Abu Dhabi: An Iraqi woman, Nourzan Al Shammari, 30, was brutally killed, as she was returning from her work, local media reported.
The gruesome act in central Baghdad that was captured on video had gone viral. It shows a woman lying on the street as she is stabbed several times.
A wave of anger and condemnation exploded among Iraqis and Arabs, as the video was shared on different social media platforms, and a hashtag with her name became a trend.
“The murderer of Nourzan was arrested in a record time,” Iraqi police said in a statement on Saturday, three days after the heinous crime took place.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior, Major General Saad Maan, said the killer was Nourzan’s brother, and he was aided by his cousins, who are still at large.
The suspect admitted to killing of the woman due to family problems, Major General Maan said in a statement.
Well, I wonder if that solved all the family's problems?
The victim was reportedly forced to get married, when she was a child. She was later divorced, and recently refused to remarry.
Violence against women is endemic in Iraq, with legislation strengthening protections against domestic violence currently being stalled in the Council of Representatives.
Undoubtedly, being stalled by men.

The scene of a mother hitting her two-year child has caused a stir on social media, and the video goes viral. Based on the shocking footage, the investigation revealed that Tulasi, residing in Villupuram district, was the one who tortured the child by hitting him.
Tulasi and her husband G. Vadivelan had a family conflict, and they both opted for divorce. The Satyamangalam police filed a case against Tulasi under four sections, including the Prevention of Child Abuse Act.
Andhra Pradesh police arrested Tulasi in Chittoor and brought him to Sathyamangalam police station this morning. She was seriously interrogated for two hours. Tulsi was taken to Villupuram - Mundiyambakkam Government Medical College Hospital for a psychiatric examination on suspicion that she may have a mental illness.
In this case, the couple is currently separated due to a dispute between the designer and his wife, Tulasi. Her husband Vadivelan has left her at Tulasi's house in Andhra Pradesh. After returning home, Vadivelan was shocked to see the photos and videos from Tulasi's mobile.
He found a video taken on the 23rd of last month, where Tulasi took a video of her youngest son Pradeep being brutally beaten and tortured by her in her cellphone. Vadivelan has gone to the police and complained in this regard. This video started spreading fast on social media.
Following this, a case was registered against Tulasi at the Sathyamangalam police station in three sections. Tulasi has been charged under the following section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person) of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 75 (abusing a child) of the Juvenile Justice Act.

And then Tulasi was arrested and brought for interrogation. Tulasi said that in the first stage, she showed her hatred towards her husband as she is in love with another guy and so she beat and abused the child. It is also said that she hated that child because he resembles her husband.
Based on Tulsi's confession, a six-member personal police team led by an assistant investigator rushed to Chennai to nab Premkumar, a lover from Chennai. And to notice her boyfriend Premkumar, who was introduced to a Missed call and used to talk to Tulasi through a WhatsApp video Call very often.
Did she video the beatings to please her boyfriend, or, perhaps to prove her devotion to him? He should have turned her in if he was aware of the abuse. If he was, he should be charged as an accessory.

Dubai: An Egyptian man has murdered his pregnant sister half an hour before her planned delivery in her apartment, local media reported.
The man is said to have beheaded his sister after stabbing her multiple times.
He first hit her with a stick on the head to cause her to lose consciousness, and then "slit her throat like a goat".
According to the victim’s relatives, the killer had a bloody past and a criminal record.
The crime came to light when the victim’s aunt went to take her pregnant niece to hospital for her scheduled delivery. To her shock, she found her niece lying in a pool of blood with her head chopped off.
She immediately reported the crime to the police who launched an investigation into the dreadful crime. The killer was arrested shortly after committing his crime. He was also on the wanted list.
“It is not the first time that the victim’s brother has tried to kill her. A year after her marriage, she was stabbed 20 times in different parts of her body, causing her deep injuries but she narrowly survived. He was arrested back then but she dropped the case against her brother just for her mother not to grief,” the victim’s aunt said.
Now her mother has 3 to grieve over. How could she drop the case when her brother is clearly mad?
“On the day of the crime, the victim was getting herself ready to go to hospital to deliver her first baby two years after marriage. However, her brother called her saying he is coming to see her before going to hospital.

Bengaluru (Karnataka): The Bengaluru Police have arrested two Nigerian nationals, residents of Kamanahalli in the city, for allegedly raping a techie, said police on Saturday.
The accused have been identified as Tony (35) and Ubaka (36), SD Sharanappa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), told ANI.
The techie, a native of Andhra Pradesh, works at a reputed IT company in the city. The accused and the victim had known each other for a long time, said the police.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, the duo allegedly sedated and raped her.
The accused were arrested under Sections 376 (rape), 417 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and sent to judicial custody, said the police.

Thiruvananthapuram: In a bizarre incident of domestic unrest in a family here, an angry wife after throwing acid on her husband, took their five-year-old son and jumped into the well and committed suicide, near here.
Locals said that for a while Bindhu and Rejilal have been having frequent tiffs and what happened was a follow up of the tiff.
This incident occurred late on Sunday night when Bindhu threw acid on the body of Rejilal who was fast asleep then.
Soon after that she took their child and jumped into the well.
It was only after hearing the cries, the neighbourhood came rushing, but by the time they managed to pull out Bindhu and the kid, it was too late.
Rejilal was rushed to the hospital and his condition is reported to be serious.
“Three days back, there was an issue in the night after she said her husband beat her up. Hearing the cries, we the neighbours got together and settled the issue,” said a neighbour to the media.

Dubai: A 4-year-old girl was reportedly sacrificed by her tuk-tuk driver uncle who believed doing this would enable him to find a hidden treasure, Egyptian media reported.
According to police records, the victim was found by her parents lying in a pool of blood suffering from serious injuries to her neck. A police patrol soon arrived at the crime scene.
Initial investigations led police to identify the killer, who turned out to be her uncle. Upon interrogation, he admitted to killing his niece as 'a sacrifice to the jinn', believing that he could extract a treasure that was apparently being hidden by the jinn, as suggested by a sorcerer.
Jinn is an eastern name for demon.
He was arrested and will be referred for public prosecution pending trial.
Some looters in Egypt are now turning to spirits called 'jinns' in their hunt for hidden treasures. A few gold seekers even go as far as to try to get the jinn to "possess" them in hopes that the spirits will guide them to that hidden jackpot. But, according to researchers, metal detectors and mass excavation of archaeological sites seem to be the most effective ways of looting treasures.
