Sugar Grove Man Sentenced to 45 Years For Sexual Abuse of Foster ChildTyler Bachman
A Sugar Grove, Ill, man, convicted of sexually assaulting a foster child he housed in the early 2000's was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the crime on Thursday.
A Kane County Judge made that ruling in the first of two cases against 49 year-old Noel Buhay of Dorr Drive in Sugar Grove.
Buhay was convicted in March for three counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child for repeatedly sexually assaulting the foster child between January and May of 2004. The child was younger than 12 years old at the time of the assaults occurring in Buhay's home.
A lawsuit was filed seeking $50,000 in damages for the victim and the judge ordered the victim be paid $35,000 in restitution.
Buhay had faced a sentence of between 18 and 90 years’ imprisonment. He'll be required to register as a sex offender. Buhay received credit for 90 days already served in the Kane County jail.
Noel Buhay is also facing 27 counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child and other related offenses against a second victim -- a case that if convicted of the most serious offense, would require a mandatory minimum additional sentence of 165 years in prison.
Quate faces 34 new counts in sexual child abuse caseBy: Caroline Bleakley
LAS VEGAS - The man accused of hiding the death of his 6-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a garage in Illinois, was back in a Las Vegas courtroom Friday.
Jason Quate, 34, is facing new charges involving his two other daughters who were living with him and his wife, Elizabeth O'Dell Quate, in Las Vegas at the time of his arrest.
He is facing the following news charges:
5 counts of sexual assault against a child under 14
21 counts of lewdness with a child under 14
1 count of open and gross lewdness with a child under 18
2 counts of child abuse/neglect with substantial body and mental harm
4 counts of child abuse or neglect
1 count of possession of child pornography
Quate was not asked to enter pleas during the court appearance. His court-appointed attorney, Katrina Ross, said he will plead not guilty.
Quate is also accused of sexually trafficking his wife to earn money to support the family.
Quate was arrested June 6 after his wife contacted Metro Police and told them he had killed their younger daughter and hid her body in a garage at an abandoned home in Illinois. The girl's body was found.
The new charges stem from alleged abuse of the couple's two other children who are 11 and 13.
According to Quate's arrest report, during a physical examination, it was noted the two girls were pale, had multiple scars over multiple body parts and were not attending school. There was also evidence of sexual abuse of one of the daughters.
Quate admitted in that report that he had problems controlling his anger, but he denied any inappropriate sexual touching or sexual abuse.
Former GOP leader admits committing child sex abuse
gets life in prison
Adrianne Haney, WXIA
MARIETTA, Ga. -- "I am stronger than you."
Those are the words spoken in court by a victim of a former Cobb County GOP leader found guilty of child sex abuse. On Friday, Joseph Russell Dendy, admitted to committing repeated sexual offenses against two boys between 2004 and 2011.
The 72-year-old former chairman of the Cobb County Republican Party pleaded guilty to 13 counts of aggravated sexual battery, aggravated child molestation, child molestation, enticing a child and cruelty to children. Prosecutors said the abuse happened at Dendy's home, church and in a store dressing room.
After the plea, one of Dendy's victims told the courtroom that he still has nightmares about the abuse and decided to become a military police officer to help others who have been abused.
A Cobb County judge sentenced Dendy to life in prison with 30 to serve for the abuse of the two victims, however he also has charges against him in South Carolina. If the 72-year-old is ever released from prison, he will have to register as a sex offender.
Man accused of child sexual abuse rejects plea deal
By FRED PACE
HUNTINGTON, W.V. - An Ohio man indicted for sexual abuse of a child rejected a plea deal from the Cabell County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, causing a continuance of his trial.
Randall R. Legros, 31, of Willow Wood, Ohio, also known as Randell Legros, was indicted in September 2016 on four counts of sexual abuse by a guardian, three counts of incest and first-degree sexual assault and a single count of first-degree sexual abuse.
On Thursday, Legros' defense attorney made a motion for home confinement after the prosecution asked for the continuance of the case.
Home confinement? I'm sure that does not include the victim, but it would have been nice if this article had mentioned that.
It's not bad enough that he sexually abused her, but now he is going to make her testify. I hope the judge is in a bad mood come sentencing day.
Cabell County Circuit Judge Alfred Ferguson granted the motion and set a trial date in the matter at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.
A Cabell County grand jury returned an 11-count indictment against Legros in October 2016. He is accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old more than four years ago in Huntington.
The charges are a reduction from an original charge of 24 similar counts.
Troopers began the investigation into Legros following a complaint from Gallia County Child Protective Services. According to the criminal complaint, another relative reported the abuse in June 2016.
The complaint stated the now-9-year-old girl confided to her stepmother that she had been sexually assaulted between 2011 and 2013 while living on Jerrys Run Road in Ashton, West Virginia, and in Huntington's Altizer neighborhood.
The victim stated she was assaulted at least five to six times over the two-year period while her mother was at work, according to a forensics interview conducted in June by Ross County CPS in Chillicothe, Ohio.
The assaults included coercion with the promise of "lots of candy" in exchange for sexual acts and the threat of getting into "big trouble if she told anyone," interview citations in the criminal complaint state.
