Gulf News, Dubai: Not happy that his child is a girl, a man was caught attempting to bury his 10-year-old daughter alive in the backyard of his house.
The incident took place in a town near the India-Bangladesh border.
Police arrested the suspect, Abdul Hussein, a middle-aged man from Tripura, India.
Hussein reportedly dug a hole in his garden while his wife was away. He then tied the hands and feet of his daughter, taped her mouth and put her in the pit.
The girl was still half-buried in the dirt when the wife returned home, so the suspect covered the girl’s head with a basket, intending to finish burying her later, according to NDTV.com.
A photo of the half-buried girl was posted online.
According to the local media, the mother started to worry where her daughter was when she returned home. Her neighbors later discovered the little girl half-buried in dirt. They ganged up on the father and alerted the authorities.
Police said the man decided to take the child’s life because of her gender. What a nut-case! Shows how far there is still to go to get men to value girls and women in India.
The suspect is now facing an attempted murder charge.
