A teacher's assistant in northeastern Alberta has been accused of several child sex crimes.
Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) says the man works in Fort McMurray for the public school district.
The Northern Alberta Child Exploitation team executed a warrant after receiving tips from both Ottawa and the United States Department of Homeland Security.
It's alleged a 35-year-old man committed multiple sexual offences against two students within the past 10 months. He has been charged with making and distributing child pornography, exploitation and sexual assault.
The two students were described as being elementary-school aged, but no other identifying details were released.
Officers executing a search warrant at Hancock's home took computers and electronic devices for forensic analysis.
Investigators do not believe the alleged offences occurred at the school or in his direct role as a teacher's assistant.
Russell Hancock, who is originally from Fogo Island, Newfoundland & Labrador, is scheduled to appear in Edmonton provincial court on April 28th.
Hancock is facing a total of ten charges: three counts of invitation to sexual touching, two counts of sexual exploitation, and one count each of making child pornography, making child pornography available, distributing child pornography, sexual interference, and sexual assault. More charges may be laid after his electronic devices are analysed.
Fort McMurray is the hub city for Alberta's oil sands industry. It is generally covered in snow for 6 months of the year.
