A jury in Burlington, Vermont, USA, has ordered a man to pay $35m to the woman he sexually abused multiple times as a child.
The verdict came down against Scott Isaacson, from Hyannis, Massachusetts for allegations of repeatedly sexually abusing the woman when she was between 3 and 9 years of age.
The woman is also believed to be from Massachusetts, but was allowed to sue in a Vermont court because some of the incidents of child sex abuse occurred while the two were on ski trips to Vermont.
The woman doesn't expect to collect very much of the award as Isaacson has few assets and she has her lawyer to pay.
It is likely that she sued in Vermont because jury awards are higher there than in Massachusetts. But what difference does it make whether she wins $35m or $1m? The man's assets are believed to be less than a quarter of a million dollars of which she is unlikely to ever see half.
