A police constable was on Thursday arrested for raping and killing his eight-year-old niece in Kaman town of Bharatpur district. Deputed to the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary's 11th battalion in New Delhi, the accused has allegedly confessed to the crime.
Kaman is a town in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan State, India, 100 kms south of New Delhi.
The constable is said to have taken the girl to an isolated place after drinking alcohol, raped her and then strangled her. Additional deputy commissioner of police Rajendra Singh said the constable was arrested from his house in Kaman.
"On September 9, the eight-year-old girl went missing from a religious public gathering in the town," Singh said. "Her body was recovered two days later from a rain-fed pit near the place. The accused had piled up heaps of mud on the body. After it was recovered by the constable himself — when he faked the act of searching for her with the help of two of his friends — the girl's father lodged an FIR for murder. However, it came up during investigation that the girl was also raped."
The police later came to know the girl had last been seen with her uncle. "The man had met with a minor accident after raping the girl," the police officer said. "He stayed at home for a couple of days and then returned to Delhi for joining duty."
The police said the accused had a history of child molestation. "It came up during investigation that he was beaten up by family members a couple of years ago when he molested a girl who was sleeping. That girl was also a relative."
