Rapist Dad Gets Sentenced Reduced from Life to 3 Years

Father accused of raping daughter twice has life term cut. The 48-year-old will now serve 3 years in jail instead of a life term given to him last year.

Ras Al Khaimah, UAE: A father who was found guilty of raping his daughter has had his life sentence slashed to three years in jail on appeal.

The 48-year-old man was given a life term in May 2013 for raping his 20-year-old daughter twice, both assaults took place after she received marriage proposals.

The man had admitted to raping his daughter during all court hearings, but claimed he was unaware of his actions as he was having a diabetic episode at the time. Is it possible for someone having a diabetic episode to rape someone?

The 20-year-old said that her father, identified as M. Kh. Dh., raped her for the first time in their home country (Pakistan). According to her, a man wanted to marry her but the father told her he was not suitable. Later she married and it did not last long. Then the father brought her to stay with him in Ras Al Khaimah.

During that time another man came to ask to marry her but he rejected that also and raped the daughter again.

The sentence was handed out by the Ras Al Khaimah criminal court. A judiciary official told Gulf News the Pakistani man’s act warranted a “very harsh punishment” as he had raped his daughter making the crime “more abominable” and it was against Islamic values.

The court, while sentencing him in May, said the victim would have never thought that the man whom she considered her protector, would turn out to be a monster. I like the statements coming from the courts, but find the dramatic reduction in sentence bewildering.

The defendant’s lawyer said a medical report showed there was no evidence of rape.

Ras Al Khaimah is a city on the northeast tip of the United Arab Emirates.
