Suspect arrested on kidnapping, sex trafficking, child abuse charges

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A North Las Vegas man is accused of trafficking a girl as a prostitute in order to rob unsuspecting men.
Exodus Mucelroy, 18, was arrested Wednesday by Las Vegas Metro Police officers at his home in the 1800 block of Hammer Ln. in North Las Vegas. He faces six charges, including sex trafficking, child abuse, kidnapping, and making and distributing pornographic videos of a minor.
According to an arrest report, Mucelroy encouraged a girl with whom he had an ongoing sexual relationship to meet men online and in-person with the promise of sex. However, Mulceroy intended to use those meetings to lure men into a robbery, according to police.
Detectives said one robbery occurred July 19, 2021, inside a hotel room at the Wild Wild West Gambling Hall at 3330 W. Tropicana Blvd. The victim told police he had been robbed with a deadly weapon. According to the arrest report, the victim met the girl at a restaurant in Summerlin and agreed to have sex in exchange for money inside his hotel room.
Metro Police were able to search the cell phone of the minor girl. Mucelroy’s arrest report includes detailed text messages between him and the girl, which contained graphic videos of sex acts. The records allegedly show Mucelroy urged the girl to assist in robbing the men.
According to online records, Mucelroy remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center. His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 16, 2021.

Texas child sex offenders’ appeals denied

WICHITA COUNTY (KFDX/KJTL) — A state appeals court affirms convictions of two high profile Wichita County child sex abuse cases that resulted in lengthy sentences.
In the first case, the 2nd Court of Appeals denied the appeal of Christopher Morriss, who was convicted by a jury and sentenced last year to life without parole for continuous sexual abuse of a child and indecency with a child.
Morriss’ appeal claimed the trial court denied his motion to quash some of the counts in which the victim was the same as in other counts and that the jury was not instructed to disregard those counts.
The appeals court rejected Morriss’ argument, but did rule the Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact conviction be changed to Indecency by Exposure.
The charges involved a girl who was victimized between the ages of six and 10 years old during a camping trip, in a laundry room and at other locations.
The victim said Morriss told her he would kill her if she told anyone about the assaults, and authorities said Morriss also threatened to kill his ex-wife in a phone call from the jail.

The victims were 10 and 13-year-old brothers who were forced into sexual activity in an abandoned trailer.
Prosecutor Dobie Kosub said the victims were “destroyed mentally” by the abuse.
Cochnauer was unsatisfied with his appointed attorney and elected to defend himself. After his conviction, he appealed on grounds he was deprived of his right to counsel and his right to a speedy trial.
He maintained he was “commandeered” into serving as his own attorney, though the court appointed another attorney to be in court, ready to assist him. The appeals court rejected his appeal, finding that the trial court had thoroughly questioned and cautioned him about his decision.

Police and health authorities in Minnesota, US are investigating a case of “emotional abuse” at a local nursing home. Teen girls who worked at the facility had been found apparently tormenting a resident with dementia.
Two aides at the Johnson Memorial Hospital and Home in the small town of Dawson, who are said to be around 17 years old, allegedly abused one of the female residents, the local Fox channel reported on Saturday.
One evening back in May, the girls danced in “a sexually provocative manner” in front of the elderly woman with dementia, who sat on a couch in a lounge, according to the now-revealed report from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH).
Caught on a surveillance camera at the facility, one of the teens was seen “twerking” in front of the vulnerable resident, while also “exposing her lower back” to the elderly woman. One of them also pulled up her shirt above her bra in front of the resident, and kissed the woman on the lips, police and MDH reports stated. During the act that lasted for about half an hour, the girls used a toy gun to shoot foam balls at the woman, and sat and bounced on her lap while filming themselves and the resident with a cell phone and laughing “boisterously.”
The nursing home management said they immediately reported the incident to law enforcement, regulatory agencies and the resident’s family.
The nursing home workers “treated the resident in a manner which a reasonable person would find derogatory, humiliating or harassing,” the MDH report concluded, stating that “emotional abuse was substantiated.” They were fired two days after the incident, and the elderly woman has since died from unrelated causes.
The teenagers are now charged as juveniles with abusing a vulnerable adult, a gross misdemeanor, a local assistant attorney told Fox9, adding that “this whole episode has been devastating for the family.” One of the girls appeared in court last week, admitting to the incident, but not feeling remorseful, the official told the channel, saying that the teens will most likely get probation and be ordered to perform community service.
I think these girls need to pursue a different career, one that doesn't require being the least bit considerate of anyone else.
Mattoon, Ill sex offender sentenced to 45 years

URBANA, Ill. (WICS/WCCU) — A Mattoon man was sentenced on several charges related to sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.
Jeffrey M. West, 53, was convicted on two counts of sexual exploitation of minors; two counts of commission of the offense by a registered sex offender; two counts of receiving child pornography; and one count of possession of child pornography.
On Monday, Sept. 13, West was sentenced to 45 years in federal prison.
He was taken into custody after a minor told authorities he was sexually abused by West in 2019.
A search by authorities turned up more than 1,000 images and videos of child pornography, including sexually explicit depictions of infants and prepubescent minors, which were found on multiple devices in his home and at his business in Mattoon.
In addition, the government’s evidence showed that West used the video-chatting website Omegle to entice and coerce multiple unidentified minor males to engage in sexually explicit conduct which he captured for his collection. According to testimony from an FBI expert, Omegle’s website warns its users about predatory behavior because the website provides anonymity features that are often used by individuals with a sexual interest in children.
West has a prior conviction in Coles County for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 10-year-old minor female and a 4-year-old minor male.
Following West’s release from prison he will be on supervised release for fifteen years and will be required to register as a sex offender.
“Those who choose to sexually abuse children will be caught, prosecuted, and severely punished,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Douglas J. Quivey. “I commend the diligent investigators of the Mattoon Police Department, working in conjunction with the FBI, for making our community safer.”

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — A retired Navy officer and former faculty member at the Navy War College in Newport, Rhode Island, has been sentenced to serve life in prison for sexually abusing a child for years.
U.S. District Judge John McConnell ordered retired Lt. Cmdr. Ronald Zenga, a former helicopter pilot, to serve the rest of his natural life in federal prison during sentencing Friday in Providence federal court, WPRI-TV reports.
Zenga tearfully apologized to the victim and others he’d hurt in court. His lawyer argued for leniency, saying he suffered from mental illness and was capable of rehabilitation. But the victim’s mother described Zenga as manipulative and incapable of remorse.
Zenga, who had been on the faculty at the Naval War College before retiring in October 2017, pleaded guilty to coercion and distributing and possessing child pornography last November. He’d previously pleaded not guilty to eight charges.
Authorities say Zenga used a Russian website to communicate with an undercover law enforcement agent in England, where the case started, to graphically describe an ongoing sexual encounter with a child.
An affidavit submitted by a Homeland Security Investigations special agent stated that Zenga admitted “the sexual abuse began when he was in the U.S. Navy stationed in Guam.” It continued until two weeks before agents searched his home in Middletown, Rhode Island, in 2018, according to prosecutors.
Zenga was assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 in Guam from 2010 to 2013, according to his military records.
The federal indictment against him stated that he had transported the underage victim from Rhode Island to Texas, Florida and Cuba over the following decade or so, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Rhode Island District.
The affidavit also alleged that Zenga confessed to “receiving, distributing and possessing child pornography on the social media application Kik” and through an encrypted email address.
Pine Prairie, La man arrested in connection with years of molestation

Evangeline Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Pine Prairie man and accused him of years of child sex abuse.
Jean Baptist Andrus, 75, was booked with Indecent Behavior with Juveniles and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile. Deputies say he refused to cooperate with the investigation and was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail without incident.
The investigation began back in August, when deputies were called to speak with a victim who said Andrus had been molesting her for years, since she was six years old.
