Landmark ruling by UK's High Court grants victims

The UK’s High Court has ruled that thousands of human trafficking victims, who have been stuck in “legal limbo” awaiting asylum or humanitarian protection, should be granted leave to remain, in a landmark decision.

The judgement, delivered by Justice Linden on Tuesday, orders the UK government to grant, en masse, leave to remain to thousands of human trafficking victims who have been forced to wait for years while applications for asylum make their way through the Home Office and courts.

Speaking in the High Court, Justice Linden discussed the impact of the delays, stating that “the effect of the refusal to grant the claimant modern slavery leave is that she is subject to the so-called hostile environment underpinned by the Immigration Act 2014.”

The case was sparked by a legal challenge against the Home Office by an unnamed 33-year-old Vietnamese woman who claimed to have been trafficked to the UK in the back of a lorry, before being forced to work in brothels and in drug production.

Despite being recognised as a victim of human trafficking, she was first sentenced by Preston Crown Court to 28 months in prison for conspiring to produce cannabis and later locked up in immigration detention by the Home Office pending the outcome of her asylum appeal.

Praising the court’s ruling, lawyer Ahmed Aydeed, who represented a trafficking victim, welcomed how it will ensure that individuals seeking asylum or protection “will no longer be left to live in this half-world, this legal limbo that has stripped them of their dignity and exposed them to further exploitation.”

The UK government has not yet publicly responded to the judgement. The Home Office has until October 19 to decide if it wishes to appeal the ruling.

UK paedophile who abused children over two decades is jailed for life

A dangerous paedophile who groomed, drugged and sexually abused a series of vulnerable boys and girls over 20 years, was today jailed for life

Pensioner Carson Grimes was convicted of a staggering 36 historic serious sexual offences by a jury following a trial.

The 65-year-old, of Dumfries Street, Luton, will serve a minimum of 22 years in prison following his sentencing at Luton Crown Court today.

While most of his victims were aged between 10 and 14 years at the time of their abuse, Grimes began abusing his youngest victim when they were just five years old.

Investigators say the predator worked to gain his victims’ trust before inviting them into what his victims called the ‘horror house’ where he would ply them with drugs and abuse them.

Bedfordshire Police launched one of its biggest ever child sexual exploitation (CSE) investigations in 2018 when one of his victims came forward to say he had been groomed and raped by Grimes in the early 1990s.

A spokesman for Bedfordshire Police said: ‘The force’s specialist CSE team then worked to identify and support further victims of Grimes’ abuse, building up a clear picture of his exploitation.

‘Detectives have now urged any sexual abuse victims to come forward to police, regardless of when the abuse happened.

‘A number of people have come forward to say they were also abused by Grimes following media coverage of the case at both conviction and then an episode of Channel 4 documentary 24 Hours in Police Custody, which featured the case on Monday.’

North Yorkshire's police boss has resigned after a panel recommended he step down over his recent comments that women should be “streetwise” about whether they’re in a situation that genuinely warrants arrest or not.

In an open letter on Thursday, North Yorkshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Philip Allott apologised for his comments and said he would be stepping down from his position.

His resignation came just hours after the Police and Crime Panel, which he reports to, urged him to do so; all 11 members of the panel backed a no-confidence motion in the police chief.

“I need to be clear. I apologise unreservedly for my remarks. They do not reflect my views. I misspoke and I am devastated at the effect that this has had on victims of crime and the groups that support them,” Allott wrote in his letter, referencing the controversial remarks which he had made on BBC Radio York.

He added that he was pleased that so many victim groups who had been offended by his comments accepted his apology.

Two weeks ago, Allott told BBC Radio York that women should know “when they can be arrested and when they can't be arrested” during a conversation concerning the false arrest, abduction, rape, and murder of Sarah Everard in London by then-serving Met Police officer Wayne Couzens.

“A police officer can't just arrest you. There has to be a reason,” Allott noted, adding that women should be “streetwise.” His remarks triggered some 800 complaints to the broadcaster and 121 complaints to the policing panel.

Allott originally refused to step down from his post, which he had only taken on five months previous, but accepted it was a “car crash of an answer.”

London firearms officer Couzens was sentenced to a whole-life term in prison on September 30 for the murder of Everard in March.

He arrested her under false pretences, then took her outside the city where he raped and murdered her (7th story on link).

Today MasterCard Stood Against Big Porn Criminal Exploitation

Laila Mickelwait

Today MasterCard enacted a global policy that has been in the works for several months that prohibits the use of the card on all user-generated porn sites that do not verify the age and the consent of the millions of individuals in the videos they profit from.

For over a decade, Big Porn tube sites have exploited victims for a profit with impunity, creating their sites to monetize criminal sexual abuse with ease rather than combat it.

Case in point: Pornhub, the largest and most popular porn site globally and the tenth most trafficked website across the Internet, with 47 billion visits and seven million videos uploaded per year, was allowing users to upload sex videos with only an email address. No ID was required to show it wasn’t a child, no consent form to show it wasn’t a rape, trafficking, or revenge porn victim--only an email address. But things are changing, and the era of impunity for these predatory Big Porn corporations is over.

Let’s keep fighting because we are winning.

Until We Prevail,

Paedophile childcare worker, 30, admits sexually abusing boy, 4,

while being filmed by his boyfriend

Angry parents say it took six months before they were told about the vile acts

A paedophile childcare worker has confessed to sexual abusing a four-year-old boy while his then-boyfriend filmed with a mobile phone.

Bronte John Ciracovitch, 30, pleaded guilty to maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child at the Adelaide District Court on Friday.

He had already pleaded guilty to producing or taking steps to produce child exploitation material.

Ciracovitch faced a 15-year jail term if he was found guilty at trial but will earn as much as a 25 per cent discount on his sentence because of his early pleas.

The 30-year-old's name suppression was lifted in March so 180 families whose children went to the Child Care Services Australia centre in north Adelaide he worked at could be notified, The Adelaide Advertiser reported.

Bronte John Ciracovitch, 30, changed his plea in the Adelaide District Court on Friday
as he pleaded guilty to abusing a four year child boy

Ciracovitch's ex-boyfriend and co-accused, Kane Graham Rockley, 34, is accused of helping film
the abuse of a four-year-old

Ciracovitch has also pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing child exploitation material - one basic and one aggravated - after initially denying the charges.

His ex-boyfriend Kane Graham Rockley, 34, was accused of allegedly arranging the filming of the abuse of the four-year-old.

He was also accused of filming a boy showering and sending the images to a third person.

Rockley faced charges of one aggregated count of producing child exploitation material and maintains his innocence.

He will face trial at a later date.

Ciracovitch was arrested in September 2020 and initially faced seven charges including aggravated counts of producing and possessing child exploitation material and having sex with a child.

Adelaide Magistrates Court heard he allegedly had a sexual relationship with a child between December 31, 2019 and September 21, 2020.

He pleaded not guilty at the time. But on Friday he changed his plea and pleaded guilty to three charges.

He faces a maximum 15-year prison term, but is eligible for a 25 per cent reduction in his sentence because he pleaded guilty.

Ciracovitch will be back in court next month facing another child abuse file. His lawyers are seeking a plea bargain for that alleged offence.

The families alerted by police were unhappy it took South Australian police up to six months to contact them about Ciracovitch's sick acts.

'My stomach just dropped... I was just like no it can't be,' one parent told Seven News about the moment he found out about Ciracovitch's arrst.

'I felt utterly sick, I felt betrayed... I will never, ever trust again. [My son] attended the centre when he turned one and he left as soon as I found out about what happened and the arrest.'

The letters played a large factor in the revoking of Ciracovitch's suppression order on Wednesday. Lawyers from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions said detectives wanted to send out the letters to alert the families about the allegations against Ciracovitch.

They argued if the suppression order was to remain the police should be granted an exemption to send their letters.

In March Ciracovitch's lawyer said the revoking of the suppression order was 'appalling' as the police were planning to 'name and shame' the defendant to collect evidence.

The revoking of the suppression order came after a legal change from 2019 that scrapped automatic anonymity for alleged sex offenders.
