Report: Florida trooper sexually abuses child using swing, other devices
by Sierra DarvilleGROVELAND, Fla. (CBS12) — A Florida trooper is in custody after authorities say he sexually battered a juvenile.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Chad Corriveau sexually battered the female child in November and December of 2016.
Authorities were alerted to the incident when a relative of Corriveau's said she was told by the child that he kissed and had sex with her using a sex swing and sex devices.
Deputies say the victim was taken to the Lake-Sumter Children's Advocacy Center for a forensic interview. The victim was determined to know the difference between right and wrong and told authorities what happened between her and Corriveau.
According to the arrest affidavit, the victim told deputies the first incident happened during Thanksgiving break of 2016. The victim said Corriveau showed her pornography on his cellphone.
A month later, the victim said Corriveau asked her about her sexual experiences and began kissing her and removing her clothes.
During that same incident, the victim said Corriveau took her to his bedroom and retrieved a bag from the garage.
Corriveau removed Velcro restraints and a bar from the bag. The victim told deputies he attached the bar to the bedroom door, then her to the bar. According to the affidavit, Corriveau inserted a "long vibrator" into the victim, asking her if it felt good.
After the incident, Corriveau told the victim not to tell anyone about what happened.
Deputies say the victim never told Corriveau she did not want to participate in any sexual activities with him because of his short temper, which made her fear for her safety.
Corriveau faces charges of sexual battery under familial authority (domestic) and showing any obscene material to a minor (domestic).
FHP released the following statement after the arrest:
The Florida Highway Patrol takes these matters very seriously and has placed the trooper on administrative leave pending the criminal investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, a thorough administrative investigation is being conducted simultaneously regarding the allegations and the actions of the trooper, and appropriate disciplinary action will be immediately taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
According to FHP officials, Corriveau is stationed in Lake County and has been employed as a trooper since May 2009.

TACOMA, WA — A 26-year-old Neah Bay man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison for sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced.
Jordan James Colfax was sentenced Tuesday to 63 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of abusive sexual contact.
Colfax was baby-sitting the child on Makah tribal land when the abuse occurred, federal court papers said.
Men babysitters! Why?
U.S. District Judge Benjamin H. Settle called Colfax’s conduct “monstrous” at the sentencing hearing in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, according to a news release.
Settle ordered Colfax to 20 years of supervised release and to undergo mental health and sexual deviancy treatment after his release, according to Tuesday’s judgment.
Colfax was charged in May 2016 with first-degree child rape. He pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact last April.
Investigators said Colfax abused the child between August 2015 until his arrest in April 2016.
He raped the child for 8 months and he gets 5 years in prison!!!??? Good grief!
A member of the victim’s family told authorities the child had disclosed she had been sexually abused by Colfax, charging papers said.
The case was investigated by Neah Bay police and the FBI. Federal authorities have jurisdiction with crimes involving tribal members on tribal lands. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Tate London, one of two tribal liaisons for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
London had recommended a 63-month prison sentence and 20 years of community custody for Colfax. Colfax was being held Saturday at the federal detention center in SeaTac.
