An investigation discovered "the abuse occurred in several locations between Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough for two years," writes Thim.

Thim says at the time of the abuse, Moen was in his early-20's, and "the underage female victim was under the age of 10."

On Tuesday, Moen confessed to the crime and was arrested.

"He also confessed to sexually abusing other girls," said Thim.

"As a result of Moen’s confession, there could be other victims in the communities of Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Borough."

Michigan man sent to prison in child sex abuse case
By David Panian
Daily Telegram News Editor

ADRIAN — A Riga man will spend at least the next 22 months in prison on a sexual assault charge.

The sentence was handed down Thursday by Lenawee County Circuit Judge Margaret M.S. to Tracy Steven Alanko, 53, in a bifurcated hearing.

“I don’t think I’ve ever interrupted a sentencing before,” Noe said as she resumed the hearing Thursday afternoon. She paused the hearing in the morning as it came time for her to start the weekly felony adult drug court session. Defense attorney Bill McCririe of Brighton was in the middle of reviewing findings of an independent evaluator when Noe had him stop.

Noe told Alanko she wanted to make sure he and his attorney had the time they needed to have their say before she issued her sentence.

As the hearing concluded, Noe ordered that Alanko serve 23 months to 10 years in prison on the assault with intent to commit sexual penetration charge to which he pleaded no contest in May. The 10 years is the maximum penalty for the charge. She gave him credit for the 41 days he already has served in jail since being arrested.

She also ordered Alanko to register as a sex offender for life, have no contact with the victim or any minors younger than 17, complete a sex offender treatment program while incarcerated and pay $198 in court costs.

Alanko earlier asked Noe to “have mercy on me, please.”

He apologized to his family — “They had no part in this. It’s all my fault.” — and said he would like to apologize to the victim — “That’s my fault, not hers. I did it.”

The victim, who is now an adult, was not in court Thursday. She provided a written statement to Noe.

Alanko, who was visibly shaking at times during the sentencing, said he had also asked God for forgiveness.

Noe offered him the opportunity to sit during the hearing, but he declined.

Thursday’s pause was the final delay in a case that was filed in September 2015, alleging Alanko had molested a girl between Jan. 1, 2000, and Dec. 1, 2009, when the girl was 9 and 10 years old. A trial in January 2016 on the original three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct ended with a hung jury.

The original sentencing dates were delayed, the second because Noe had just received the report of the independent evaluation.

McCririe argued Alanko’s personal history and the findings of a therapist at Special Therapy for Adults and Youth (STAY) in Ann Arbor, called for a more lenient sentence. He suggested one year in jail and probation with participation in a community-based rehabilitation program.

McCririe said Alanko has a stable job and support from his wife. His only prior criminal conviction was in an aggravated assault case when he was a high school senior. He said he has no substance abuse problems. “I don’t think he even consumes alcohol,” McCririe said.

Alanko had been free on bond for most of the duration of the case. Noe ordered him taken into custody Aug. 4, his previous sentencing date. McCririe said Alanko was a “model person” while on bond.

Scores by the STAY evaluator show Alanko has a low risk of reoffending and has high probability of successfully rehabilitating, McCririe said.

“Criminal sexual conduct cases that involve children are the worst,” Noe said. “This child trusted you as a father-figure in her life,” she continued, saying she trusted him after he told her what happened was their secret. However, Noe said, the victim also felt confused and violated by what Alanko forced her to do.

Noe said the girl tried to tell Alanko “no.” She said Alanko then threatened to harm the victim or others in their home, and the victim became fearful because there were guns in the house.

“She acknowledges that you chose her to be your victim,” Noe said. “She wants you to know she turned out a lot stronger than you thought she would be.”

Noe said the victim also hopes that her words will help others.

Chesapeake man sentenced to more than
3 life terms in child sex abuse case
By Margaret Matray
The Virginian-Pilot

A 69-year-old Chesapeake man was sentenced Friday to serve more than three life terms for sexually abusing a 7-year-old boy.

At a trial earlier this year, jurors recommended Miguel Angel Carcana serve three life sentences plus five years in prison. Judge Marjorie Taylor Arrington imposed the jury’s recommendation at a brief hearing Friday in Circuit Court.

Before she pronounced the sentence, Arrington asked Carcana if he wanted to say anything.

“No, ma’am,” Carcana replied.

He was a friend of the child’s family and abused the boy in 2014 and 2015, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Parr. The abuse occurred in Carcana’s home, she said.

He was convicted of four counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of forcible sodomy, one count of an indecent act and one count of sexual object penetration, court records show.

As part of his sentence, he must also pay a $40,000 fine.

Carcana’s defense attorney, Michael Woods, said his client maintains his innocence and plans to appeal.

Grandmother charged for failing to report sex abuse
Anne Jungen

Prosecutors Friday filed a felony charge against a La Crosse, Wisconsin grandmother who failed to notify authorities that her 9-year-old granddaughter was being sexually assaulted.

The 54-year-old woman, whom the Tribune is not identifying to shield the identity of the victim, is charged in La Crosse County Circuit Court with failure to protect a child. She returns to court Friday for a preliminary hearing.

Vanin McKinnon, 40, of La Crosse is charged with molesting the child from 2013 until August.

The victim’s mother said her daughter told her about the abuse more than two years ago but that McKinnon denied it, according to the complaint. Police arrested the girl’s mother for failure to protect a child, but she has not yet been charged.

He denied it, so Mom believed the pedophile, not the child. Good grief!

The girl told authorities that her grandmother had witnessed at least one assault. The grandmother told police she caught McKinnon looking at the girl naked and reported the conduct to the girl’s mother but failed to notify police because “she didn’t want the system to get involved and take (the victim) away,” according to the complaint.

No, of course not, the victim was obviously much safer with the pedophile than being removed from him!!!??? Arrrrrgh!

Court vacates conviction; mother in kidnapping, child abuse case to get new trial
By Tucson News Now Staff

TUCSON, AZ
The Arizona Court of Appeals has vacated the conviction of Sophia Richter and ordered a new trial.

According to the court's opinion document, the court found that "Because the trial court improperly precluded Sophia's duress defense, we vacate her conviction and remand for a new trial."

Richter and her husband Fernando Richter were convicted in March 2016 of imprisoning and abusing her three daughters for years.

Fernando Richter was sentenced to 58 years years in prison with 835 days credit for time served while Sophia Richter was sentenced to 20 years with 835 days credit for time served. She also received three years probation.

At sentencing, Sophia Richter's attorney said he will appeal this case, saying there needs to be a better alternative to incarceration.

He said Sophia had no criminal history before this case and he said he wasn't allowed to present her defense as he wanted. He said Sophia was not allowed to say she was a victim herself.

The Richters still face similar kidnapping and child abuse charges in Pinal County, where they lived before moving to Tucson.

Pinal officials have said their trial will start sometime after the trial in Pima County ends. No word yet on an exact date.

In the Pinal County indictment, Fernando Richter also is accused of child molestation and sexual abuse.

Man posted nude pics of teen exes on social media
By Joshua Rhett Miller

A 19-year-old Oregon man allegedly shared nude photos of at least six high school girls on Instagram and Snapchat — and later claimed he was hacked when confronted by one of the girls, authorities said.

Dillan Bostick-Smith was arrested Wednesday by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office after a 17-year-old girl and a friend met with a Molalla police officer at Molalla High School in May, according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by The Oregonian.

The 17-year-old girl told the officer she had previously dated Bostick-Smith and sent him nude photos of herself. He later posted the photos on social media platforms of her and another former girlfriend, she told police. Bostick-Smith then claimed he had been hacked when confronted about the raunchy pics, according to the affidavit.

The 17-year-old girl told police in July that Bostick-Smith continued to post nude photos of her and “lots of other girls” from Molalla High School without their consent. She even tried to search Bostick-Smith’s phone to delete the photos, but was unable to find them. The girl told police that the entire school had seen the explicit photos of her on Instagram, the affidavit continued.

Police met with another former girlfriend of Bostick-Smith who said he also posted nude photos of her online after she sent him racy photos when they were dating.

Investigators have identified at least nine juvenile victims in the case and believe there could be more, police sources told KOIN.

Bostick-Smith faces charges of using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct, unlawful dissemination of an intimate image, encouraging child sexual abuse, online sexual corruption of a child, third-degree rape and third-degree sexual abuse. He remains jailed on $500,000 bail, jail records show. It’s unclear if he’s hired an attorney.

North Carolina man charged with sexual child abuse
A Thomasville man has been charged with sexually assaulting a child, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

Everett Guyn Haynes, 29, of 1600 Kanoy Road, Lot 13, Thomasville, was charged with indecent liberties with a child.

The Sheriff’s Office said that on July 20, the grandmother of a hearing impaired, 8-year-old boy reported that her grandson was sexually abused by Haynes. The alleged assault occurred on June 20, when the child and his mother were staying with Haynes.

The Sheriff’s Office said the child went to a forensic interview at the Dragonfly House where he alleged that Haynes committed assault by rubbing him inappropriately. After an investigation, Haynes was arrested and charged.

Haynes is being held under a $25,000 secured bond. His court date is Sept. 25.

Oregon man jailed for child sex abuse

MILTON-FREEWATER, Oregon – After a thorough investigation, police have arrested a Milton-Freewater man on two counts of first-degree sex abuse, a Measure 11 offense. Milton-Freewater Police Chief Doug Boedigheimer tells KUMA News that the investigation into Cruz Gutierrez-Castillo, 49, began on June 7. He was taken into custody Wednesday.

“On June 7, an adult reported to the Milton-Freewater Police Department that two juveniles, known to the adult, had been possibly sexually abused by Gutierrez-Castillo,” Boedigheimer wrote in a prepared statement. “After an investigation by Milton-Freewater PD’s detective, the case was submitted to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The chief says that last month, the case was presented to a Umatilla County grand jury, which returned true bill indictments on each of the charges. Gutierrez-Castillo was arrested without incident and lodged at the Umatilla County Jail. The arrest took place at Southeast Columbia and Southeast Third Street in Milton-Freewater.

The suspect is being held on $1 million bail. Each charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of six years and three months if he is judged to be guilty.

Ex-camp counselor admits sexually abusing boy; says another counselor video-recorded the acts

A former counselor at a New York day camp made some gruesome admissions in court Thursday, according to Newsday.

He told a judge that he tied up a then-9-year-old boy to a bed and sexually abused him while another counselor video-recorded it.

David Greenberg, (right) 37, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual act and possessing a sexual performance by a child. He will be sentenced in October to 25 years in prison.

Also sentenced was Greenberg’s friend and co-counselor Keith Meyn (left). He will serve 15 years in prison for use of a child in a sexual performance.

Assistant District Attorney John Cortes called their acts “shocking and horrific.”

Greenberg is already serving 25 to 35 years in North Carolina, where he had committed sex and child pornography crimes involving others as well, Cortes told Newsday.

At the camp, he said he took sexually explicit photographs of the boys and kept the pictures on a computer.

He also admitted having sex with Meyn while watching a video of underage boys engaged in sexual activity. Greenberg initially balked at admitting that until Cortes said he would “prefer not to have to play the video” they used in open court, but would if he had to.

Another time, Greenberg said he and Meyn gave underage boys alcohol in a vehicle, and then recorded them exposing themselves.

Greenberg said the boy he abused was a family friend and sometimes he would baby-sit him. From the time the boy was 8 to 11 years old, Greenberg engaged in what Cortes called “chronic sexual abuse of the child,” sometimes in front of Meyn.

Meyn declined to speak when he was sentenced.

His attorney, Donald Mates Jr. of Hauppauge, said he planned to appeal the sentence as “unduly harsh for his minimal involvement in what is a horrific act.”

Another Kenwal counselor, Jay Marcello, 25, of Wantagh, has charges pending of touching campers inappropriately and disseminating indecent material to them.
