Two men convicted in federal court of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12
By FRANK GREEN Richmond Times-Dispatch

Two of three men accused in the sexual assault of a child in Northern Virginia last year have pleaded guilty in federal court in Richmond.

Benjamin Faulkner, 25, and Patrick Falte, 27, pleaded guilty on Wednesday and May 10 respectively to aggravated sexual abuse, admitting they crossed state lines with the intent to engage in a sexual act with a child under the age of 12.

Each faces up to life in prison when sentenced Sept. 26 by U.S. District Judge John A. Gibney Jr. The government has agreed not to seek a term greater than 50 years, though that is not binding on the judge. The law requires they be sentenced to at least 30 years.

The two were arrested on Oct. 3 at a home in Hanover County where they met on Sept. 30 after traveling from unspecified out-of-state locations. They returned there on Oct. 2 following the crime that occurred in Northern Virginia. A third man, Thomas Hix, 28, was charged with the sexual exploitation of a child and apparently is still awaiting trial.

Authorities would not release the hometowns of the three. Court papers indicate that Faulkner is from Canada, Falte from another state and Hix from Northern Virginia. Falte and Faulkner are also facing federal child pornography-related charges in Tennessee.

3 cases of child porn in the news today from one small city in northern Alberta - Grande Prairie

Second Grande Prairie man facing child porn charges in less than a month
Chris Newton News,

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB — A man from Grande Prairie is facing a number of child pornography charges, the second in less than a month.

The police began their investigation after the sharing of child pornography on social media was reported to the National Child Exploitation Centre in Ottawa.

On May 10th, Grande Prairie Mounties and ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit executed a search warrant at a home in Grande Prairie.

Jason Lovely, a resident of Grande Prairie, was arrested and charged with one count each of Possession of Child Pornography and Distribute Child Pornography.  Lovely is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial court on June 28th.

RCMP CPl. Shawn Graham said in a release that, “Due to the complex nature of such cases, the investigation will continue.”

Situated in the Peace River district, Grande Prairie has a population of 63,000

Not clear if Lovely's case is related to previous arrest

Lovely is the second man from the Swan City to face child porn charges in less than a month. On April 18th, 54 year-old Brian McCausland was arrested and charged with one count each of Possession and Distribution of child pornography. He is due to appear in court on May 29th. At this point, it is unclear if the two cases are related.

Young Teens sentenced after creating child porn

Two teenagers were sentenced in a Grande Prairie court, Monday, after being charged with making child pornography and sexual counsel of a minor.

The two girls are 13 and 14 years-old. The 13 year-old was also sentenced after facing a charge of distributing child pornography.

According to the Grande Prairie Herald-Tribune, the 13 year-old was given a 24 month probationary period and the 14 year-old was given an 18 month probationary period.

Neither girl can be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The Herald-Tribune reports that the charges stemmed from an incident on June 25 when the two youths were babysitting two young boys, aged three and four, at a Wembley residence, west of Grande Prairie.

A special prosecutor with the case, Cheryl Schlecker, had explained that the two girls had somehow talked the boys into performing oral acts and cell phone pictures were taken, which the 13 year-old then sent to numerous people.

Schlecker says the girls were eventually arrested later the same day after a youth recipient of the photo text message sent them to her father who then called police.

God bless her, or him.

The defence lawyers for both girls had pointed out the young ages of their clients, saying that they don’t think the girls understood the seriousness of what they were doing.

Along with their probations, the girls have several further conditions by which they must abide. They must complete 100 hours of community service, abide by a curfew and not have any contact with either of the victims or the victims’ family. They are also not allowed to have contact with anyone under the age of 13 without adult supervision.

The Herald-Tribune, however, reports that the 14 year-old was given one exemption to that stipulation because she has a younger sister.

Furthermore, the girls are not allowed to have access to any type of visual recording device, computer or any other device that can access the Internet unless they have adult supervision.

The girls are also required to write apology letters to the victims’ family.

$150K bond for St. Charles East teacher
caught with child porn
CHICAGO NEWS
Francesca Gattuso

Bond was set at $150,000 Tuesday for a west suburban high school teacher charged with possession of child pornography.

Gregory Burgener, 63, was taken into custody Tuesday morning by Elmhurst police, and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney office.

Burgener, an Elmhurst resident, is an English teacher at St. Charles East High School. Elmhurst police were alerted to illegal activity from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and specially trained detectives using forensic internet and computer technology investigated.

“The allegation that Mr. Burgener was in possession of child pornography is sickening,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said a statement. “As I have said many times in the past, every image of child pornography represents yet another innocent victim, and my office will not hesitate to bring charges against anyone involved in this filth.”

Burgener’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 12. Should he post bail before then, the judge ordered he have no contact with children under 18.
