since how long they are in the racket, etc.

Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a housewife committed suicide along with her 15-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter following the death of her husband in Prakruthi Layout area on the outskirts of Bengaluru, the police sources said here on Saturday.
The deceased are identified as Vasantha (40), her son Yashwanth and her daughter Nishvika. Vasantha had lost her husband Prasanna Kumar, a BMTC bus driver cum conductor to the COVID-19 last year.
The incident came to light on Friday evening when Vasantha’s brother came home when his calls were not answered. The police recovered a long suicide note written by Vasantha wherein she has explained how her life has changed after the death of her husband Prasanna Kumar due to Covid-19.
In the death note, she has mentioned that after the death of her husband she was fearful, anxious and directionless. “Every day I am living like a dead person after I lost my husband. There is no one in the world to look up to. I came to know about this hard truth and we are ending lives,” the letter said.
What madness! Good grief!
“It is not possible for me to forget my husband and move on in life. Without him, though I am alive, but only in flesh and blood. I tried my best, but not able to find answers to questions on who will stand by us. None are bothered about my children, they have not even shown an iota of affection. We don’t want to live in this bad world,” Vasantha has written in the suicide note.
“There was a loan and responsibility of children. The loan could be cleared after selling the house owned by us. It is not only the money that matters in life. Relatives are talking that there was no problem to lead a life without him. But, it is not easy after the death of my husband. If someone could have given us little love and affection we would not have taken this extreme step,” the suicide note claimed.
Police said that Vasantha was suffering from depression. Her brother had sent her mother Tayavva to stay with her. But, Vasantha ended life when Tayavva had gone to visit a doctor.
Police also said that Vasantha had convinced her children that she would take them to the place of their father and mentioned it in the death note. The bodies of Vasantha and daughter Nishvika were found hanging together and her son’s body was found hanging separately. The investigation is on.
